Sure, Modern Warfare may have sold more copies, but Battlefield 3 blew our minds with its insanely detailed visuals, more realistic physics, and absolutely gigantic multiplayer maps. And did we mention the thing about piloting jets?
In a year completely packed with top-notch shooters, Battlefield managed to push ahead of the competition and deliver something truly brilliant on a scale we wouldn't have even imagined before. Put your hands together for 2011's best shooter.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Of course, we aren't going to ignore the elephant in the room here. Modern Warfare 3 brought us everything we expected it to—an over-the-top campaign, extremely smooth gunplay, a hefty multiplayer suite, and a new perspective on killstreaks. (They're Strike Packages, now.) What it all boils down to, though, is that it's a ton of fun.
