Gears of War 3 Wishlist

What We Want in Gears of War 3 article

4) Unreal Engine 4

For better or for worse, Gears of War has established itself (partly by virtue of being the younger sibling of the Unreal Tournament series) as a game that will rock your socks with graphical quality. While both games in the series have certainly already accomplished that amazing feat, we're not convinced that the Unreal Engine 3 has enough untapped potential to pull it off again. Epic has publicly stated that they are prepping UE4 for a 2012 release. Given that GoW3 is set to release in mid-2011, it's not hard to imagine that Epic could blow the world away with the amazing engine to set the stage for future games, not unlike what they did with the original GoW to showcase Unreal Engine 3. However, currently it looks like Epic will probably use a modified version of UE3.

5) No Daddy Issues, Please

Gears of War 2 periodically dropped hints about Adam Fenix (Marcus Fenix's father) and his dealings prior to the beginning of Gears of War. We're all for a dramatic plot with twists and turns, but we're hoping that Epic has the foresight to avoid any clich drama. The whole, "his father was the evil one behind it all along" thing has been played out to death. While it was kind of cool when it was Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader, we're not too keen on reliving the same plot twist over again.

6) Horde Mode

In GoW2, Epic introduced one of the most fun new multiplayer experiences in years with the all new "Horde mode." It was an extremely refreshing departure from the standard Deathmatch and Capture the Flag gameplay varieties that most games ship with these days. Thus, it's a no-brainer that we want this mode to come charging back in the third installment. However, a simple repackaging won't do. We're hoping for Epic to take things to the next level to deliver a co-op experience that rivals its predecessor.

What We Want in Gears of War 3 article

The main theme here is that we don't want Epic Games to get complacent and rest on its laurels, creating a ho-hum sequel that merely repackages old successes. Gears of War is a series that began by blazing trails both in graphics and gameplay, and that's the legacy that we're hoping to see continued as the series moves towards what may be the end of the current story-arc.
