E3 2008 - Other Companies: Booth Tours and Updates

E3 2008 - Bethesda: Booth Tours and Updates

We had a chance to sit down for a full thirty minutes with Fallout 3, and we're pretty excited about Bethesda Softworks' latest project. The title seems to fuse the best elements of both the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series into one epic title. The massive, futuristic wasteland that is the game's setting is rife with irreverent humor, combat challenges, and interesting puzzles. The game already controls quite nicely, and the ability to toggle the "turn-based" combat function on and off is intriguing as well as functional. All in all, it looks like Fallout 3 will be a cinematic RPG that will give players hundreds of hours of fun.

E3 2008 - Conspiracy: Booth Tours and Updates

Conspiracy Entertainment also found a place at E3 2008. Unfortunately, they only had one game to show this time around, but it was still fun to spend some time with them and check out Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge, which will be on store shelves at the end of the month. This game features 26 events from the olympics and allows players to try their luck in the different competitions. It will be out for Xbox 360, PS2, and Wii - this last one is quite a workout! The controls involve somewhat realistic motions proper for each of the challenges. There's a tool where you can design and customize your characters, as well as a career mode where you'll develop your character's skills. Achievements and stats will keep track of your records.

E3 2008 - Crave Entertainment: Booth Tours and Updates

Sharing the showcase room with Conspiracy and Natsume, Crave Entertainment had four games to show us. First, we spent sometime with PBR: Out of the Chute (Professional Bullriding). This game will be out for Wii and PS2 in mid October, and it was surprisingly fun. You can play as the rider or the bull, and the PBR rules apply. It includes PBR professionals, as well as well-known bulls. The second title was King of Clubs: Mini-Golf. This Wii game lets players test their skills in five different mini-putt courses with 96 wholes. Obstacles and challenges make the gameplay exciting, and controls are easy enough for those who play golf on WiiSports. You can pick between different putters and clubs and go to the pro shop to buy equipment. It'll be out in August. We also checked out a kids' strategy game called Defending the Penguin. It's an RTS for Wii where players take on the role of a penguin (Little Blue) who needs to defends its town from dangerous folks who want to steal all their fish. Defense towers with different functions have to be placed strategically in order to succeed. Some of them freeze the enemies, others shoot at them, etc.

E3 2008 - Eidos Interactive: Booth Tours and Updates

How could you go to E3 and not check out the upcoming Tomb Raider game? We were actually quite excited to get some time at the Eidos Interactive showcase room and check out the game with some of the developers. The game won't come out until 2009, so it's still in early stages of development. However, we got a nice glimpse at one of the levels, where Lara Croft makes her way into an underwater chamber by solving a simple puzzle involving gears hidden in the area. She looks really good, and so does the game, though it's nowhere near completion. Stay posted, as we'll have an updated preview of the title pretty soon!

E3 2008 - Natsume: Booth Tours and Updates

Natsume didn't have a huge ammounts of games for display, but Graham Markay (Natsume PR in North America) welcomed us into the booth and told us all about the two versions of Harvest Moon that will be launched in August. Natsume is celebrating Harvest Moon's tenth anniversary by putting out two great games: Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility for Wii, and Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness for DS. While the portable game is full of customization options, new crops, objects, and interesting gameplay features, the Wii title focuses more on having an exciting and more fast-paced gameplay, new art and characters, and fun minigames like a target-shooting gallery, frog jumping, mole bashing, horse racing, bug catching, etc. They're both non-linear adventures that take place within an island, and players are welcome to explore every nook and cranny and take their experience as far as they want. There are years worth of gameplay in each of the games! Natsume was also showing Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon for DS (Sep. 2008), but we didn't have enough time to check that one out. Next time, I guess!
