Best Puzzle / Brain Game of 2007 - CCC Cody Awards

Puzzle games are usually quite addictive. Players have to use their concentration and reflexes to solve puzzles successfully and achieve new records.

The Nominees:

METEOS DISNEY MAGIC (DS)
Developer: Q Entertainment
Publisher: Disney Interactive Studios
CCC Cody Award Nominee Why would Disney remake an already existing game? Because they made the game even more amusing and perfected. Many of your favorite Disney characters are here and the gameplay trumps standard Meteos. This version of Meteos added two main improvements: you will hold the DS vertically, so the vertical scenario fits nicely into the screen; everything looks bigger and, therefore, more controllable. Also, you'll be able to move pieces horizontally as well as vertically, which makes the game a little easier and more enjoyable. Meteos: Disney Magic was a fresh take on a modern puzzle classic.
LUMINES II (PSP)
Developer: Q Entertainment
Publisher: Buena Vista Games
CCC Cody Award Nominee Lumines II expanded upon the features of the original hit for the PSP. The pre-existing, core gameplay was left untouched, which isn't a bad thing since it's such a great puzzle game. But the developers couldn't leave well enough alone, there's more to the Lumines II's gameplay than just clearing out the blocks from the bin. A set of fresh elements such as new tunes, graphics, and modes updated the title nicely. A very helpful tutorial mode was also added that covers all the basics so that even newbies could get involved. Lumines II has a futuristic, high-tech look that combines frantic puzzle action with a heavy musical emphasis that we just can't resist. This is definitely one of the best puzzle titles of the year.
PUZZLE QUEST: CHALLENGE OF THE WARLORDS (DS)
Developer: Playable Productions
Publisher: D3
CCC Cody Award Nominee

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is a multi-platform puzzler that took gamers by surprise. The eclectic blend of RPG elements along with Bejeweled-like puzzle gameplay proved to be awesome! This puzzle game was able to fuse the two genres in such a way that it actually enhanced the quality of the individual parts. Slick graphics, good sound, and a neat little story all came together to form gaming nirvana. No matter which platform you play the game on, you are sure to enjoy the innovative gameplay.

PICROSS DS (DS)
Developer: Juniper Multimedia
Publisher: Nintendo
CCC Cody Award Nominee With a gaming concept that's a partial cross between a crossword puzzle, a game of Mine Sweeper, and Sudoku, Picross is an addictive addition to the DS. With 300 puzzles that run the gamut in terms of difficult, it certainly offers a vast amount of unique puzzle gameplay for a budget price. Players must fill in blocks on a grid using a numbering system. Completing the grid properly will reveal one of many cute and colorful pictures. Players can also make their own using the touch screen and a built-in editing program. Deep and engaging gameplay belies the game's basic presentation. Puzzle fanatics rejoice!
BIG BRAIN ACADEMY: Wii DEGREE (Wii)
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo
CCC Cody Award Nominee How big is your brain? With all of the brain games, it makes you wonder if everyone is getting smarter or if they are just getting a higher score on a game, maybe both. Big Brain Academy brings to the Wii a way to increase your knowledge from the comfort of your living room with out having to squint. Having the 'my brain is bigger than yours' type game where you can challenge your friends was a great thing to breed more animosity amongst Wii players in the same house. How smart you are is the question for anyone wanting to check out their mentality on the Wii with Big Brain Academy.
