July 28, 2008 - This year's Comic-Con was quite amazing and featured lots of exciting announcements, celebrities, and of course, comics! Here's a run-down of everything game-related that went down at Comic-Con 08!
Resident Evil: Degeneration
Resident Evil: Degeneration is a new feature length CG title that takes place seven years after the Raccoon City incident. It features Leon and Claire as the main characters and has a good deal of the game's trademark zombie horror. This title should be released sometime later this year, both in the US and Japan, and should give fans something to look forward to while waiting for the newly-delayed Resident Evil 5.
During the Max Payne movie panel, director John Moore and stars Mark Wahlberg and Ludacris were on hand to discuss the new movie as well as show a few clips and a new trailer. Moore also shared his sentiments on game-to-movie adaptations, saying that he takes this project very seriously and seeks to honor the source material rather than just interpret it.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner made an appearance at the Comic-Con to discuss the new Prince of Persia movie starring Jake Gylenhaal that is currently in development. Mechner, who is also writing the script for the movie, confirmed that the film will be based on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but won't follow the game's storyline exactly. He also said he does not anticipate sequels based on The Two Thrones or Warrior Within because they were a real departure from the Sands of Time title. He also revealed the prince will be named Dastan in the movie because that is the Persian name meaning "trickster."
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The long awaited X-Men spin-off was finally revealed at the 20th Century Fox movie presentation. Star Hugh Jackman was able to make a surprise appearance on stage and told eager fans the movie had just wrapped and then proceeded to show off some pretty cool exclusive footage from the movie including a few shots of the character debut of fan-favorite Gambit. The movie is slated for release on May 1st of next year and will be a prequel to the X-Men trilogy.
