Release: May 2007

Developer: EA Los Angeles
ESRB Rating: Teen
Hotness Factor: 5

In the world of Command and Conquer, there are many stories, ranging from the war between GDI and the Hand of Nod involving precious Tiberium, to the conflict between the USA, China, and the GLA in the Generals series.

The latest installment, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, due for release on the Xbox 360 has been highly anticipated for quite some time now. Well, the time is finally drawing near and excitement is in the air, emphasized by the recent release of the PC version, as this game appears to be everything RTS fans have been expecting.

EA has really pulled out all the stops to bring forth one of the greatest RTS games that fans have ever seen. With the addition of a new alien faction, the cutting edge in-game graphics, the live-action cut scenes, and the wonderful sound effects, I think that veteran C&C fans and curious gamers alike will be very hard-pressed to find anything at fault with Tiberium Wars.

Name of the Game: Sins of a Solar Empire
System: PC
Release: August 2007
Publisher: Stardock
Developer: Ironclad Games
ESRB Rating: Rating Pending
Hotness Factor: 3

From startup developers Ironclad Games, Sins of a Solar Empire seems to present a very complex and exciting style of the RTS genre. Heavily reminiscent of the cherished Homeworld series, undoubtedly a result of the heavy experience of the developers of the company in that particular franchise, Ironclad has gone above and beyond to create a space RTS the likes of which no gamer has yet seen.

Due to hit the shelves in August 2007, Sins of a Solar Empire follows the story of a galactic empire that begins a steady decline into chaos. Your job will be to command multiple fleets in the defense or assault of multiple planets. A new twist added to the game is the fact that several battles can erupt simultaneously in separate locations. Although this sounds pretty complicated, Ironclad seems to have created a pretty streamlined interface which allows you to manage each battle at your discretion.

Overall, I think many fans of the Homeworld series, myself included, will inevitably be drawn to this new and intriguing take on the RTS genre as well as many new gamers that may try it and become hooked to the new dimension that is introduced when one first plays a space-based RTS.
