Godzilla: Unleashed Developer Interview

Godzilla: Unleashed Developer Interview

September 2007 - Cheat Code Central had the opportunity to interview the developer of the upcoming console game Godzilla: Unleashed. Don't miss what they had to say and find out more information about the title.

GUD: Godzilla: Unleashed Developer
CCC: Cheat Code Central

CCC: Are there any notable differences between the PS2 version and the Wii version?

GUD: The biggest differences are:
(1) The Wii version has more monsters, and each version has some exclusive monsters.
(2) Controls are different (obviously).

CCC: How are you planning to implement the Wii motion sensing controls?

GUD: The game will be played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Players will have 5 primary actions at their disposal - Charge weapons, Punch, Kick, Rush, and Fierce Attack. The Wii Remote handles attacks, and the Nunchuk handles movement, jumping, and so forth. Because of the new controller scheme, monsters can now execute any or all of their primary actions independently - which means that you can charge while jumping in the air - fire your weapon during attacks, and move freely at all times.

Moving the Wii Remote in different directions will affect how your monster attacks as well. For example, we have an uppercut move we've been working on that really makes you feel like you're throwing the punch yourself, but as Godzilla. We're always tweaking the controls to make sure that they're not only immersive and fun to perform, but easy to pull off and not at all frustrating.

CCC: What is the storyline behind the game?

GUD: The plot for Godzilla: Unleashed is pretty unique for a fighting game. One constant that affects the story is the existence of giant alien crystals growing out of the earth. These crystals have brought about cataclysmic changes to the planet, and your monster's faction determines how you will approach dealing with these crystals. Monsters are grouped into 4 factions: Earth Defenders, Mecha, Aliens, and Mutants- each with their own perspective and motivations within the over arcing storyline. Your actions determine how Story Mode plays out. Depending on the choices you make, your story path will change with different encounters, goals, team-ups and Graphic Novel story sequences. Will you be defending the earth or destroying it? Will you be teaming up with other monsters, or trying to take out all the other factions in your quest for dominance?

CCC: How many characters are in the game?

GUD: Godzilla Unleashed features at least 21 of the most destructive and well-known monsters from the Godzilla franchise, plus 2 completely new monsters designed specifically for this game. Keep tuning in to www.Godzilla.com to see new monsters as they're announced!

CCC: What can you tell us about all the different locations for the game?

GUD: The locations of the game will feature nine of Earth's most famous locales, but each has an unexpected twist. Like we mentioned earlier, the crystals have brought about major changes to the planet and each level reflects this. For example, the Australian city of Sydney has been transformed into Arctic tundra. Seattle now has a new feature dominating its skyline along with the Space Needle - a massive, fully-active volcano. Players will be able to add to the destruction in each city, and use the unique features of each environment to their advantage.
