It's a pack-in game and everyone gets it (in North America
at least), but is it any good? Would you spent $50 on it if
it wasn't free? That's the question. Our answer is an enthusiastic
"Most of us at CCC probably would buy it, at least after
renting it for a few days to see if it was okay!" How's
that for honesty? Hardcore gamers won't look beyond the gimmicky
nature of the controls, but Nintendo is definitely onto something.
Wii Sports is darn addicting and fun!

We didn't spend close to $300 just to play a virtual game
of hide-&-seek... or did we? Konami's Elebits takes full
advantage of the motion-sensing Wii-mote controls and is quite
charming to play. Alone, that is. Elebits offers a multiplayer
game where 4 people compete for Elebits on one screen but
it's a broken mess. If you can overlook that aspect, Elebits
is worthy of investigation.

Link and Midna are going to need all the fairy luck they can
get their grubby little hands on if they want to walk away with
the Wii game of the year. Just look at that Excite Truck below,
acting all cool and macho. It thinks its so big! We bet Link
could totally take on those big, scary monster trucks and win!
Henshin a go-go, baby! Whoa... totally wrong battlecry there.
Sorry. |

Get into a monster truck and race it down roads and paths
in an attempt to keep it from smashing into trees or lakes,
while using special powerups to morph the landscape and cause
hills too appear out of nowhere - just like in real life!
Once you get your mind wrapped around the bizarre but engaging
control scheme (you tilt the Wii-mote on its side and steer)
you'll keep coming back for more, ummm...Excitetruckment!

The hero in this game must have had one of those embarrassing
tough guy moments where someone said to him "Looks like
you brought a knife to a gunfight, pardner" because now
he carries both just in case. Red Steel was an ambitious shooter/slasher
built exclusively around the Wii's control scheme - and it succeeded.
Red Steel may have had some awkward moments, but last time we
checked fun still wasn't against the law. |
