August 11, 2008 - Handheld gaming has always been a market dominated by one of the three video game giants - Nintendo, although most recently Sony found its own place with the PSP. Also, mobile phone games have grown and become much more popular than they were just a couple of years ago, but the Apple iPhone / iPod Touch and the downloadable apps are definitely going to impact this market more than other mobile games ever did.

Just a couple of weeks after the launch of the iPhone 3G and simultaneous release of app support, the Apple Store is choked-full of interesting applications and tons of games.

A few software publishers like EA, Publisher X, and Pangea Software (amongst others) have seized this new opportunity right away by putting out games that will appeal to both casual and more dedicated gamers. The iPhone hasn't proved to be the perfect portable gaming machine yet, but with time and some innovation, it may revolutionize!

First of all, both the iPhone and iPod Touch have a good size screen, a relatively fast processor, plenty of hard drive space, and excellent touch capabilities. The games we've been able to play on it aren't top-notch just yet, but they definitely prove you can have more than a good time with Apple's slick phone and its iPod cousin.

Let's take a look at some of the games we tried and see what they have to offer. Don't forget there are many more available, but we're just going to mention a few this time, including Publisher X and Pangea's latest additions to the itunes Store, which already have several of their games in the Top 100 list.
