Introduction ________/_/ \ \ \ / / \ \ \ / / \ \ \ / _ / \ \/ / /_/ / \/ \________/ ******************************************************************************* THIS FAQ IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THE STAR OCEAN: THE SECOND STORY SOCIAL BOARD ON GAMEFAQS. Hey, Chris here AGAIN, with another Fire Emblem walkthrough. This time it's the seventh installation in the series, and the first one to hit American shores! Of course, I just HAD to make a walkthrough for it. Who knows, maybe I'll write walkthroughs for all the other Emblems... Note that I did NOT use the ROM once for this game. I haven't even downloaded it. I would just like to say that, because at times I was tempted to and I know it would have been a lot easier to do so. But in the end, I prevailed. So... Yeah. Anyway. So I finally got finished with this... And my e-mail is back up! Hurray! But you have to put the word "Tales" in the subject line in order for it not to be filtered. Oh yeah, the address is cstrittyrun@yahoo.com . Make sure you read the FAQ section before contacting me! Anything helpful, such as corrections, alternate strategies, or other things are more than welcome. Of course, I will give you full credit. If you like this game, then try these other ones (name of the game/series followed by my personal score out of 10): Fire Emblem series - 8 to 10/10 Final Fantasy Tactics - 10/10 Disgaea: Hour of Darkness - 9/10 Advance Wars - 8/10 Advance Wars 2 - 8/10 Langrisser series - 6 to 8/10 (I've only played 1, 2, & DL) Shining Force II - 7/10 TearRing Saga - ?/10 (Almost every FE site I've been to mentions this PS1 S/RPG. But I have yet to play it.) Thanks for reading this, and enjoy the game! ~Chris ******************************************************************************* /\ _ _ \ \// / / \//\ / / //\ \ / / |/\ \ \ II. FAQ History ________/_/ \ \ \ / / \ \ \ / / \ \ \ / _ / \ \/ / /_/ / \/ \________/ ******************************************************************************* Version 0.25 January 8, 2003 79 KB I started the walkthrough and turned in the first submission of it. Walkthrough is up to Chapter 10. Characters, weapons, items, etc. are finished up to that point. Estimated final KB: 350. Version 0.26 January 10, 2004 85 KB All I really did here is fixed up a couple of big mistakes (like, for example, saying that Lords cannot promote, and giving Wallace a 6 out of 10). Oh yeah, I also continued the walkthrough to Chapter 11, as a little bonus. Estimated final KB: 350. Version 0.50 January 23, 2004 229 KB Updated everything up to Chapter 19. This includes Characters, Walkthrough, Items, etc. Also started a list of every class, my own ranking of each support (in terms of usefulness, not story!), and a list of possible support matches for each character. I spent a lot of time explaining support as well. Finally, I upgraded the ASCII (which used to suck big time) and increased the estimated final KB, rounding it down a bit. Estimated final KB: 375 Version 1.00 February 22, 2004 380 KB I haven't been progressing as fast, but today I finished Eliwood's Tale, thus finishing the main walkthrough of the game (the "hidden" scenario is not yet started). Updated everything else to that point. Added some sections to "Misc.". I'm debating on whether or not this FAQ/Walkthrough will cover the unlockable scenario. Estimated final KB: ??? Version 1.01 March 3, 2004 382 KB Basically just a few big errors were fixed, a few more Support ratings and random stuff. Nothing big. Estimated final KB: ??? What to expect in Version 1.?? (OMG ITS A MYSTERY): ~"Secret" walkthrough started...? Possibly? I don't know yet. ~General updates. ~More expected finishing character stats. ~Possibly another lame attempt at ASCII on the bottom of the file (like Asaero and Ulf in my other FAQs). ******************************************************************************* /\ _ _ \ \// / / \//\ / / //\ \ / / |/\ \ \ III. The Basics ________/_/ \ \ \ / / \ \ \ / / \ \ \ / _ / \ \/ / /_/ / \/ \________/ ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A. Pre-Battle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 7 is when you are first able to access the "Combat Preparation" screen before battles. Before that point, you will automatically have your units and formation selected for you. But from now on, you can prepare for the upcoming battle before it starts. Press Start to begin the battle after choosing these preparations: Pick Units You will almost always have a limit on the number of characters to take into battle, for some odd reason (that's one reason why I loved Seisen no Keifu). Press A to select/deselect a unit. Chosen units are in blue, unselected ones are in gray. You can also access a list of the entire units by pressing Select. Some characters must be deployed. Trade You can trade items with other units, sell them, or use them here. Once you get Merlinus in Chapter 13x/16, you can give items to him for him to carry. You can also give all of a unit's items to him or see a list of all your items. Merlinus can carry a total of 100 items. Fortune Once you get Marcus he can tell you your performance ratings and tactician information here. A fortune teller that will join you later will allow you to use "Augury" which gives you hints on the upcoming battle, for a small price. You will also eventually be able to use "Reading", which allows you to see Support levels between units. Check Map You can check the battlefield map here. Look at enemies and the surroundings to plan a strategy. You will also be able to alter the formation of your units (characters who must be deployed can't change their formation). You can also access Options here or Save. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. Moving Around the Battlefield ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Moving Around To move a character, highlight one of them on the map and press A. Now, press any button on the control pad, and a bunch of highlighted squares will show up. Move the cursor to the square you want the character to move to and press A. The character will move! After they're done moving, another screen will pop up. Depending on where they are, there may be more than one option. 2. Attacking If a character is next* to an enemy, choose this option to attack them. If the character's next* to more than one, you can switch the target with the control pad. Press A to attack. The character will automatically attack the enemy, and the enemy will also counterattack*. *Archers must be two spaces away from an enemy to attack. Enemies can't counterattack them unless they also have a ranged weapon. Also, some spells can be cast from more than one panel away. Enemies can't counterattack them either, unless they have a bow or something. There are also some other weapons that can attack from the same distance or longer 3. Healing If a character is a healer, then they can cast healing spells instead of attacking. If it doesn't appear, then you are not close enough to a character. Choose the spell you wish to cast and press A. 5. Misc. Commands Some characters have special options available to them. For example, Nils can Play a song for a character and let them regain their turn while Matthew can Steal items from enemies. 6. Ending the Character's Turn Choose "Wait" to end a character's turn. After attacking or healing, they will automatically end their turn. Units riding on horse, pegasus, or wyvern will be able to move after doing other commands (such as visiting a village, using and item), but non-mounted characters cannot. 7. Weapons Select a weapon to equip it. 8. Options Change various options here. Misc. Rescue: Carry a person out of harm's way. Trade: Trade items with someone. Support: Increase Support between two characters. Seize: Seize the throne to end a battle. Buildings Fortress: Recover a few HP at the beginning of your turn. House: Visit for some information. Shops: Buy stuff here. Village: Visit to receive some stuff. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. Battling ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is how various things are calculated in FE7: Attack = Weapon Power + Strength/Magic Defense = Defense Attack - Defense = HP Damage to defender Hit % = Weapon Hit % + 2x Skill + Luck/2 Critical % = Weapon Critical % + Skill/2 Evade %: If Constitution > Weapon Weight: 2x Speed + Luck If Constitution < Weapon Weight: 2x Speed + Luck - 2x(Weapon Weight - Constitution) Critical Evade %: Luck (Critical hits do 3x the regular damage) These values can be affected by these factors: Terrain effects (standing on various terrains) Support effects (two characters must have Support and be less than three panels away from each other) Tactician's affinity (if a character's affinity matches the tactician's affinity then the character gets a +5% boost to all stats) Types of weapons the attacker and defender are wielding Wow this is boring. The "Weapon Triangles": Swords > Axes Axes > Lances Lances > Swords Light > Dark Dark > Anima Anima > Light All other types of weapons are neutral. The "Reaver" weapons reverse the triangle. So the Lancereaver sword is good against Lances but bad against Axes. Some weapons are effective against different enemies: Name Effect against All Bows Pegasus/Falcon Knights, Wyvern Riders/Lords Armorslayer Knights/Generals Halberd Anyone on a horse. Hammer Knights/Generals Heavy Spear Knights/Generals Horseslayer Anyone on a horse. Longsword Anyone on a horse. Mani Katti (See below) Rapier (See below) Swordslayer Myrmidons/Swordmasters, Mercenaries/Heroes Wolf Beil (See below) Wyrmslayer Wyvern Riders/Lords, Fire Dragons The Mani Katti, Rapier, and Wolf Beil are all effective agianst the following: Cavaliers, Paladins, Nomads, Nmd Troopers, Knights, Generals, Troubadours, and Valkyries. Also, note that: When Eliwood promotes, he gets the weaknesses of a Cavalier/Paladin. When Lyn promotes, she gets the weaknesses of a Myrmidon/Swordmaster. When Hector promotes, he gets the weaknesses of a Knight/General. Also, the legendary weapons (Durandal, Sol Katti, Armads, Forblaze and Aureola) are all effective against Fire Dragons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D. Notice the little "anime" they stuck in; this is a Fire Emblem first. A girl, named Lyn from the Lorca tribe, had found you unconscious on the plains and took you in. For those who have played previous Fire Emblems, notice how her face changes directions and expressions. Pretty cool, eh? Anyway, right now you are on the plains of Sacae. Lyn steps outside and sees a couple of bandits from Bern. She'll take you with her. You go outside and the battle commences. Unfortunately, Nintendo decided to include a huge tutorial in the first stateside Fire Emblem, the logic probably being that we Americans are too dumb to figure this stuff out. Feh. They should have done what they did in Advance Wars... Anyway, this tutorial spans 10 chapters (that's right), and you're not even in chapter 1. Thankfully, whenever they try to teach you about how to play the game, you can skip it by pressing Start or B. This game is very similar to Advance Wars (made by the same developer, Intelligent Systems), but it is a lot harder. Still, these tutorials are ridiculous. Go ahead and skip them if you've played any other Fire Emblem games, especially Fuuin no Ken, because this is extremely similar. Anyway, this chapter is impossible to lose, because the tutorial is holding your hand the whole way through. First, move Lyn towards the Brigand. The Brigand will move closer. Then attack him. On his turn, he will attack back, and will die. Lyn will be hurt, and you will be asked to use one of her Vulneraries (I used to always call them "Salves", so if I accidentally say "Salve" then I mean "Vulnerary"). Move Lyn towards Batta and use one. Then attack Batta. He will automatically injure Lyn, and if he hits her again, she will die. But don't worry. On his turn, he misses, and Lyn does a critical hit and kills him. Lyn will grow a level. Now, move Lyn to the spot where Batta was standing and select "Seize" to win the battle. The next day, Lyn asks you to take her with you as you travel. She tells you her parents were killed six months ago by bandits. She was the only survivor from the Lorca tribe. She wants to get stronger so that she can avenge her family and tribe. You then automatically agree to take her with you. And so the next battle starts. =============================================================================== Chapter 1: Footsteps of Fate =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Virtuous to a fault. Starting Item(s): Iron Lance, Iron Sword, Vulnerary Starting Weapon Levels: Sword (D), Lance (E) Affinity: Anima No Shops No Villages/Chests No Conversations You and Lyn decide to go to Bulgar, the largest city in Sacae, in order to prepare for your journey to get stronger. Once you arrive, you run into two knights from the city of Caelin in Lycia. Their names are Sain and Kent; Sain is the crazy womanizer, and Kent is the serious one (so the green/red Social Knight rivalry continues :). They are apparently on a mission to find someone. Lyn leaves in disgust after Sain messes around with her. As soon as she leaves, she finds herself being pursued by bandits who have been sent to kill her. But there are too many for her alone to handle. Fortunately for you both, Sain and Kent ride to the rescue. The battle starts. First, Sain wants to attack the bandit to the right of him. He misses with his lance, while the bandit hits him. This brings into light the "weapons triangle"; swords beat axes beat spears beat swords. Kent gives him an Iron Sword. Now Kent asks to be allowed to attack the bandit. Have Lyn finish him off. Sain will ask to be given another chance. Have him attack the bandit to the south; he will miss yet again. Kent tells him it is because the brigand is in the woods, which increases a unit's evasion and defense. Now Kent asks to attack; move him in the woods next to the Brigand and do so. Move Lyn to the forest in the northeast. Lyn asks Sain why he didn't heal himself, and offers a Vulnerary to him. Move him up to her and select "Trade". I would take the Vulnerary with only two uses left, since Sain usually lasts longer than Lyn, and will probably need to use them less often. Now have him use it. Cavaliers (if I ever call them "Social Knights", I mean "Cavaliers") and other mounted units have the ability to move again after using an item, trading, etc. The exceptions to this rule are attacking and healing (with a staff). The tutorial finally shuts up for the rest of the chapter. If you need to take a break select "Suspend". You will be able to continue from where you left off. But you can just shut off your GBA without having to worry about losing data. Have Kent finish the Brigand to the south, while Lyn moves north to the forest southeast of the other bandit. The enemy will most likely attack Sain. Have Sain finish him off. Now there are only two enemies left. When you get too close to the Brigand across the bridge he will come and attack you. Again I would have Sain finish him off, since he has the lowest EXP. Once he dies, the "victory" song plays (this song is the one which plays when only one enemy remains on the map). Zulu, the boss, can kill Lyn in two hits, but it takes three to kill Sain and Kent. So I would use them. When every enemy dies the battle is over. Lyn talks to Sain and Kent (anime scene) about why they helped her. They are messengers of Lady Madelyn who came to Sacae 19 years ago with a nomad. Madelyn is Marquess Caelin's only daughter. Madelyn sent Caelin a letter about herself and her family living on the plains of Sacae. She had a daughter named Lyndis, which is the same name as Marquess Caelin's late wife. Marquess Caelin sent Sain and Kent to find his granddaughter, and it just so happens to be Lyn. The bandit was apparently a guy working for a man named Lundgren, who is Marquess Caelin's brother and Lyn's granduncle. This means that since Madelyn died, Lundgren would take the throne. But after hearing news that his brother's granddaughter was still alive, he sent assassins after he because she might take the throne after her grandfather dies. Lyn agrees to journey with Sain and Kent to Caelin. Of course, you go with them as well. =============================================================================== Chapter 2: Sword of Spirits =============================================================================== Objective: Seize the throne. But now some bandits have overrun the shrine in order to steal the legendary sword, the Mani Katti. A swordsman named Glass is leading the attack. However, he cannot pull the sword from its scabbard, and decides to destroy the altar. A woman begs Lyn to help save the altar from the bandits. First have your troops visit the houses to the south. They will give information that can help you out. After this move them back north. Make sure everyone lands either in a forest or fort to raise evasion. The tutorial will stop for the remainder of the chapter and will let you do whatever you want. Kill off the three Brigands that are advancing towards you. Just use swords and you'll do fine. Use Vulneraries if you must. You can either go through the front gate or knock down the wall in order to get to the throne; however, Lyn is the only one that can traverse the mountains in order to go through the front gate. Therefore I recommend breaking down the wall, even though it is sort of sacrilegious :). Simply attack it like you would a normal enemy. The pillars next to the one Brigand inside increase evasion and defense like forests and forts do. Try to distribute EXP evenly, but give a bit more to Sain and Kent than to Lyn (you'll see why farther in the game). I would take out the Brigand guarding the front gate as well for some more EXP. Glass, the boss, is extremely easy. Use Sain or Kent's Iron Lance on him. He should go down in 1 or 2 turns. He will drop a Vulnerary. Once he dies, have Lyn seize the throne. Lyn will find that the priest of the altar is alright. He allows her to lay her hands on the Mani Katti. When Lyn does, it glows a bright light. The priest says it has chosen her to be its owner. Lyn draws out the sword easily. Sain and Kent are amazed to see this. Only Lyn can use this special sword. Meanwhile, in Caelin, a soldier informs Lundgren that Lyn is still alive. He says the bandits from Bern will finish her off before she gets to Caelin. He is more concerned with his brother, whom he is slowly poisoning to death in order to get the throne. =============================================================================== Chapter 3: Band of Mercenaries =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Now she passes through a mountain range that separates Sacae and Bern, which is the home to many bandits, including the cruel Taliver tribe. You enter a village to find it in ruins, at the hands of the Taliver bandits. These bandits are the ones who destroyed Lyn's village. You, Kent, and Sain promise to help her out when the time comes for vengeance. You find some fighting going on close to you. Some bandits have captured a girl and her pegasus, which trampled over them, and are planning on selling them. Lyn recognizes the pegasus rider as her friend Florina and comes to her aid. She tries to reason with the bandits, but there's no use. They attack. First off, have Lyn visit the southwestern village. You'll get a new unit, Wil. He is an Archer, and has to attack from two spaces away. Have him attack the Mercenary to the north. Next is Florina. She is a Pegasus Knight, a unit that can traverse almost any obstacle. Select her, and if you want a laugh, try to move her to a space that the tutorial doesn't allow her to. Have her finish of the Mercenary. Then have Kent/Sain attack the Archer to the east. Make sure to keep Florina away from Archers. Following the Fire Emblem tradition, bows are still devastating to flying units. So be careful. Have Florina save the northwestern village and she will get 2000 gold. There is a weapon shop, called an Armory, in the southeast corner of this map. You can buy stuff here if you want. Check the list above to see what items are available for purchase. Have Sain/Kent enter the forest to the east and kill the Brigand; they should be able to do so in two strikes. Notice that you can't counterattack arrows unless your units also have ranged weapons. But also, Archers can't counterattack unless you're in their range. So stay close to enemy Archers, and have your Archers stay away from enemies. Use swords against Brigands and lances against Mercenaries. Keep Florina away from both Brigands and Archers and you should be alright. Once you've bought everything you need, it's time to deal with the boss. Migal has special conversations with both Florina and Lyn, but I'd keep both away from him. His Steel Axe is very powerful. My strategy is to fire arrows at him with Wil until he's weakened enough for Lyn to kill him in one hit with her Mani Katti Florina is an apprentice Pegasus Knight training in Ilia. However, to complete her training, she must travel with a band of mercenaries. Sain gets an idea for her to travel with them on the way to Caelin. Florina accepts the offer, and Wil willingly joins too (yeah, my puns are as terrible as ever). Enjoy the anime scene. =============================================================================== Chapter 4: In Occupation's Shadow =============================================================================== Objective: Protect Natalie for seven turns. They find an abandoned fortress to stay in for the night. Little do they know, other Ganelon bandits are after them. In the fortress, a wounded girl named Natalie is searching for her husband, Dorcas, who has left to gain money to heal her. Suddenly, Ganelon bandits lay siege to the fort on all sides. Natalie must be protected. The goal is to prevent Natalie from getting killed for seven turns. This should be no trouble at all. She is deep inside the fortress and the enemies are far away. Enemies will be attacking the wall at the west but it will take a while for them to break it. Most of the enemies will be coming from the south, while a few come from the east. Lyn decides to protect the east wall while everyone else guards the main entrance. Have Lyn and Florina move east while Sain and Kent guard the two spots which make up the main entrance. Wil should go to the west wall and attack the Mercenary and Brigand there. One of the enemies is Dorcas, Natalie's wife. He will most likely attack Lyn but miss. Have Lyn talk to him and he will join. Then have Dorcas attack the Brigand above him from two spaces away with his long-range Hand Axe; he will automatically kill him and take his Iron Axe. Move Dorcas and Lyn back inside the castle to support Sain and Kent. Florina should go to the northeast corner of the map in order to deal with the Mercenaries. Meanwhile, hopefully most of the southern enemies will be killed when they try to attack your Cavaliers. Kent will hopefully be able to attack them twice with his sword right now. Make sure you try to split the EXP evenly between the two. If Wil gets done killing the northwestern enemies he should join Kent and Sain. Try to have Dorcas talk to his wife, Natalie. They will have a little talk, but nothing will happen. Just keep holding back enemies. If someone is badly wounded have them step away and use a Vulnerary while someone else fills in there spot. Carjiga will call for reinforcements on around turn 2-3, I forget. But they're nothing to worry about. If you feel like it you can go kill Carjiga for some extra EXP; be warned, he is very powerful (but he also misses a lot). Once seven turns have passed the enemy will retreat. Dorcas decides to stay with you in order to get money and heal his wife. =============================================================================== Chapter 5: Beyond the Borders =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Florina should go as far east as she can to take out the Mercenary. Have everyone else go up and around, killing the easy enemies along the way. One Brigand drops an Iron Sword. You can buy some stuff at the Armory if you want. I'd buy Javelins for Sain, Kent, and Florina. Use long range attacks against Brigands and Mercenaries, and short range attacks against Archers. The same goes for the boss, Bug; just use Erk's magic, Wil's Iron Bow and Dorcas' Hand Axe. He won't be able to lay a finger on you. After the battle, Lyn says goodbye to Serra and Erk. But Sain comes and meets Serra, who wants to serve Lyn. Sain goes back to convince her. Meanwhile, back in Caelin, Lundgren finds out that Lyn has crossed the Lycia border and is heading to Araphen. But she still has a way to go before she reaches Caelin. Lundgren, her granduncle, sends out his assassins to finish her before she gets to her grandfather's castle. Lyn enters Araphen, the second largest town in Lycia, only to find it under attack by men who want her dead. As Lyn is about to get attacked, a mysterious horseman named Rath comes to aid her. Rath tells her that if they can push all three switches they can get inside to save Marquess Araphen. But some of the doors are locked. Thankfully, Lyn finds a Thief named Matthew hiding out in a house to the north. Have him open the first door and have Rath "Wait" on the switch to activate it. Meanwhile, have everyone else take care of the two Mercenaries. On the next turn, have Matthew open the chest for an Angelic Robe. This permanently increases a character's HP by 7 when used, but disappears after one use. I can't agree more when Matthew says "don't fret or you'll never use it", as this is what I did in FE3 and kept every single stat-increasing item I got until the end of the game. My top choice for it is Serra by far, but Lyn, Florina, and Erk are all good choices as well. Don't use it on anyone else, as most of them get really good HP gains (Dorcas and Rath should max theirs out by the end of the game)! Visit the village for a Door Key and then use it to open the southeastern door (kill the Soldier first). Inside is another Soldier and the second switch; take him out and stand on it. Kill the Soldier blocking the upper right door and open that one with Matthew first. Inside is a chest that contains an Armorslayer. This weapon is good against heavily armored enemies like Knights and Generals. Finally, have Matthew open the last door, the one above the chest with the Angelic Robe. Inside this is a Soldier, the boss, and the final switch. You'll have to kill the boss to get to it. First, finish the Archer with melee attacks. Conveniently, the boss is a Knight, who is weak to the Armorslayer. However, Lyn's Mani Katti and Erk's magic work just as well. So kill him in any way you wish. Then step on the switch. After the battle, Lyn meets with Marquess Araphen. He is going to withdraw his support for her simply because she is Sacaen. Plus he doesn't want to get in trouble if Lundgren becomes the next Marquess of Caelin. Sain can hardly hold himself back, but Lyn decides to leave. Rath overhears him and takes his leave as well. He decides to join Lyn, and give her 5000 Gold. =============================================================================== Chapter 7: Siblings Abroad =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat Black Fang shaman Heintz. However, a young boy named Nils begs Lyn for help rescuing his sister, Ninian, from a group of enemies. Lyn decides to help him. *Random "Did-You-Know": The map spells the town "Khathelet" but Kent says "Kathelet". Whoops! To get to Chapter 7x, you must complete this Chapter in 15 turns or less. This will be your first sort-of real battle. You're not into the tough stuff yet, but this is the first where you have a limit on how many units you can deploy. Two units must sit out for this map, and I strongly recommend benching Dorcas and Matthew. There are no spear wielding enemies here, and tons of magic users, so Dorcas wouldn't fare too well. And there is nothing to steal/nothing to open for Matthew. I will list who you should deploy at the top of every mission thing. You can also trade items here, set your formation, and save. On the very first turn, Lucius the Monk will join you. He is very useful against Shamans, who you'll be facing plenty of in this level. Unfortunately, he has the lowest Defense in the game, so be careful with him! Have him attack the Shaman. Then have Nils play a song in order to give Lucius another turn. The song playing animation/music are very stupid, so I would turn it off. Have Lucius finish off the Shaman. Florina should go directly south and equip the Javelin in order to take care of the generic Shaman. Make sure you try to level her up well, as she will become an excellent fighter later on. Have your main squad go around east, killing the enemies you fight along the way. Use swords on axes and lances on swords. One of the Brigands drops an Iron Lance. Visit the village to get some Pure Water, which raises your Magic Defense temporarily and decreases every turn until it reaches its normal level. This, obviously, should be used when fighting a tough magical boss. Just continue on towards the castle; you should meet little resistance. If you want to, you can use Florina to transport units west of the castle and finish the chapter quicker. The only other way is to go around to the east, then south past the bridges (mounted units other than Florina must use the bridge to the right), and then west. Kill any remaining enemies near the boss and take out Heintz with Lucius. After that, the battle ends. Ninian is not there, it seems. But all of a sudden a young man with red hair carries her in. He is Eliwood, son of the Marquess of Pherae (yeah, yeah, this guy is Roy's father). Nils thanks him for saving his sister and Lyn tells Eliwood her story. Her grandfather (Lord Hausen [it's about time we got a name!]) is a good friend of Marquess Pherae's. Eliwood offers help, but Lyn refuses. Meanwhile, Ninian wakes up. Her dancing abilities have the same effect as Nils' songs, but she twisted her ankle and can't perform. She also has the ability to sense imminent danger. They decide to join Lyn on her journey. If you beat this in 15 turns or less, you'll get an additional conversation. Ninian notices that her ring has been stolen by the Black Fang, and it's up to you whether you want to get it back or not. I would say Yes. If you said that, then go to Chapter 7x. If not, then go to Chapter 8. If you took more than 15 turns to beat this Chapter, go to Chapter 8. =============================================================================== Chapter 7x: The Black Shadow =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. Otherwise, go on to Chapter 8. Lyn comes upon a Black Fang stronghold where the guys that stole Ninian's ring are hiding out. A woman tells Beyard, the leader of the stronghold, that he better not fail, and then she leaves. For this battle, I would bench Lucius, because there are mostly physically powerful enemies (which can kill him easily), and also Wil, because Rath ends up much better. It is strongly recommended that you deploy a variety of units. Matthew is also needed here. Kill off the Soldier to the west that is blocking the crack in the wall. He drops a Vulnerary. Then break down the wall, kill the Archer in the room, and have Matthew open the chest for a Hammer. Have Sain/Kent go up the main hall (stay out of the Mage's range!) and let Florina go up the hall to the right in order to take care of the lone Cavalier. Let a ranged attacker kill the Soldier right above you, in the room with the stairs (Erk/Rath work well). Have everyone else go west, then up the main hall, or west through the treasure room. Have Matthew give the Hammer axe to Dorcas. Also try to have Matthew steal the Lockpick from the enemy Thief (he will retreat from the map when you do this). Have whoever is with you take out the enemies that come down. Meanwhile, Sain/Kent should easily kill the two Mercenaries and Brigand in the main hallway. Eventually, a few enemy reinforcements will come up the stairs. They are very easy. Once again, have Rath/Erk take out the Soldier in the trapped room, while Florina (recommended) takes out the Shaman and Mage. Beyard, the boss, isn't too tough. He is easily killed at a distance by using magic, arrows, and Javelins. Once you kill everyone, Lyn will let Beyard live if he gives her the ring and promises never to hunt Ninian and Nils again. But Beyard kills himself, fearing that the other woman would kill her. Lyn gives Ninian back her ring, Nini's Grace. =============================================================================== Chapter 8: Vortex of Strategy =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. However, Lundgren is more determined than ever to stop her. He has deployed a ballista to try and stop them from reaching the castle. Matthew cannot be deployed here (not that you would've, anyway). I recommend have Florina sit out, as (like Sain pointed out) the ballista will beat her down. I chose to sit out Rath as well, but it's up to you (Sain is also a good choice). Just make sure to deploy Wil, Dorcas, a Cavalier, a magic guy (Lucius), and Serra. Have Lucius go east to take out the Shaman and Mage. Make sure to keep him in the forest to raise evasion/defense! That ballista can kill him in two hits (see why I don't like him?). Meanwhile, have everyone else go down to deal with the enemies. You'll be attacked by Mercenaries, Cavaliers, and Soldiers, none of which are really a big deal. Quickly kill the Archer in the ballista and have Wil take it over. Most likely there are only a couple arrows left (or maybe none at all). Attack the Soldier near the boss, and you might be able to kill him. Watch out, though, as those guys don't have normal weapons; they have the Reaver weapons, which reverse the triangle. Meanwhile, the sword Lancereaver is good against Lances but bad against Axes. Speaking of which, the old man in the northeastern village gives you a Lancereaver. Most likely only Lyn (or maybe Kent, or doubtfully Sain) will be able to use it. So anyway, use the ballista/Lyn to take out the Soldier, Sain/Kent to kill the Brigand and Dorcas to take care of the Mercenary. If all that reversal triangle stuff confuses you, you can just use ranged attacks. As for Yogi, the boss, Erk and Lucius work rather well. After the battle, Matthew comes back and tells Lyn some startling news; Lundgren may have poisoned Hausen, and as soon as he became ill, Lundgren took over. He also tells her that Lundgren announced that Kent and Sain are traitors, and that Lyn is an impostor. Lyn decides to go back to Khathelet and meet with Eliwood. =============================================================================== Chapter 9: A Grim Reunion =============================================================================== Objective: Seize the castle gate. Eliwood has managed to talk to all the local Marquises and convince them to stay neutral in the dispute. However, this also means Eliwood cannot help her. Lyn departs again for Caelin, with only one obstacle left before she can reach the castle; a man named Eagler. This will be your first "Fog of War" map, which allows units to see three panels around them. Thieves can see 10 panels around them, though, so bring Matthew along. Again you must choose to bench two characters; I chose Wil and Lucius, but Sain is also someone you might want to rest (in my opinion, Kent is better, and in most cases will end up better). Also Rath and Erk usually end up better than Wil and Lucius, respectively. But it's entirely up to you. Once the battle starts, you'll run into Wallace, the ex-Commander of Caelin's army. He sees Lyn and is immediately convinced that she is Madelyn's daughter, and joins you. Now the tutorial will go into changing classes. Characters can promote at level 10, but you can raise them as high as level 20 before promoting them. I can't recommend waiting enough, as it allows characters to gain more stats and will be much more useful in the end. Unfortunately Wallace wants promoted right now, and you're forced to do so. So go ahead and use the Knight Crest to promote him into a General. He'll gain various stats during promotion. Each class type requires a different item to promote. Enemy reinforcements will come out ASAP, so don't be fooled by the low number of enemies. Have Kent block the southeastern bridge, while Dorcas goes to the fort in the northwest corner, and Sain, Lyn and/or Matthew go towards the two other western forts (the bottom left corner and the one in the middle of the mountains). You should also keep a character on the northern edge of the screen, where there is an opening in the mountain range, to prevent the enemies from coming in. Give him some backup. Do NOT send Florina with the northern group, as Archers come up that way. Have someone go to the sole village for a Torch. Here is a small bit of advice: do NOT use Wallace! He will eat up your other character's EXP faster than a fat man at a pie eating contest. He IS invincible for this battle though, not even the boss can hurt him! Turn 3 is when the fog starts to roll in. Use the Torch to extend a character's range of sight to 10 panels. Be aware, that this amount decreases by 1 every turn. Also, the fog will remain there until the end of the Chapter. There are 20 reinforcements total, with 4 coming out of the two westernmost forts and 3 out of the rest of them. Just hold out until all the reinforcements are defeated. Dorcas should easily be able to handle the 3 Soldiers on his own. Matthew can gain some easy EXP by taking out the Brigands in the lower left corner (have Serra nearby). Sain, Erk, and Florina were able to handle the southeast bridge, while Kent and Rath took care of the northeastern enemies. Lyn will easily kill the Brigands coming down the mountain towards the middle. When they all are dead, head towards Eagler. Kill the two Soldiers guarding him with whoever. Watch out as Eagler has long range weapons. Use Wallace to weaken him with his Iron Axe, and let Kent and Sain throw Javelins at him. Lyn should finish him off when he has low HP with her Mani Katti. Apparently Lundgren was holding someone close to Eagler hostage and made him fight you. Lyn will never forgive him. Meanwhile, Lundgren tells his brother that his granddaughter is already dead and he will soon join her. =============================================================================== Chapter 10: The Distant Plains =============================================================================== Objective: Seize the castle gate. Only one thing stands between her and her father: Lundgren. For this battle, you can send your entire army. So don't bench anyone. Make sure Wallace is in the back of your formation so you don't accidentally use him. First off go east and kill the Soldier, Mage and Archer. Keep Florina back so she doesn't get hit by an arrow. You'll notice a Brigand is slowly advancing towards the village; you need to get there quickly. On turn 3 it starts raining and doesn't stop until turn 5. Rain lowers everyone's movement. Save the village for an Energy Ring. I recommend using it on Lyn, although Matthew is a good choice, as well as Kent, Florina and Serra. Kill the Brigand, Mercenary and Archer that were moving, and then kill off any other enemies around. Cavaliers will starting coming out of the forts eventually, so be ready for them. They all carry Lances. It will rain again on turn 9, but this time it will only last 1 turn. From then on it rains on turns 15, 20, 25, etc. Keep marching towards castle Caelin. Have Wallace hit the snag in the lower right corner to form a bridge that your units can cross. Don't buy anything! Bait the Knight out with Dorcas by standing on the fort. Now it's time to deal with Lundgren, the source of all Lyn's troubles. He has a very lethal Silver Spear, so I recommend beating him up with Wallace. Sain/Kent have conversations with him if they attack him, but it's likely they won't do any damage (attack using Javelins!). When Lundgren is down to very low HP, have Lyn step in and slice him up with her Mani Katti. If she misses, quickly get Nils in there and get her out of there (or you could rescue her with someone). Just be careful, as that Silver Lance will likely kill Lyn in one hit! Weirdly enough, when my Lyn attacked him, she did a critical hit and killed him. Not only that, but she also grew a weapon level! Talk about coincidence. After he is dead sell EVERYTHING that EVERYONE owns (you can't sell the Mani Katti). Use up the stat growth items NOW. Then conquer Caelin using Lyn. Not even I will spoil this part for you. :) So there you have it. Hopefully your characters' levels were around this: Lyn: 7 Sain: 6-7 Kent: 7 Florina: 7 Wil: 5 Dorcas: 7 Serra: 3 Erk: 7 Rath: 7-8 Matthew: 5 Nils: 4 Lucius: 5 Wallace: 1 If you were that or higher, then you're in awesome shape. Don't fret at all if you're a little lower, though. It doesn't really matter. However, if like everyone but Wallace is level 1 and Wallace is like level 532458, then you may have a problem. The game asks if you want to save/continue. The character you will use for the remainder of the game is Eliwood (or someone else, if you've beaten the game before). If he, his friend Hector, or Lyn (if you ever see her again) die then it's Game Over. Also, once a character dies from now on, they are gone for good. Any characters that have died before this point will be good to go, however, right now you will lose everyone in your party... for the moment. =============================================================================== Chapter 11: Taking Leave =============================================================================== Objective: Seize the gate to the mayor's home. He says goodbye to his mother, whom Isadora is guarding. Roy leaves with Marcus, and also Marcus's assistant, Lowen, who is currently in a village to the west. In that village, a man named Groznyi announces a takeover because of the absence of Elbert. Lowen runs out of the village and returns to Eliwood and Marcus, with two people with him; a girl named Rebecca, and you. Rebecca is the daughter of the village magistrate, and begs Eliwood for help. Of course, Eliwood consents, and allows Rebecca to fight. And you automatically agree to advising everyone. First off, let me give you a small bit of advice: DO NOT USE MARCUS. NEVER EVER. Not even once. He is THE absolute WORST character in the game. Right now, he's the best you have, but believe me, you will REALLY regret it in the end if you use him! Use him ONLY if you must, and you have tried every other method of not using him possible. He is friggin TERRIBLE. (He also was in Fuuin no Ken, and sucked just as bad then as he does now) I would give Eliwood his Steel Sword and Lowen his Steel Lance, and then have him just sit back and watch the rest of the battle. Have Rebecca, Lowen, and Eliwood attack the northern Brigand, in that order. On turn 2, Dorcas and a guy named Bartre will join you to help fight the bandits. Dorcas won't have any items that he had before, but he will have some brand new ones. He keeps his EXP and Weapon Levels, though. I would give his Energy Ring to Lowen, but it's up to you (don't let Dorcas or Marcus use it! Eliwood, Rebecca, and Bartre are all decent choices as well). Save the village for a Dragonshield, which raises Defense by 2. Rebecca should use this. This is pretty straightforward, just attack the Brigands using Rebecca first and then finish them off using Eliwood, Lowen, or Bartre. I don't really like Bartre at all, but hey, you can use him if you feel like it. I don't like Lowen, either. But Rebecca and Eliwood are good. Dorcas is average, and I think you already know how I feel about Marcus... Buy 3 Vulneraries at the Vendor, and give them to Dorcas, Lowen, and Bartre. Press on towards the village cautiously, because there's always a chance that they might all team up on one character and kill them (in which case, reset). Characters that die from now on are gone for good. The boss, Groznyi, is nothing to worry about. Attack him from a distance with Rebecca, Lowen, and Bartre, and I recommend finishing him off with Eliwood. Seize the village gate to win the battle. The magistrate will thank you and give you some information; Lord Darin of Laus is preparing for war. Thinking that there may be a connection between Darin and his father's disappearance, Eliwood decides that that is where he will travel to next. Meanwhile, Rebecca convinces her father to go with Eliwood on his journey, and that maybe she will run into her brother. =============================================================================== Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat all enemy units. After saving the village, Eliwood begins the search for his father. The magistrate suggests looking in Laus, and Eliwood agrees. The first stop along the way is in Santaruz, where Marquess Helman is a good friend of Eliwood and Elbert's. However, it seems a mysterious man (take a good look at what you can see on his face; notice the eye color) is manipulating him for some reason. He sends some men to attack Eliwood before he can reach Santaruz. Before the battle starts, Dorcas says hello to you. So anyway, first have Marcus go to the northern village for a Secret Book. This increases a character's Skill by 2. If you plan on using Bartre or Lowen, give it to them. If not, then I recommend waiting until later in the battle and giving it to a guy named Oswin. The first part of this battle is easy; just slaughter the oncoming Brigands with swords while taking out the Mercs with spears and Soldiers with Axes. On enemy turn 3, Zagan's main group will advance. Just as all seems lost, on turn 4, some help arrives for you. A guy named Hector beats down a Santaruz Soldier, saying that he must hurry to help Eliwood. Serra and Matthew are with him, as well as a guy named Oswin. Hector tells Matthew and Serra to hide while he and Oswin go help Eliwood's group. Have Oswin kill the two Soldiers to the east while Hector attacks the enemies to the south and joins Eliwood. They have a conversation if you have them talk. In the Armory, I would buy an Iron Sword for Eliwood and an Iron Axe for Hector. Meanwhile, have Lowen go stand on the Fort to the east, to the southwest of the enemy group, and have him equip his Iron Sword. The Brigands won't be able to hit him and the Mercs and Archer won't put a dent in his pimpin' gold armor. But you have to watch out for the boss, Zagan, who is pretty tough. He is the first boss that actually moves around (if I recall correctly). I used Eliwood to kill him fairly easily. Just make sure you use cover. After the battle, Eliwood talks with Hector. His brother, Lord Uther, is the new Marquess of Ostia. Hector then introduces Oswin, Serra, and Matthew to Eliwood (yeah, the same Matthew and Serra from before). Hector tells Eliwood that some assassins from Bern are lurking around in Lycia. Marcus tells Hector that someone wants Eliwood dead, and Hector tells them about the guard from Santaruz who didn't help Eliwood. Eliwood suspects something might be wrong with Lord Helman. Also, Hector talks with you, and Matthew and Serra are glad to see you again. Matthew reveals himself as a spy working for Ostia, and Serra is working for Ostia as well. Seeing that he had almost killed Eliwood, he says he is going to be involved with the Black Fang no longer and will go talk to him about his father. However, the mysterious Ephidel cuts him down... To get to Chapter 13x, you must visit the Village in the upper left corner. Matthew and Serra have joined, and Lowen talks to you at the beginning of the battle. Have him go down and attack the Brigand, and have Rebecca finish him off. Have Marcus go to the houses in the west, while Dorcas, Bartre and Oswin knock down the tree and enter the Village. They'll find a merchant of sorts who drops a Torch. Have Oswin knock down the other snag, take out the Mercenary, and then have Dorcas and Bartre go on a killing spree against the Soldiers around the castle. Meanwhile, everyone else should go south. Have Hector stand on the Fort that is just out of Guy's (the enemy Myrmidon's) range. Let Eliwood, Lowen, Matthew, Rebecca, and Serra stay in the forests away from them. Reinforcements will pour out of the other Forts in time, but Hector should easily be able to handle them all. Whatever you do, DON'T get into Guy's range. He can easily kill any of your characters. When all the enemies aside from Guy are mopped up in the southeast, have Matthew stand on the Fort. On the next turn, have him go up and talk to Guy. Because Matthew saved his life, Guy will switch to your side. Hooray! Guy ends up awesome, so you won't be disappointed. Hopefully Dorcas/Bartre can handle those Soldiers by the castle. If not then have your main force go help them out. Make sure you buy an Iron Sword (for Guy), a Hand Axe (for Hector), and a Heal (for Serra)! You can buy some other stuff if you want to as well. Now for the boss. He is pretty strong, but Hector should be able to take him. Have him equip the Wolf Beil and just wait in front of the boss. The boss should attack him, and then Hector should counter. Heal Hector with Serra and then attack him. If Hector misses, rescue him with someone (Oswin), because even Hector is likely to be killed in two hits. Just keep trying. Eventually Boies will die, leaving you free to enter the castle. You'll see Helman is gravely wounded. With his dying breath, he tells you to go meet Marquess Darin of Laus. Eliwood and Hector agree and get moving. If you didn't visit the village in Chapter 13, you should be at Chapter 14. The goal of this chapter is to protect Merlinus for 7 turns. This is another "fog of war" chapter, so Matthew will be useful, as will the Torch you got last Chapter. It's not too difficult if you ask me. I recommend having Guy go southeast to handle the oncoming Brigands in that corner. Have Eliwood, Rebecca, Lowen, Serra, Matthew, Dorcas and Bartre go north while Hector and Oswin go west and then north. Give Marcus the Torch and have him follow the northern group. The enemies will break down the snags in order to reach your group, so be on your guard. Have Marcus go visit the Village in the upper right corner for 5000 Gold. Keep advancing everyone else towards the upper left corner (aside from Guy, who should stay down in the bottom right corner. Have him use Vulneraries if he gets hurt by the Nomad, which is the only thing likely to hit him). Eventually, the enemies will break down the snag in the upper left corner that leads to the bottom left. Kill the enemies that come down, then have Oswin go up and attack Puzon. He is semi-tough, and can easily kill Hector. Oswin should be able to take him out in two attacks with an Iron Lance. Puzon is the only real threat here. Be careful that you don't get too carried away attacking that you leave Merlinus open to being hit by the Nomads. It only takes two arrows to kill him. Also beware of advancing Bartre, Dorcas, or Hector too fast, because there are swordsmen all around. Turn seven will be over before you know it. After the battle, Merlinus thanks you for saving him. After saving Merlinus (or not), Eliwood and Hector continue on to Laus to meet Lord Darin. However, at Laus castle, Ephidel warns Darin about Eliwood's approach. Fearing that he might know their plan and might tell Ostia, Darin sends his son Erik (the same one from Fuuin no Ken) to kill Eliwood's group and prevent them getting past Laus. Erik happily agrees and goes out to meet Eliwood. Hector and Eliwood notice all the preparations for war that are going on in Laus. Marcus informs them that their past "acquaintance", Erik, is coming. Hector, who hates him, leaves. Erik tries to trick Eliwood into telling him if he's going to Ostia, but Eliwood sees through it. Hector comes back and tells Eliwood that Laus troops have them surrounded, and at this point Erik reveals himself and returns back to the castle. An old woman, Hannah, will now join you for no real reason. She has the power to predict the future... Sort of. But she cannot fight. Eliwood lets her join. Finally, it's about time you got into another "real battle". Once again you can choose who to deploy (no limit here, so send out everyone), and switch the formations. Hannah can also give you advice on the upcoming battle, and Marcus can tell you your Tactician data and Rank. Also, if you got Merlinus, he can store up to 100 items, and you can also sell stuff to him. Make sure Serra is in the upper-left corner of the formation screen! It will make recruiting a certain character much easier. Deploy Hector two spaces below her. Place Bartre and Dorcas on the frontlines, and keep Marcus in the back. Guy and Matthew should be placed towards the bottom. Once the battle starts, Merlinus asks whether or not you want to deploy him. Deploying him on the map allows you to give him extra items to store. However, he is vulnerable to being attacked. He will grow a level for each Chapter he survives. Marcus will ramble on to you about something, and in a nearby village, Erk talks with a villager who refuses him assistance. Erk then leaves. Have Hector kill the Soldier that is close to Serra. Then have Serra move as close as she can towards Erk. She'll have to speak to him if you want him to join. Have Bartre and Dorcas go southwest, but try to keep them out of the range of as many enemies as possible. Have the remaining characters attack the two Cavaliers at the back of your army. Marcus should guard Merlinus. Also have him visit the two houses, as they give some important information on a girl trapped in the southern village... On turn 2, that girl speaks to one of the men in the village. They say they will never give in to Darin and that she is safe in the village. However, that's not entirely true, as in a few turns enemies will try to burn it down! Go have a character save it ASAP. Meanwhile, Serra should talk to Erk and convert him. His Goddess Icon permanently raises Luck by 2. I say give it to Oswin, but if you're going to use Bartre, I'd give it to him. Other good candidates are Hector and Lowen. Simply keep pressing onward. When Pirates start advancing on the mainland, send down Matthew and Guy to meet them. Hector and Oswin should be able to go west from where Erk joined. Have everyone else just go across the middle. Also, eventually Brigands will pour down from the mountains in the northwest. On enemy turn 4, Erik will request reinforcements from his father. However, Ephidel decides to leave after seeing that Darin is going to lose. Darin asks him for one more chance, and Ephidel makes him an offer; stay here and die, or abandon his son and kingdom and then rule over all of Lycia. Darin decides to join Ephidel, and leaves Erik to his fate. On turn 5, it will start raining. This will slow down the enemy Pirates/Brigands and will hopefully buy you enough time to reach them and kill them or save the villages before they destroy them. If Erk goes to the southern village he will get a special conversation with Priscilla, and she will join. She will join anyway if Erk isn't the one that visits it, and you can have them both talk afterwards. The village in the north gives you an Iron Blade, which should be given to Guy. After eliminating the Pirates that are trying to attack the southern village, I would move Guy and Matthew back up to Marcus and Merlinus, as another Pirate will emerge and will try to kill him. You must always have someone ready to protect Merlinus. But don't worry if he dies, as he will just come back next Chapter. Once the clouds clear and the rain stops, there should be few enemies left on the battlefield. However, Erik is easily the toughest of them all. Gah, he just killed my Lowen in one turn with his Silver Spear... Note to you: Don't use Lowen. Hold on, let me get back to where I was... OK, where was I? Oh yeah, the easiest way to take out Erik is by using Hector's Wolf Beil axe. Two turns and he should be out. However, beware, as he almost killed my Hector. Let HIM attack YOU on his turn, and then use a Vulnerary on your turn. He will drop his awesome Silver Spear. Wipe out any remaining enemies (the only Cavalier without a lance is the one south of Erik) and the battle is yours. You capture Erik, and Eliwood questions him about his father, who has mysteriously disappeared. Erik eventually leaks out the whole plot of rebellion. Apparently Darin wanted a rebellion, and surprisingly Santaruz and even Pherae accepted. However, Eliwood's dad got into an argument with Darin and left, never to be seen again. This whole plot of rebellion was introduced by Ephidel, who serves a man named Nergal. Eliwood refuses to believe this, and stays in Laus, searching for Darin. =============================================================================== Chapter 15: Noble Lady of Caelin =============================================================================== Objective: Seize the castle gate. Five days have passed since the subjugation of Laus. Eliwood asks Hector why his brother, Marquess Uther of Ostia, hasn't moved into action yet; Hector explains that it is because of King Desmond, ruler of Bern. Ostia is afraid that if Desmond finds a weak spot in the Lycian border, it will attack at full force. Meanwhile, Marcus alluvasudden barges in and tells Eliwood and Hector that Darin has attacked Caelin, home to Lyndis and Hausen, and has took over the castle! They agree to go out and help them. The scene changes to Lyn's group. She and her followers (Sain, Kent, Florina and Wil) have escaped Caelin in time but Hausen is still inside. Going back to rescue him seems hopeless, as there are Laus soldiers everywhere. However, Kent says that rumors are floating that Eliwood's group is around somewhere. Wil offers to go find them, but Florina would like to go more. She eventually convinces Lyn and gets the job. Bauker, the enemy leader who is in command of the Laus force, orders his bowmen to shoot her out of the skies. She spots Eliwood, but is assaulted by the archers. You will unlock another "anime" scene. She manages to avoid trouble, and Eliwood decides to help out Lyn. Bauker notices Eliwood's group and orders for an attack. You must bench two characters in this Chapter. I recommend sitting out Marcus for the rest of the game, as he is the worst character in the entire game. I would also choose Bartre, but if you're playing through Hector's route I recommend keeping him in. Matthew is also a good candidate for warming up the castle. Erk will talk to you this time when the battle starts. Leave a couple of units to guard Merlinus. I recommend leaving Dorcas, Matthew, and Guy there. Have everyone else advance south. Meanwhile, over at Lyn's group, have Lyn buy a Steel Sword and Kent buy an Iron/Steel Lance. Have Sain and Wil move west, and have the other Caelin guys follow. Let Sain and Kent take care of the two Mercenaries; one drops a Horseslayer. Then quickly Visit the village before the enemy Thief reaches it. You'll get a Heavy Spear. Have Lyn's group go west to meet Eliwood's group. Let Florina get a lot of action over towards the west, as many enemies use swords. Lowen and Oswin will be helpful here too. Remember to take advantage of the forest's evasion and defense bonuses! Save the southwest village for a Red Gem, which you can sell for a bit of money. Have characters that could use weapon upgrades go east to the shops while everyone else heads northeast to the boss. Brigands will eventually show up in the northwest corner and will try to attack Merlinus. However, if you have Matthew or Guy there then they should pose no problem. There are only two Brigands up there, so when they are gone have the guards (aside from Dorcas/Bartre) go south to join the main group. Keep advancing with the main group up towards the boss. Lyn can talk with a ton of people on this map, so try to get all of those conversations as well. Let Oswin take the lead of your army, as most enemies do little or no damage to him. Some enemies will pour out of the two Forts up there but you should be able to handle them. Also, a lone Brigand will appear in the bottom right corner. Have Dorcas, with his Iron Axe equipped, stand on the house right below Merlinus. A total of eight Cavaliers will arrive and try to kill Merlinus, but they all have lances equipped. Chop them up. If Dorcas gets seriously injured, have him use a Vulnerary. Make sure to buy some items for characters, such as a Steel Sword for Guy and a Javelin for Sain. I got Slim Lances for Sain and Lowen as well. Eliwood and Lyn should also have Steel Swords. The boss, despite his high level and stats, isn't tough at all. Just have Hector kill him with the Wolf Beil in one turn. Once you've purchased everything you need, go ahead and have Eliwood conquer Caelin castle. But the battle isn't over yet. Eliwood introduces Hector to Lyn, and Lyn and her squad say hello to you after the battle. In Castle Caelin, Hausen tries to convince Darin to give in to Eliwood. However, Ephidel appears and cuts him down, just like he did to Helman. Darin realizes he has no choice but to keep following Nergal, and leaves Caelin with Ephidel. =============================================================================== Chapter 16: Whereabouts Unknown =============================================================================== Objective: Recommended Deployment: Eliwood*, Rebecca, Dorcas, Hector, Oswin, Matthew, Serra, Erk, Priscilla, Lyn, Kent Difficulty: *** Boss(es): Bernard Enemies: 25 Archer x13 Fighter x1 General x1 Knight x8 Mercenary x1 Shaman x1 Reinforcements? There are apparently some Caelin survivors as well, whom are trapped in jail cells. This battle has a ton of Archers and Knights, so your own Archers and Florina are not recommended for this battle. Bring Matthew and Priscilla, definitely. Erk is recommended to take out the Knights. Also bring an axe user or two (Hector and Dorcas), Oswin, and a Cavalier with the Heavy Spear equipped (my choice: Kent). Lyn should also be brought, after all, she IS trying to save her grandfather. If you didn't already get Merlinus, this is where he will join. To reach Chapter 16x, keep at least one friendly Soldier alive. Once the battle begins, Eliwood tells you to try and save the Caelin soldiers. Have two characters guard Merlinus (Oswin and someone else, preferably someone who can use lances), while everyone else goes straight inside and towards the throne. Kill off the Knights with Erk, Hector, Dorcas, and Kent while you kill Archers with short range attackers (Eliwood, Lyn, Matthew, etc.). On turn 2, a Laus soldier will let a Caelin Mercenary named Raven out of his cell, because he wants to go kill Hector. Lucius tries to prevent him from going, but it's no use. You must quickly get up there, as fast as you can, and have Priscilla talk to Raven. Don't have her dilly-dallying in the back ranks, healing people; keep her up front. Simply keep beating back the Archers/Knights as you progress towards Raven. Some of the Archers are pretty high levels (some are level 7!) and give off some good EXP. Oh yeah, don't forget about the treasures in the bottom left corner. Have Erk draw out the Shaman and kill him, and then lure the Archer inside to the eastern wall and kill him as well. After both are dead, Matthew is free to go inside and open the chests for a Hero Crest and an Unlock Staff. On turn 6 the allied Soldiers will retrieve the weapons they stashed away. Lucius still doesn't want to fight, but they give him weapons and Vulneraries anyway. The Soldiers do want to fight, however, and open the door. YOU MUST QUICKLY HAVE PRISCILLA TALK TO RAVEN. If not, he will kill the Soldiers, which is very bad. It's also around this time that reinforcements will appear for Laus. A total of six Cavaliers will come to attack Merlinus, but Oswin and the other guy should have no problems fending them off. Also, some Shamans will appear near where Raven is. An Archer up towards Raven drops a Door Key, and the Fighter drops a Hammer (useful as hell in this level, due to all the Knights you're about to face). Have Priscilla head straight towards Raven and talk to him. He will join your group, and you will learn a little more about their background. I strongly recommend Rescuing one of the Caelin soldiers, because if all three die, then you won't go to the Gaiden chapter. And believe me, those Shamans can take out those Soldiers very quickly. Also have Raven go over to talk to Lucius so that s/he can join you. Keep heading for the throne. I had Lucius kill all four of the Shamans in the little room, but you can also open the door and storm it if you wish. Kill the two Knights in the upper left corner (the one in the room is easily killed with Erk/Lucius) and have Matthew open the chests for a Silver Sword and a Knight Crest. Now it's time for the throne room. Bait out the Knights with Hector and kill them with whoever. Bernard may seem very hard, but he is easily taken out with the Wolf Beil or Hammer. He is very resistant to magic attacks, so don't waste their durability. After he is dead, seize the throne with Eliwood. Lyn searches for her father, but only finds blood. However, an Ostian spy named Leila emerges. She tells Lyn that Hausen is safe, and talks privately to Eliwood about his father. She explains that the Black Fang is a Bern league of assassins who at one point were chivalrous but now are just common murderers. They are holding Eliwood's father at Valor Isle. She explains that after Brendan Reed, the founder of the Black Fang, got married, a person named Nergal started to take control. Ephidel is merely a servant of Nergal, who manipulated Darin to turn on Ostia, and this resulted in Helman and Elbert joining him. She describes Ephidel as someone who always wears a cloak, but has strange, glowing golden eyes... On the way out, she has a chat with Matthew. Lyn and Hector throw all their support behind Eliwood as he decides to go to this "Dread Isle". Lyn talks with her soldiers, who give her an item depending on how many Soldiers survived (3 = Red Gem, 2 = Light Rune, and 1 = Mine). If you kept at least one of them alive, go to Chapter 16x. Otherwise, go to Chapter 17. =============================================================================== Chapter 16x: The Port of Badon =============================================================================== Objective: Speak to Fargus. If you kept at least one NPC Soldier alive in Chapter 16, then you're in the right place. If all three died, then go to Chapter 17. Eliwood goes to Badon to seek passage to the Dread Isle. However, nobody seems willing to take them there. One man gives a suggestion; Pirates. Eliwood and Hector think about checking this out, but Lyn doesn't want to. Eliwood and Hector go anyway. Fargus, the leader of the pirates, says he's willing to go to Valor if Eliwood pays his 100,000 Gold. However, Eliwood doesn't have that kind of money, so it looks like there is no choice but to go to the arena to earn some. However, Dart, one of the captain's crew, tells Eliwood that if he can beat the pirates and talk to Fargus at the docks, then he'll book passage for free. This can either be an extremely tough or extremely easy chapter. If you want to beat all the pirates head on and then go talk to Fargus, then this will be very, very hard. But you can also just sneak by all the enemies, and only a few will attack you. However, fighting all the enemies has its benefits; an Arena. Arenas allow for unlimited leveling up and money, but it is pretty risky (if a unit dies, they are gone forever). So its up to you (if you are confident, then I recommend going for the Arena). "Beat All The Enemies" Strategy: Deploy Eliwood, Oswin (with the Horseslayer equipped), and... Marcus. Although usually I disapprove of using the purple freak, in this case he is very useful. Make sure he has the Silver Sword and Silver Lance equipped. Also bring Priscilla and/or Serra. (546372) Other than those, it's really up to you. Pick your favorite characters, or characters you want to level up. Using Hector and Lyn is not recommended, because they will be forced to be in your party in later levels, and thus won't need leveling up now. If you must know, my party was Eliwood, Priscilla, Oswin, Marcus, Erk, Kent, Guy, Florina and Raven. But again, I leave the choices to you. MAKE SURE YOU DEPLOY OSWIN IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER. Have Oswin go as far towards the southwest enemies as he can, and make sure he has the Horseslayer equipped. He should be right below a red house. Have three characters go with him. Guy should go north, because a few Pirates will try to come down from there in the northeast corner. Guy alone should be able to handle them all. Marcus and everyone else should go west across the middle village. Move Marcus right outside the enemies' range. Also visit the village to get Canas. On the next turn, have Oswin move left one space. Adjust your formations and end your turn. On enemy turn 2 some reinforcements will arrive, led by the boss of this battle, Damian. He will try to attack Oswin, but if he has the Horseslayer equipped, Damian should be almost dead. Have Oswin finish off Damian when it's your turn again. Now it's time for a good ol' mass slaughter. You must finish off as many units as possible on this turn, or else it's very likely you'll lose someone. I had the three guys I sent with Oswin finish off the two of the Pirates and the Archer. Marcus should attack the Pirate closest to him, and someone else behind him should finish him off. Have everyone else attack the remaining enemies. I got them all killed in a single turn. Hopefully nobody will be killed. After the enemies in the middle and Damian are dead, this battle is cake. Finish off any remaining enemies (don't forget to heal wounded units!) around you. When there are only two enemies left on the map (Dart and Fergus), it's Arena time. First off, don't kill Dart, or else you won't be able to get him later. Don't worry, he won't attack you, even if you accidentally attack him or if you get in his range. Now that I've said that, move everyone to the Arena and start fighting. The Arena is very risky, and I recommend you use extreme caution before you fight a match. USE THE B BUTTON TO QUIT A FIGHT IN PROGRESS. However, note that the match won't end until both units have attacked. There is also another trick to use, which involves resetting. Choose a character and have them enter the Arena. If say Hector is up against a Myrmidon with a Silver Sword, then before you start the battle, reset. Move someone like Oswin in the Arena instead to take out that enemy. This always works. However, if you start the battle, the reset trick won't work. Winning gives you EXP and money (double whatever you paid). Losing makes you lose the character AND your money. However, quitting only makes you lose the money. So it's common sense that, if a character is going to die, that you mash the B button like crazy. I only got four characters to level 20, but it is possible to get all 10 characters (the 9 you deployed and Canas) to that level. Level 20 is the maximum level a unit can reach. Also, since you have a Knight Crest and Hero Crest, you can promote a unit once they reach level 10 (but I recommend waiting until 20). Once they promote, they reset to level 1, but retain their stats and gain new abilities. Here are the people you can promote right now (select 1 from each section): Hero Crest: Knight Crest: Guy Oswin Raven Kent Dorcas Sain Bartre Lowen They are listed in the order which I recommend you promote them. Of course, what I recommend the most is that you make your own choice. Also, if you are playing through Hector's story, I recommend promoting Bartre ASAP, because it will help you recruit a character later on. Once you promote them, you can keep training them until they reach level 20 again! At that point, they will be maxed out for the rest of the game. Of course, this is a very tedious process, and you should expect to quit and use the reset trick often. Because if you don't, you'll have to go through this battle all over again, and that would suck if you've spent hours of leveling like some people do. Once you're done training, visit all the villages for: Lancereaver, Sleep Staff, Short Bow, and a Devil Axe. Then buy whatever you need at the Vendor (you should have plenty of money) and talk to Fargus to end the Chapter. Attack and/or killing Fargus results in a Game Over, so MAKE SURE that you don't hit "Attack" by mistake! (It is the top option on the list) Wouldn't that totally blow if you leveled up everyone to 20 and then attacked him? Of freaking course it would. So carefully make sure you don't. "Be A Sissy" Strategy: This is much easier than the above strategy, but you won't be able to use the Arena. You'll fight as little enemies as possible, and the weakest ones at that. Make sure you deploy Florina, and that's really the only requirement. If you get too close to Fargus' Pirates in the southwest or center of the map, then Fargus will have them attack you. So be careful not to get too close to them. Visiting the two Villages above the central Pirates is too close, and Fargus WILL tell them to attack you if you visit them. First visit the two easternmost villages. You'll get Canas, the only Shaman in the game (and quite possibly the most overrated character in the game), and also a Devil Axe. Visit the Inn for a tip on how to proceed. Leave someone (a Cavalier) one space down and two spaces west of Canas' village (right in front of the yellow house). Move everyone else along the north edge of the level and have them go west. Kill all the easy Pirates you meet along the way. On enemy turn 2, Damian of the Black Fang will arrive. But don't worry, he won't attack you unless you get to close to him/Fargus' Pirates. Just keep moving west along the northern edge, until you get to the Vendor. Go BEHIND the Vendor and move west, and visit the village for a Lancereaver. You should be able to have someone go talk to Fargus, but DON'T DO THIS YET. See the village right above the central Pirates? Move Florina above that village, at the top edge of the screen. The guy on the eastern side of the map should still be near the other village as well. When you're just about done with this battle, have Florina and that other guy visit the two remaining villages. They will get a Sleep Staff and a Short Bow. Of course, Fargus will tell his men to attack you. But it's still your turn, so talk to Fargus in order to end the Chapter. Fargus is pleased with how you progressed and keeps his word to give you passage to the Dread Isle. =============================================================================== Chapter 17: Pirate Ship =============================================================================== Objective: Survive for 11 turns or defeat leader. After Eliwood speaks with Fargus for a bit, Dart tells them that someone has been found adrift in the ocean. The person is none other than Ninian. As Lyn nudges her awake, Dart reports that enemy ships are approaching. They knock a hole in the hull, and water starts flowing in. Eliwood tells Fargus to go take care of the water while he takes care of the enemies. Jake the pirate will tell you about the Vendor and Armory on the deck. This will be the last time you can buy items for a while (until Chapter 20 I think), so make sure you have everything you need! This will be one of the more difficult battles in the game, but it will be much easier if you abused the Arena in 16x. Send out Lucius, Oswin, and Matthew, definitely. Florina will be very useful as well. Other than that, send out whoever you want. Axe users are not recommended here, as well as those with low Resistance. Erk also shouldn't be deployed (Dark > Anima). Have Lucius wait on the top of the "stairs" and have someone else go east across the northern bridge to confront the enemy Mercenaries. Make sure that person can hold out a lot/can take a lot of hits, as my Raven very barely lived from being attacked by all those enemies. Have Florina go west, making sure to keep her out of the range of the Shamans. Everyone else should stay up where Merlinus is, so that they can't get attacked. Basically, my strategy is to just hold out. Lucius should easily take out any Shamans that attack him, and if you have someone like Oswin or Lowen guarding the eastern bridge then those enemies should pose little problems as well. Make sure you look at all their weapons, as some enemies have special ones (for example, one has a Longsword and one has a Armorslayer). When the first enemy wave is about to be crushed, don't be afraid to send in the guys in the back to wipe out the weakened Shamans and Mercs. The enemies drop a lot of items: a Longsword, Guiding Ring, Pure Water, and a Red Gem. Also, Matthew can steal some valuable stuff this chapter. Lots of the enemies only carry Vulneraries or Pure Waters, but the boss has some Speedwings. I'd give them to Oswin, but Dorcas and Bartre are good choices, if you're planning on using them. You can end this Chapter before the limit expires by killing Zoldam. A strong physical attacker with high HP and who can attack twice works best. I don't recommend doing this, though, unless you've fully stocked up on items and are ready for the next chapter. If you do attack Zoldam, then be aware that his Luna spell negates Resistance. Reinforcements will pop up all over the place. Watch the stairs on the left and right ships, as quite a few will come out of there. On turn 7, Zoldam will call for another ship to attack the stern. Even more reinforcements will come (8 total from the south side). Just take them down like you took everyone else down. Their Pegasus Knights fall easily to bows. Once all the enemies are killed, spend the remaining turns shopping. When the 11 turns have passed, Fargus will come up and kill everyone else that's still alive. And your journey to the Dread Isle will finally come to an end. Ninian says that she wishes to go with you. =============================================================================== Chapter 18: The Dread Isle =============================================================================== Objective: Defeat nomad trooper, Uhai. In the Dragon's Gate, Eliwood is being held captive by Nergal. Darin is with him. Nergal tells Ephidel to go with Darin and take out Eliwood, while Limstella goes to contact Sonia in Bern. After this, Ephidel has a run-in with someone, and I'm not going to spoil what happens. Let's just say this is one of the reasons Nintendo refused to publish Fire Emblem games before. Eliwood and company finally reach the island. Fargus sends his "suicide squad" captain Dart to go with you. Meanwhile, after your group finds something on the ground (which again I won't spoil), a Black Fang Nomad named Uhai from Sacae grabs Lyn. He tries to talk you into giving up Ninian and leaving, but Eliwood refuses, and Uhai fights you. To reach Chapter 18x, you must kill Uhai in 15 turns. This will be another fog of war battle, so deploy Matthew, despite what just happened to him. Florina must be deployed if you want one of the best characters in the game. Two Cavaliers should be deployed, as well as Hector, one or two sword wielders, both Priscilla and Serra, and whoever else you want to deploy. Deploy Matthew so that you can see the enemy Thief towards the northeast. Place both of your Cavaliers in the upper right corner. Florina and a sword wielder should be placed in the back, while Hector and another fighter should be up front. Make sure you equip Torches in this battle. Dart will automatically be deployed, and he will talk with you. Meanwhile, if you deployed Matthew, he will talk with Hector (if you didn't send Hector, then he will talk with Eliwood). The very first thing to do is to send the Cavalier that is farthest away from the Pirate to attack him. Make sure he can kill him. Once the Pirate is dead have the other Cavalier attack the Thief. If he
