Modern Warfare 3 is easily the most anticipated game coming this year. Even though we're getting new games from The Elder Scrolls, Gears of War, and Assassin's Creed series this year, if you ask most gamers what they're most excited to play, the answer will be simple: Modern Warfare 3. So why is this game such a big deal? Well, we've got five reasons why you should be excited for Modern Warfare 3.
5. A True Blockbuster
When Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009, it broke all kinds of records and made nearly a billion dollars in revenue. While I'm sure much of that money went into executives' pockets, a lot of it went back into the development of the third Modern Warfare game. The budgets are bigger, the stakes are higher, and Activision has even gone as far as to create a Call of Duty-themed weekend event to help gamers get excited about Modern Warfare 3. All the stops have been pulled, and Modern Warfare 3 definitely represents the closest thing the gaming world has to a blockbuster title. Will it be as big as movie blockbusters like Avatar or the Harry Potter series? We'll have to wait and see, but I think Activision is doing everything in their power to make it so.
4. Continue the Story
Call of Duty has never been the strongest series in terms of narrative. However, we can at least give it some small praise here since it has kept us following the same characters over the years. Captain John "Soap" MacTavish has been a focal point throughout the series, and following his journey deeper into the international crisis that forms the backdrop of Modern Warfare 3 will certainly be compelling for fans. Modern Warfare 3 will also see the return of characters like Captain John Price and Sergeant Wallcroft. If you love the world of Modern Warfare and are interested in the fate of these characters, Modern Warfare 3 will certainly deliver.
3. Spec Ops
Spec Ops is a new survival-based cooperative mode that will allow you to team up with a friend (either online or locally) and blast through as many waves of enemies as possible. However, Modern Warfare will have a few interesting tweaks to the regular survival mode formula. You will be able to use a perks system similar to that of the regular multiplayer to deploy additional troops and units at strategic times, and will be able to earn bigger bonuses via a "spend or save" system. Though not much else has been revealed about new multiplayer, Spec Ops by itself is definitely something to get excited about.
