Top 10 Hardest/Most Obscure Bosses in Gaming

Before I dive into this list of some of the hardest bosses in gaming that I've encountered, I wanted to start with this preface: I aimed to make this list more unique than some of the others I've seen. Therefore, I thought outside the box with this list, adding some unique and fun bosses into the article. Without further ado, onto the bosses.

10. RAAM - Gears of War

Honestly, I debated for hours over including RAAM or not over several bosses, but here's what made me actually include him in the list: I felt a sense of accomplishment after beating him. Compared to most of the other bosses he pushed off the list (all of them from turn based RPGs), RAAM requires a solid and sound strategy and careful tactics to beat him, especially on the insane difficulty. While he may be one of the "easier" bosses on the list to defeat, most gamers have required their fair share of do-overs to finally beat him.

9. Your Mind/Sanity – Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Bear with me on this. Those who have played Eternal Darkness may know what I'm getting at, but if you're one of the far too many people who haven't played this amazing Gamecube title, let me tell you exactly what I mean. Eternal Darkness features a sanity meter for your character. The lower it goes, the more things start to get freaky. Sometimes its simple things, like random screams and blood on the walls. But then the controller will claim it's unplugged, the game pretends to reset and acts like it's deleting your save title. The deeper you get into the game, the more intense these sanity effects get, the tougher the game gets for you as you play through, and in some cases, such as mine, the tougher it gets to even play the game without being terrified. Don't believe me? Dust off the Gamecube, turn off your lights, and put in Eternal Darkness and give it a spin.

8. Giacomo, Ayme, and Folon (2nd Encounter) - Baten Kaitos

Monolith Soft, developers of the popular RPG Xenosaga, released a card RPG for the Gamecube called Baten Kaitos. It featured one of the longest, roughest, and more frustrating boss battles I have ever encountered. You see, this is the second time you'll fight this trio of bosses, the first time being royal pains in the you-know-what. The second time around, however, not only are they stronger, but you fight them twice. That's correct. Twice. No breaks in between. I mean, it's not like Baten Kaitos used a card base battle sys—oh wait, it did. So on top of the five-hour-long boss battle, you're requiring a little bit of luck to keep drawing better than your opponents. Beating this battle deserves a well-deserved pat on the back.

7. Sinistar – Sinistar

It's bad enough that he finds extreme pleasure from constantly taunting you as you play. But once Sinistar becomes unleashed, especially on later levels, he's an absolute devil of a dude to kill. He moves in jerky manners akin to someone lagging while they're playing over the internet, something that gets more profound in the higher levels. On top of trying to escape his reach while shooting him down, you have to avoid asteroids and various other space ships. Like an old arcade space shooter, Sinistar takes lots of patience, practice, and skill to defeat.

6. Abominable Snow Monster – Ski Free

Ski Free is an incredible time waster. It's a game so simply and yet so addicting. You're skiing down the trail at breakneck speeds, waiting to reach the end of the mountain until out of nowhere this jerk comes and eats you. So, you try again; he still eats you. You keep trying, attempting to outrun and outmaneuver, all to no avail. This stupid jerkface refuses to lose.
