Introduction =========================================================== My usual spiel before we get to the meet of the FAQ: ----------------------------------------------------------- 1-1. Introduction to Gundam: ----------------------------------------------------------- Before Gundam, Yoshiyuki Tomino was known for super robot mecha series, which usually included silly looking robots that were "invincible" and had pilots that screamed out the names of their attacks. In 1979, however, Tomino strayed away from the usual type of mecha series in Japan and began to work on "Kidou Senshi Gundam" (aka Mobile Suit Gundam). This was the first of what would become known as "real robot" series. Gundam portrayed the dramatic effects of war. This was much more serious than the usual mecha series. The point of the series didn't lie in the mecha labeled "Mobile Suits", but lied within the plot and the characters. After Mobile Suit Gundam's first run, it didn't do very well. However, with reruns and the entire series being retooled into a movie trilogy, more and more fans began to watch, and soon, the Gundam fandom boomed into one of the largest known. Gundam spawned countless sequels, spinoffs, side stories, mangas, movies, novels, video games, and novelties. Gundam is often considered the "Star Trek of Japan". ----------------------------------------------------------- 1-2. Introduction to SD G Generation DS: ----------------------------------------------------------- What exactly is SD Gundam? "SD" stands for "Super Deformed", which are basically "chibi" (shrunk and/or deformed) versions of our favorite Mobile Suits, battleships, and characters. SD G Gen Advance is a game coming from a long line of G Generation games that started out on the SNES and evolved into much more complex strategy games on the PSX, Wonderswan Color, and PS2. DS is the first G Generation game for the (you guessed it!) Nintendo DS! DS includes many series, movies, and sidestories. Where Advance centered mostly around a distorted One Year War, DS moves more into the Zeta timeline, but does not stick directly to it. It takes a lot from otherseries and pieces it together. This game either takes the plot, characters, mecha, other elements, or a mix of all of the above from the following series. After being absent from writing FAQs since SD G Generation Advance, i've decided to do the follow up to the game G GENERATION DEE-ESS! This game plays similar to its preceding pocket G Generation games but has some changes here and there. ----------------------------------------------------------- 1-4. Glossary: ----------------------------------------------------------- This is a list of terms not only good for the game, but for your growing knowledge of Gundam as well: Ace: The best of the best of pilots. You'll be doing battle with various aces during the game. Examples: Johnny Ridden, Cima Garahau, Zechs Merquise Artificial Newtype: A person who has gone under experimentation that allows them to become Newtypes. This is very risky, as the person can lose their memories and suffer from horrible after-effects. Beam Coat: A special coating that can be placed on a Mobile Suit that will minimize the damage caused by all beam attacks. Bits: A type of weapon that can only be controlled via psycommu system by a Newtype pilot. A "bit" is a drone that can fly separately and usually carries a beam cannon of its own. The Elemth is armed with these. Coordinator: Artificially strengthened humans who were strengthened from birth. Coordinators have the potential to be much better than normal humans in terms of intelligence, atheletics, aesthetics, art, reflexes, and other areas. Examples: Kira Yamato, Azlan Zara Cyber-Newtype: See "Artificial Newtype". DRAGOON: Disconnected Rapid Armament Overlook Operation Network. These are basically much funnels except from the CE era. Extended Human: These are experimented human beings that use all sorts of advancements on their bodies that allow them to perform on much better levels in combat and other areas. The experimentation is very dangerous. Funnels: The next level of bits. Though they don't carry their own generators or fuel tanks, causing them to be forced to return to its "mother" to refuel/recharge, they are smaller, faster, and are more powerful. Some Mobile Suits armed with these are the Geara Doga, the Sazabi, and the Qubley Mark II. Fin Funnels: Larger, stronger, and advanced versions of funnels. The Nu Gundam is armed with these. "Grunt": A grunt suit is usually one of the weaker, mass production suits. Gundam: The "Gundam" is the final Earth Federation prototype that is powerful when it comes to strength, speed, maneuverability, and defense. The Gundam prototype is the top of the line and is the first Mobile Suit to use beam weaponry. Later on in the Universal Century timeline, many different types of Gundam upgrades are created, as any Mobile Suit labeled as a Gundam is a Mobile Suit with some of the most superior technology. Gundarium: A refined version of the Lunar Titanium used on the first Gundam. This type of alloy is applied to almost all Mobile Suits after 085. Gundanium: A very strong and resilient, plasma resistant alloy that was applied to the Gundams created by the five scientists from the After Colony timeline. Hyper Mode: A special mode that certain Mobile Fighters can go into. In G Generation DS, Domon in God Gundam can go into Hyper Mode. I-Field: An I-Field is a special force field that can be carried by a Mobile Weapon that nullifies incoming beam attacks. Since I-Field generators are large and use a lot of energy, it's usually only used by Mobile Armors. In the game, an I-Field nullifies incoming beam attacks from all Mobile Suits. However, large beam attacks from battleships and Mobile Suits are only weakened to an extent. Mass Production: A mass production suit is usually a suit that is created in very large quantities for entire fleets. An example is the Zaku or the GM. They're usually cheap and easy to manufacture. However, in comparison to up and coming suits, they're fairly weak. Microwave System: A system on the moon that allows the redirection of microwave energy to be used as a weapon. This is what allows the Satellite Cannon to work. Minovsky Craft: A system derived from the Minovsky Particle that allows a unit to fly. This is available in most battleships and carriers, but does not get included into Mobile Suits in the UC era until after about UC 104. Minovsky Particles: A new particle formed by the famous Side 3 scientist Professor Minovsky. This Minovsky Particle allows for advanced radio jamming and the birth of beam weaponry. Mobile Armor: After the creation of Mobile Suits, Mobile Armors began to be developed. Mobile Armors are large and not humanoid and usually carry many heavy weapons. Mobile Armors usually carry heavy generators, allowing them to use their powerful weapons and fly at fast speeds. Different Mobile Armors have different capabilities and uses. MA: Acronym for "Mobile Armor". Mobile Suit: A Mobile Suit is a humanoid mecha weapon used to fight wars during this era. They're armed with a variety of weapons and different Mobile Suits have different capabilities and uses. MS: Acronym for "Mobile Suit". Moonlight Butterfly: The Turn A Gundam and Turn X have nanomachines that contain it's ability to use the Moonlight Butterfly. Nanomachines: Micro-mechanical cells that can work for different purposes. Newtype: A human who over time developed psychic powers from living in space. It's the next stage of human evolution. A Newtype's enhanced senses and sensitivity make them excellent pilots. Newtypes also have enhanced empathy and telepathy in which they can understands others better and can talk to people over long distances. Only Newtypes can use Newtype weapons, such as funnels. Examples: Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, Camille Bidan Phase Shift Armor: Certain MS are armored with the Phase Shift armor from Gundam SEED. Phase Shift allows the MS to ignore all damage from non-beam attacks. Psyco-Frame: A new system developed to assist the psycommu system. The Psyco-Frame uses microscopic psycommu chips to surround the cockpit, allowing the enhancing of the Newtype's abilities once in it and even makes the Mobile Suit feel lighter. Psycommu System: A system initially developed by the Zeon Duchy that allows a Newtype to use his/her brainwaves to assist in controlling the machine they are in and its weapons. Satellite System: See "Microwave System". SEED Mode: A "hyper mode" which increases all abilities. It is unknown what truly stimulates this, but it is known that it sends a person beyond his/her natural potential abilities. Transform: A new ability available to certain Mobile Suits. With the technology of Mobile Armors well known now and the need for more high-quality level Mobile Weapons, certain Mobile Suits have the ability to transform into a Mobile Armor mode. Transformable Mobile Suits: Mobile Suits that can transform into a Mobile Armor mode. Trans Phase Armor: Like Phase Shift Armor, this allows the negation of any damage from physical attacks. However, this only activates upon impact of the blow rather than always being on, allowing energy to be saved. VSBR: Variable Speed Beam Rifle. A new, experimental beam rifle that can fire either small, but fast beam shots or slow, large beam shots. =========================================================== 2. Game Play =========================================================== ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-1. Controls: ----------------------------------------------------------- Being on the Nintendo DS, G Gen DS makes use of both screens. These are the functions you will need to be appear of when playing: D-Pad: Move Cursor A: Select a unit/Select menu/Bring up menu (During Sessions), Select a menu/option (on menus) B: Cancel Selection L: View extra information (When highlighting an MS during missions) R: Scroll through units Start: Bring up menu (During Sessions) ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-2. Using the Second/Touch Screen: ----------------------------------------------------------- The touch screen has many advantages in this game and allows gameplay to become much easier. Title Menu: -The Title Menu will be on the bottom screen. Use it to navigate the various options. During Sessions: -During combat, the second screen will show you the map as well as the amount of battleship carriers and squads on the field when you are not highlighting a unit on the top screen. It will inform you on what turn you are on and what stage youare on on the top bar. -When you highlight a unit/squad, the information about the Mobile Suits in that squad and their pilots will be displayed. Touch a unit on the touch screen to see the statistics of that Mobile Suit and pilot. Backstage: -Highlight a unit or a character in any of the menus to see their statistics on the second screen. Press R on certain menus where you can view units to view the MS Evolution Chart. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-3. Title Menu ----------------------------------------------------------- After hitting start on the title menu, you will be given three options. These are: New Game Load Data Extra Note: Extra Mode cannot be accessed until you have completed the game once. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-3a. New Game ----------------------------------------------------------- Initially, only New Game and Return are your options here. Once you have completed the game once, you will be able to access Special Mode. New Game: You can start a new Story Mode game here. Special Mode: Special Mode is opened up when you've completed the story mode once. This is a much more challenging version of the story mode. Return: Return to the Title Menu. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-3b. Load Data ----------------------------------------------------------- You can load data from any of the three saves that you may have saved from here. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-3c. Extra ----------------------------------------------------------- Extra Mode cannot be accessed unless you have completed the game at least once. This is basically a gallery and a glossary for the game all in one. Encyclopedia: This is an encyclopedia for the characters and units in the game. There are two options in this menu. -Character: View the characters you've seen/met in the game and read information about them. -Unit: View the units you've encountered during the game. EV Scenes: Here you can view different event scenes and movies that are in the game. The list of events that you have unlocked and can watch will appear on the top screen. More events are unlocked as you play through the game. Sounds: There are three options in this menu: -BGM: Here you can listen to various background music that is played in the game. -SE: Here you can listen to various sound effects used in the game. -Return: Return to the Extras menu. Return: Return to the Title Menu. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-4. Backstage Menu: ----------------------------------------------------------- There are four main options on the Backstage Menu. The Backstage Menu is the menu you are given inbetween sessions. This section will explain all of them and what you can do in all of them: Operation Organize MS Develop SYstem ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-4a: Operation ----------------------------------------------------------- The four options in this menu are: Briefing: This is a basic rundown by the characters of what the plan is for the next mission. Map: View the map of the next session before you begin the mission. Free Battle : Before you go into a main mission, you can come here to do a mission against AI controlled units. You can find and capture Mobile Suits here or just defeat them for some welcome experience. Proceed: This allows you to proceed into the next mission. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-4b: Organize ----------------------------------------------------------- The three options in this menu are: Units: You can organize the Mobile Suits you would like to sortie in battle here. You may take your pilots, put them in a Mobile Suit, and then put them in a battleship. Statistics: There are three options in this menu: -Characters: You may view characters and their stats. Highlight a character to see their basic stats on the bottom screen as well as ID Commands. Click on the character for more in-depth information about the character's ID Commands and abilities to appear on both screens. -Mecha: You may view your Mobile Weapons and their stats. Their attacks and special abilities will be shown on the bottom screen. -Parts: You may view your parts and descriptions of them. Pre-Set: This allows you to see if any Mobile Suits and pilots are already preset to appear on the next session, thus, not allowing you to put them on one of your battleships at the present moment. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-4c: MS Develop ----------------------------------------------------------- There are two options in this menu: : This menu has six options in it. These will help you complete various progressions with your hangar of Mobile Suits. -Purchase: You may buy Mobile Suits here. Highlight a Mobile Suit and its cost and basic information will appear on the top screen while its attack list and special abilities will appear on the bottom screen. What you can purchase will vary at what point you are it in the game and what route you are on. Highlight a Mobile Suit and its cost and basic information will appear on the top screen while its attack list -Repair: Any Mobile Suits you had that were destroyed in battle can be repaired here. Highlight a Mobile Suit and its cost and basic information will appear on the top screen while its attack list -Parts Upgrade: Here you can combine Mobile Suits with parts to transform them into new Mobile Suits. Click "R" on the highlghted Mobile Suit to see where it appears on the MS Development chart. Click on a Mobile Suit to see what parts can be used to upgrade that Mobile Suit. Click "R" while highlighting a prospective upgrade to see where that Mobile Suit appears on the chart. -Money Upgrade: You can use money to help upgrade your current Mobile Suits into much fiercer ones. Initially, a Mobile Suit can only be upgraded once, but after a certain stage, you may upgrade them a second time. -Scrap: Here you can scrap Mobile Suits into parts. Chart: This menu shows Mobile Suit Development/Evolution chart. The chart will appear on the bottom screen. On the top screen will be various options that will allow you to travel to that part of the menu. If you click on a certain option, it will bring you to that part of the chart. These are the chart's options: Zeon Zaku Series AE GP Series Zeon Dom Series AEUG Series Zeon Gelgoog Series Zeon Mobile Armor Series Zeon Psycommu Series Neo Zeon Gaza Series Titans Series Jupitoris Series Psyco Gundam Series Taurus Series Federation GM Series ZAFT Series Federation Gundam Series ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-4d: System ----------------------------------------------------------- There are three options in this menu: Save: You may save your data. Load: You may load saved data. Options: You can select various options that will effect your gameplay. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-5. Mission Menu: ----------------------------------------------------------- This is the menu you can bring up during a session by hitting the Start Button anywhere on the map: End Your Turn: If you've done all you can for your turn, go here to end your turn and initiate the opponent's turn. Save: You may save your game here. Load: You may load saved data here. Options: You may toggle certain options and other things here. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-6. Battle Menu: ----------------------------------------------------------- During a session on the map, once you have selected a unit, you will be given a variety of choices on what to do. These are the standard choices: Move: This option allows you to move a Mobile Suit or battleship across the map. All units can move except for the Guard units. Each unit has a different movement rating. For example, the Nu Gundam can move much farther than something like the GM. If you have your MS in a squad, you may move the entire squad forward or you may seperate a unit from the squad and have that unit seperate from the squad and go forward on its own. Attack: Like the name implies, this allows you to attack your enemy. Each unit has one to four different attacks, each varying in statistics. Map: You can choose map attacks here. These attacks take place on the map as the name implies. ID: Here you can use your pilots' ID Spells/Commands. Each pilots' spells are exclusive to them. These commands have various effects on that pilots' stats and abilities for that turn. End Turn: This will finalize and end that unit's turn. This comes up after you have moved a certain unit and is always the last choice on the menu. Units/squads that have ended their turn will have an "E" mark on them. These are extra choices that will appear depending upon certain circumstances: Deploy: This option may only be used by carriers such as the Argama or Archangel. This option allows you to deploy Mobile Suits from the carrier and onto the map. Transform: G Generation DS takes a different turn when it comes to transforming. From playing the game awhile you'll notice that no transformable suits can transform at all and instead their transformations are integrated to occur when they use a certain attack. This option actually allows you remove the armor off of units with extra armor. For example, if you select the Gundam Alex Full Armor and allow it to seperate from its armor, it will become the Gundam Alex. There is, however, actually ONE Mobile Suit that transform. This is the Impulse Gundam, which can change its Silhouettes to become Force, Blast, or Sword Impulse. Capture: This option allows you to capture an enemy MS. Note that carriers don't have the capture ability. In order to capture an enemy MS, at least three of your units must be surrounding the enemy MS, which will give your units the capture option. When selecting this option, you will be given a percentage on what percent chance you have of capturing the enemy MS/MA. Follow these guidelines in order to increase your chances of capturing the enemy MS: -Lower the enemy MS' HP as much as possible without destroying it. -Surround the MS you wish to capture as much as possible. -Make sure that the MS you wish to capture is not in a squad. You may not capture enemy MS within a squad. -The higher level you are compared to the pilot of the unit you are trying to capture, the better the chances. *Note that there are certain MS/MA that cannot be captured during certain sessions. Communicate: This allows your pilot to "communicate" with a certain friendly/enemy/neutral unit. This command will only come up at certain points with certain pilots and can trigger different events as well as allow you to convince various pilots to join your fleet. Stats: See the stastics of the current Mobile Suits within that squad. If you select this on a battleship, you can see the stats of the Mobile Suits within the carrier as well. ----------------------------------------------------------- 2-7. Attack Menu: ----------------------------------------------------------- This is the menu that comes up once you have entered a battle sequence. This happens when you attack or are attacked by the opponent. These are your following options: Attack: You will be allowed to choose weapons to use against the enemy and ID Commands to use if you'd like. Ranged Auto Attack: This allows the computer to choose the most basic course of action for you in terms of ranged attacking. For example, if you have a squad of Zaku IIFs, by selecting this, they will all use their Zaku Machinegun attack. This option is not reccomended. Melee Auto Attack: This allows the computer to choose the most basic course of action for you in terms of melee attacking. For exmaple, if you have a squad of Zaku IIFs, by selecting this, they will all use their Heat Hawk attack. This option is not reccomended. Evade: You can choose to make an attempt to evade the enemy's attack. If an attack hits a unit, if the unit has a shield, they will use it to minimize damage. Special Attack: This is a new feature in G Gen DS. By choosing this, all characters in the squad will use up all of their SP to perform a special attack on the enemy of powerful proportions. Use this wisely. When you are attacked by a map attack (an attack that covers the map), you will be given two options. The first is to disperse the squad that is being attacked. If you choose this, the squad will split up in different directions. If on the map, this squad is surrounded by other units and is unable to move, they are trapped in that position, Large sized units and Carriers cannot select this option. The seconde option is to not disperse and remain in place and endure the attack. =========================================================== 3. Mobile Suit/Carrier and Pilot List =========================================================== Note: The Mobile Suit and Carrier lists are ONLY lists of units that are playable. Weapons that are not playable are not listed here. ----------------------------------------------------------- 3-1.
