The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai is truly going to be one of the most unique titles to grace the Xbox LIVE Arcade. As 2007's XNA "Dream, Build, Play" winner, this title features a unique premise inspired by creator James E. Silva's own life. As a dishwasher who had a particular affinity for Bruce Lee movies, Silva decided to create a unique side-scrolling adventure that incorporated both of these facets of his life. The result looks like it is going to be very cool.
Although you will start off your adventure in The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai as a lowly dishwasher wielding kitchen-grade meat cleavers, this fantastical journey will see you chopping up enemies with increasingly awesome weapons like machine guns and samurai swords. Your character will also be able to incorporate the sacred art of dish magic in order to ward off enemies. Although we're not exactly sure what the story might entail, the gameplay looks so fun that this title might not even need a story! In addition to the main gameplay mode, there will also be an arcade mode, which has themed, standalone rooms for your hero to fight their way through. There will also be a Dish Challenge mode, which will test your ability to use combos to destroy persistent waves of enemies.
And, in a random gameplay twist, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai will also have a special, unlockable rhythm gameplay mode, which will allow players to plug in a Rock Band or Guitar Hero Guitar peripheral and play through a special rhythm-based combat mode. Although this last mode may seem a little unorthodox, this type of creativity is rarely seen in other games, and it is precisely what the "Dream, Build, Play" contest was all about. Although it has been a long time coming, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai will finally slash its way to the XBLA April 4!
