We're in the waning part of 2012 now, but that's not a bad thing in the game industry, since that's when the big guns start hitting store shelves. We started this year with a list of 50 games we were looking forward to. Some of those games are already in our hungry hands, others have been pushed into 2013 and beyond, and there were even new surprises at E3 this year. I've decided to keep my picks broad, catering to many genres, representing every console. Yes, even the PC has a showing here. I'm sure to get flack for not loading the list with notable shooters like Black Ops 2, Far Cry 3, and Hitman: Absolution, but by all means, give them some press by filling up the comments section.
Mario is no stranger to "most anticipated games" lists (well, at least to the few impartial ones left). Lately, though, we're getting an overflow of his platforming adventures, and I think his newest RPG adventure needs to be on more people's radars.
In typical Paper Mario fashion, this oh-so-cute quest will feature a turn-based combat system where timing is key, a bevy of attack powers, and, as the title suggests, a sticker collection system that stars in both combat and exploration. The thinly sliced characters and environments should work well on the 3DS, and this game will be available to be added to your portable collection this holiday season.
Yes, World of Warcraft is still around, and though constantly pummeled by other free-to-play entries, the world of Azeroth is still growing. The newest expansion stretches into the continent of Pandaria, populated by the Pandaren. The Warcraft series' anthropomorphic panda race's main vocation seems to be that of a monk, the newest class.
The twist, though, is that the Pandaren are a neutral faction at the start, and you choose whether to side with the Alliance or the Horde after reaching level 10. Other upgrades include a level cap increase, new instances, a timed Challenge Mode, a skill tree reconfiguration, and a new battle system for vanity pets, allowing them to be trained, classified, and thrust into turn-based combat against wild pets and other trainers. I guess Pokémon has invaded Azeroth.
The 2013 pro sports series are nearly here, and it's always tough to single out one franchise over the others. Still, I have to give the nod to the non-American football. You'll find it available on every system you can think of, and its global release will surely have fans across the globe ready to start their Career Mode. A few new features to this season's entry includes the "Player Impact Engine" with more expansive battles for the ball; "Tactical Free Kicks," allowing you to position attackers and make dangerous and unpredictable kicks; and "Attacking Intelligence" which lets your analyze your route through the pitch and seize opportunities when an opening presents itself.
