So,
why did the frog cross the road? To play Frogger of
course! Frogger is definitely one of the pinnacles
of gaming, dare I say, one of the godfathers of gaming
(can't you see Frogger sitting there next to Mario,
Master Chief, Sonic
E.T.). Anyone who is a gamer
has probably played Frogger, or some variation of,
at some point in their lives. Frogger is not just
an immortal checkpoint in arcade graphics, but also
gameplay. And now he's returned to the GameCube in
Frogger: Ancient Shadows.
The
title of Frogger: Ancient Shadows gives one a sort
of Tomb Raider nostalgia, which is strange for a Frogger
game. However, that is sort of the feel of Frogger:
Ancient Shadows. This generation of Frogger steps
away from action adventure and steps into classic
plat forming. You run, jump and slide. You collect
items and even have boss battles. There's definitely
no ingenuity to the gameplay here, so you should expect
anything truly different from former Frogger games.
The
graphics in Frogger: Ancient Shadows are nice for
your typical Nintendo platformer, however with 2 other
titles on the Gamecube already, there are no innovations
in the graphics department. In fact, you can expect
graphics similar to the Conker games that were every
so popular.
Frogger:
Ancient Shadows seems to be just another way for Nintendo
and Konami to milk the franchise. The only real plus
I can see to F:AS is the addition of the original
1981 Frogger. As most of you are aware, $50 is no
price to pay for 24 year old game that you can play
for free on certain websites or emulators. If you
are that big of a Frogger fan, and you enjoy his 3D
adventures, Frogger: Ancient Shadows is definitely
for you.
Features:
- Classic,
addictive "hop and dodge" gameplay
- Up
to four player multiplayer action in mini-games!
- Special
bonus - original 1981 Frogger arcade game, perfect
for retro fans.
- Wide
range of moves - climb walls, double jump, tongue
grab and more
