Shifting gears, EA SPORTS made an impressive showing. Fight Night Round 4 is bringing height and reach modifiers as well as an on-the-fly physics engine that will revolutionize boxing titles, the coalescing of all EA SPORTS games' websites onto one hub site is something EA should have done since the outset. Additions to the online presence, such as PGA Tour Online and NCAA 10 Team Builder, promise to suck hours away from our lives. Additionally, EA SPORTS honcho, Peter Moore, announced that EA MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is coming in 2010.
Not surprisingly, EA SPORTS Active has already sold through 600,000 thousand units in its first two weeks at retail. Consequently, an expansion to the title is slated for holiday 2009. Rounding things out for the interactive sporting juggernaut was Grand Slam Tennis, which features Wii MotionPlus compatibility. Though the game didn't seem to control as well as we would have liked to have seen, watching tennis great Pete Samprass get his racket handed to him by the game's developer was a good bit of fun - the smiles beaming from Samprass were priceless.
Notable games also coming to EA in future include Pandemic's The Saboteur, Double Fine's Brütal Legend, Realtime Worlds' APB, and Crytek's Crysis 2. The Saboteur has been completely overhauled since going to EA, and is starting to look like the game the developers always wanted to build. Brütal Legend is likely going to be a niche game, as are most of creator Tim Schafer's excellent yet quirky titles. Regardless, the humor and funky design was mesmerizing to the crowd at hand. All Points Bulletin is a persistent world online shooter where players can choose to be either Criminals or Enforcers in a battle for dominance and turf. Other than the two-sided battle and the impressive character generator, little else is known about the title. Finally, Crytek announced the development of Crysis 2 for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. This is going to be possible because of the creation of the CRYengine 3 multiplatform development tool. Unfortunately, no real details were offered about the game other than it was going to look amazing… but we already knew that.
