The Fall gaming season is upon us, and we can expect many blockbusters far into the new year. Borderlands 2, Dishonored, and Halo 4 are among the titles fans will be drooling over. But will they live up to expectations? Will a good review persuade you, or a bad review dissuade you?
What do you really want from a game anyway? Being overly familiar with a franchise can be detrimental to your enjoyment of it. You will have certain expectations, often exceeding those of the creation team. They may take it in another direction, incorporating different genres, or changing the main characters. The enjoyment of any video game is a deeply personal experience. You are actually engaged in the act of protecting or murdering imaginary characters; characters you have made a connection with. Are you willing to trust the opinions of a reviewer you have no connection with?
There's an axiom that a reviewer must remain somewhat impartial, not letting his or her emotions enter into the review process. This is extremely difficult when dealing with exciting stimuli such as video games, music, and theatrical productions. This can result in a diagnosis, rather than a review. However, we can't expect to share the same enthusiasms.
The solution is to find a reviewer who shares the same interests. But keep in mind reviewers can be jaded, angry, bitter, disillusioned, and euphoric. Did I mention manic? I know these symptoms to be true; I've been a reviewer for a decade.
A reviewer can make you look at things differently by giving you insight into aspects of a game you may take for granted. Maybe you don't care the game was scored by a world-famous symphonic composer, but how can you resist knowing that Kirby's Dreamland is Honey Boo Boo's mom's favorite game?
I happen to know that some of the best reviewers in the business work right here at Cheat Code Central. And I'm not saying that because it's where I work. My boss lets me say whatever I want, as long as I keep the language clean, which is not always easy. Consider that gaming companies advertise with us—the very same companies that produce the games I am in the process of slamming in my reviews. I have never been told to make a review more positive. That kind of integrity breeds honesty, and honesty is what keeps millions of people coming back to this sight. That's the demographic the advertisers want to reach, even if it means they get a bad review on one of their games.
So there's no need to look anywhere else for your gaming pleasure than Cheat CC.Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take this article to the boss and negotiate a raise, or the next Nintendo game is going to get slammed really bad!
