Best RTS Game of 2007 - CCC Cody Awards

Real Time Strategy games are made for those who like to think and are excellent at multitasking. Players will be tasked with managing everything at the same time, from little spaceships to entire civilizations!

The Nominees:

AGE OF EMPIRES III: THE ASIAN DYNASTIES (PC)
Developer: Big Huge Game
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
CCC Cody Award Nominee This excellent second expansion for AoE III brings 15 new missions and a swarm of new units to the table. Players can take the reins of the Japanese, Chinese or Indian civilizations and wage war across the mountains, rivers, and plains of the Far East. Each of the three new playable civilizations has its own single player campaign in addition to its own strengths and weakness. Asian Dynasties also marks the return of Wonders which make it possible to quickly turn the tide of battle in your favor when all seems lost. New online and local multi-player maps let you pit the Asian civilizations against the western world in battle with civilizations from the core game. It's a robust expansion which breathes new life into the game.
COMPANY OF HEROES: OPPOSING FRONTS (PC)
Developer: Relic
Publisher: THQ
CCC Cody Award Nominee Relic and THQ pushed the boundaries of how we play WWII real time strategy games with the release of the original Company of Heroes, which made its debut back in 2006. Impressive A.I., destructive environments, and excellent micromanagement options all made for an incredible experience. Opposing Fronts continues that war with the introduction of two advanced units: British and Panzer. Each one brings a totally unique play style to the table, with the Panzer being an incredibly quick and mobile squadron, while the British prefer to lay back and stack on the defense. The same great lobby menus and steady framerate are present with Opposing Fronts, making finding and playing online matches better than ever before. So if you're looking for a strategy title this side of Command of Conquer, then Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts should be one of the first on your list.
COMMAND AND CONQUER 3: TIBERIUM WARS (X360, PC)
Developer: EA Los Angeles
Publisher: Electronic Arts
CCC Cody Award Nominee Command and Conquer has been immensely popular ever since it was first conceived in 1995, and the newest entry in the popular series makes it easy to see why. The game features a great story, which is well-acted out with some fantastic cutscenes and voice actors who are seriously about what they're doing. The strategy gameplay is as good and addictive as ever, with the nice touch that the game is a lot easier to pick up for new players than any other game in the series. There's also some very intense, fun multiplayer, which will give you even more excuse to spend some time with this fantastic game.
SUPREME COMMANDER (PC)
Developer: Gas Powered Games
Publisher: THQ
CCC Cody Award Nominee Supreme Commander, at first glance, may seem to be a rather typical futuristic RTS PC title. However, spend some time with it, and you'll realize that it's far more than just that. It's set far in the future when three factions of human beings are vying for supremacy. There are tons of different unit types, and the number of units on a single map can be absolutely thanks to an adjustable unit cap. Units range from infantry units to tanks to powerful missile silos, and each faction is very distinct, ensuring tons of replay value. If you're an RTS gamer or just enjoy playing PC games, Supreme Commander is a great game for you.
WORLD IN CONFLICT (PC)
Developer: Massive Entertainment
Publisher: Sierra Entertainment
CCC Cody Award Nominee World in Conflict surprised everybody this year with fantastic visuals, a unique plot, and a quality take on the RTS genre. The game features plenty of customization for veterans of the genre, but makes itself accessible enough so that casuals can jump right into the fray, though not without a little difficulty. Hey, what's the point of playing games if they're all a cakewalk? Also, what's the point of playing a war game if it doesn't contain any destruction? Well, World in Conflict doesn't fail to deliver on that issue either. Air strikes, grenades, tanks, ship cannons, you want explosions? Then look no further than what could possibly be the best strategy game of 2007.
