Legal Stuff =============================================================================== 1. Notes =============================================================================== This is a short little FAQ for the Battlefield 1942 expansion, The Road to Rome. It's only a FAQ for the Road to Rome, and NOT one for the original Battlefield 1942. It just covers what's new in the expansion and nothing from the original. The Road to Rome is an expansion, not a stand alone game. You will need to have the original Battlefield 1942 installed before installing the Road to Rome. If you don't, too bad. =============================================================================== 2. The Maps =============================================================================== This section lists all six of the new maps in the expansion, gives a detailed description of each one, lists how many capturable outposts are on the map, tells you which forces are fighting each other and lists the map type. The map types are as follows: Conquest - Assault: One side controls most, if not all, of the capturable outposts at the start of the map. The side that has to capture them loses tickets until they capture a certain number of the outposts. That team can't make the other team lose tickets by holding outposts unless they have all of them and kill all of that sides players, resulting in an instant victory. Conquest - Head-on: There are two versions of this map type, either its A) Each side starts with half of the outposts on the map, all of which can be captured. One side makes the other lose tickets by controlling more than half of the outposts on the map. If one side controls all of the outposts and kills all of the players on the other side, they instantly win. Or it is B) Each side starts with a main base that can not be captured and has to capture more than half of the outposts on the map to make the other side start to lose tickets. Hybrid Conquest: Each side starts with some outposts that can be captured, but there are also some outposts that start out neutral. When one side has more than half of the outposts the other side will start to lose tickets. If one side holds all of the outposts and kills all of the players on the other side, they will instantly win. ********************************** 2.1 - Italian Maps ********************************** These are three maps that use the Italian forces that can only be used in The Road to Rome. ---------------- Battle for Anzio ---------------- Forces: Italians Vs. Americans Map type: Hybrid Conquest Outposts: 6 Description: On this map the Americans start with two outposts on the southern part of the map, at a dock by a large body of water. A river runs inland, passes the two neutral outposts on either side of it and then curves westward. Further inland are both Italian outposts, on either side of the river. The Italian spawn on the northern side of the river is The Axis Train Station outpost. It is a small railyard with a small airfield, which spawns a medium bomber, to the north of it. Only a jeep and some tanks tank spawn in that railyard. There are a couple of bridges crossing the river and on the other side is the other Italian outpost, The Axis spawn. It is in a small town and spawns a jeep, an APC, artillery and a tank. Floating in the river between the two outposts are two landing craft. Over on the American side, the outpost to the west of the river, The Allied Harbor, spawns a tank, an APC and a jeep. This area has some railroad tracks in it and is filled with crates. Just to the west of it is a small airfield that spawns a medium bomber. There are two bridges that cross the river here and two landing craft spawn in the river. Across the river is The Allied Base. It is in a small town and spawns a jeep, an APC, a tank and artillery. In the northeast corner of the bend in the river is The Radar Bunker outposts. It's on a small hill next to a radar bunker with a couple of machine guns by it for defense. The only other outpost, The Bunker, is at the southwest corner of the river's bend. It is on a small hill with a bunker in the hill behind it and a couple of machine guns for defense. Between those two outposts there is an island in the middle of the river at the bend that has no bridges leading to it. On it there are two flak guns. NOTE: All of the outposts on this map are capturable. ----------------- Operation Baytown ----------------- Forces: Italians Vs. British Map type: Conquest - Head-On Outposts: 6 Description: This map consists of one big hill on a peninsula on the south side of the map where the Italians start, a big hill on the north side of the map where the British spawn and a big body of water dividing them. Both of these hills have a road going up them that runs through the whole map. In the middle of that body of water there is an island that connects the two hills together with a bridge on each side. At the top of each hill is the main base for each team, each one is in a small village with an adjacent airfield that spawns fighters and medium bombers. Tanks spawn inside of each village and each side has a flak gun. Halfway down each hill each team has another outpost next to a building and a flak gun. At the bottom of each hill, by the water, is another outpost. These outposts spawn a tank and two landing craft. Each outpost at the bottom of the hill has a bunker with a machine gun in it a little ways up the hill overlooking the outpost. NOTE: All of the outposts on this map are capturable. --------------- Operation Husky --------------- Forces: Italians Vs. British Map type: Conquest - Assault Outposts: 5 Description: This map is similar to the Omaha Beach map from the original Battlefield in some ways. On the south side of the map is a body of water with a British ship in it. On the land there are some outposts controlled by the Italians. The British can either spawn on their ship and use the landing crafts to get to shore or they can use the paratroopers spawn to parachute to land. The first outpost is on the side of the beach, The Beach outpost. This point starts off neutral and cannot be captured by the Italians. Once the British have it, two tanks, an APC and a flak gun will spawn here. Just past the beach is the first Italian outpost, the First Line of Defense. This outpost has two machine guns facing the beach and one facing inland. A little ways past that is the next Italian outpost, the Second Line of Defense. It has a Defgun facing the water and two machine guns overlooking the beach. Past that there are some sandbags with two machine guns on them facing towards the beach, one facing back and a flak gun. The next outpost, the Third Line of Defense, is a on a small hill between two roads a little ways past that. It spawns some artillery and has one machine gun facing south and one facing north. Between that outpost and then next one there are four machine gun positions. Three face to the south and one to the north. Past those is the next outpost, The Bridge. This outpost is next to a building and spawns a tank. Next to that is a bridge that crosses a river with a machine gun next to it. On the other side of that bridge is the last outpost, The Village. It's in the middle of a village (Duh) and has an airport next to it that spawns a medium bomber. Inside the village there are some machine guns, some jeeps, a tank and an APC. ********************************** 2.2 - French Maps ********************************** These are three maps that use the French forces that can only be used in The Road to Rome. ------------- Monte Cassino ------------- Forces: French Vs. German Map type: Conquest - Assault Outposts: 5 Description: On the southern side of this map there is a hill with some ruins of a monastery on top of it. The French spawn in a base on the north side of the map, across a river. On the hill are five outposts, which the French must capture. The French base at the bottom of the hill spawns some tanks and artillery. There are two roads leading from it that go across bridges and meet at the base of the hill. Not too far up the hill is the first German Pak 40, the next one is right by the first outpost, the First Line of Defense. Further up the hill there is another Pak 40 and then the next outpost, the Second Line of Defense. On the other side of the road from that outpost is another Pak 40. Up the hill from that the road splits to go around where the third outpost is, the Third Line of Defense. This outpost has sandbags in front of it with three machine guns pointing down the hill. Up the hill from here there are two Pak 40s sitting next to each other by where the road comes together. On one side of the road there is artillery and on the other, a tank. Here is the entrance to the ruins of the monastery. The next outpost is on top of the ruins of the monastery, and you can't capture it from the ground. You have to climb up some stairs in the northeastern corner to get up to it. Further into the monastery there are two machine gun positions and then the last outpost. The last outpost, The Monastery, is also on top of the monastery and can't be captured from the ground. The only way to get up to it is to take the stairs in the southeast corner of the monastery ruins. NOTE: The German Pak 40s do not respawn after they have been destroyed. ----------------- Monte Santa Croce ----------------- Forces: French Vs. German Map type: Conquest - Head-On Outposts: 7 Description: On this map both sides have their main base on the north side of the map and these two bases are divided by a river. To the south the river splits apart and between these two rivers is a big hill where all of the outposts on this map are. Each of the main base spawns some jeeps, APCs, tanks, a fighter plane and a medium bomber. There is a road that leads from each base to where the rivers split. Two bridges on each side connect the roads to the hill between the rivers. Between where the two bridges connect to the hill on each side are repairs stations with an outpost next to them. These outposts have a flak gun next to them and spawn a jeep when captured. Between these two repair stations are two more outposts. Each is next to a building and up a small hill. Between those there is a road that leads up the mountain, a flak gun and two Pak 40s that face the roads coming out of the main bases. Near the summit on the back of the mountain there is another outpost on each side. These are near a big supply building and spawn a Pak 40 once captured. At the very top of the mountain is the last outpost, Monte Santa Croce. Once captured this outpost spawns artillery, machine guns and flak guns. ********************************** 2.3 - Other Maps ********************************** This map doesn't use the Italian forces or the French forces and only uses the Americans and Germans, who were in the original Battlefield 1942. ------------------ Battle for Salerno ------------------ Forces: American Vs. German Map type: Conquest Head-On Outposts: 3 Description: In the middle of this map there is a large mountain. This mountain is surrounded by a river that runs through the map, but splits in two to go around the mountain. In the southwest corner of the map is the German main base and the American main base is in the northeast corner. Each base spawns jeeps, APCs, artillery, tanks and fighter planes. Two roads lead out of each base, cross a bridge and start going up the mountain. Part of the way up each side of the mountain is a repair station and an outpost. When you capture the outpost a jeep will spawn at the repair station and some stationary artillery facing the top of the mountain will spawn nearby. At the top of the hill is the last outpost, Hill 424. Once you capture it lots of machine guns, flak guns and pieces of stationary artillery will spawn. NOTE: You cannot spawn at the Hill 424 outpost. =============================================================================== 3. Vehicles =============================================================================== In Road to Rome each side gets four new vehicles to use. One new aircraft, two new tanks and a piece of stationary artillery (Okay, that isn't a vehicle, but it's easier to list it with vehicles). This section will list each one, tell you what type of vehicle it is, tell you how much ammo it has for it's main weapon, tell you how many secondary gunner positions it has, tell how much ammo that the weapon for the secondary gunner position has (If applicable) and give a description of the vehicle. ********************************** 3.1 - Allied Vehicles ********************************** These are the four new vehicles that the Allies get. -------- Mosquito -------- Type: Bomber Gun ammunition: 600 Bombs: 20 (4 at a time) Extra gun positions: None Description: The Mosquito is somewhere between one of the light bombers in Battlefield (SBD, Stuka or AichiVal) and the heavy bombers (B17 and JU88A). It can drop up to four bombs at once, like the heavy bombers (Although they can drop more at once), but it also has a gun, like the light bombers. In addition to that, the Mosquito is also quite fast. -------- M3 Grant -------- Type: Tank Shells: 30 Extra gun positions: 1 (Turret gunner) Secondary gun position ammunition: 400 Description: This tank is unlike any of those in the normal Battlefield 1942. The tank driver can fire the tank's gun, but does not have a machine gun to use in addition to that. The turret gunner in the second position in this tank has a machine gun with a limited range of motion inside an armored turret. ------ M3-GMC ------ Type: Combination tank and APC Shells: 30 Extra gun positions: 1 (Machine gunner) Secondary gun position ammunition: 500 Description: This vehicle is quite different from any other in the game. The driver can use the primary gun, which is just like that of any tank, but there is a machine gunner and a transport position. The machine gunner uses a Browning MG, just like that on an APC, that faces to the back of the vehicle. There is also a spot to transport someone. The sit next to the driver and can't use any weapons. The transport position does not restore health nor resupply ammunition to the person in it, unlike in an APC. ----- AT-25 ----- Type: Stationary artillery Shells: 500 Description: The AT-25 is very similar to the Defgun, except smaller. It has many shells to fire and is used as artillery. It tends to be used against ground forces, unlike the Defgun which is typically used against ships. Instead of there being a large gun on top of a bunker, the AT-25 is just the gun with your soldier sitting in it firing (Like with the flak guns) and can be killed without the gun being destroyed. ********************************** 3.2 - Axis Vehicles ********************************** These are the four new vehicles the Axis gets. ------ BF-110 ------ Type: Bomber Gun ammunition: 600 Bombs: 20 (4 at a time) Extra gun positions: 1 (Tail gunner) Secondary gun position ammunition: 600 Description: The BF-110 is almost exactly the same as the Mosquito. It is a medium bomber that can drop up to four bombs at once, has a gun in addition to those bombs and is fast. The difference is that it also has a tail gunner position. ---------- CA M-11/39 ---------- Type: Tank Shells: 30 Extra gun positions: 1 (Turret gunner) Secondary gun position ammunition: 400 Description: This tank is very small and very fast compared to the other tanks in this game. The driver can fire the tank's main gun but does not have a secondary gun to use. The main gun on the tank also has a limited range of motion to the left and right. The turret gunner in the second position in this tank sits and uses their gun inside of an armored turret on top of the tank. ------------- Sturmgeschutz ------------- Type: Tank Shells: 30 Secondary gun positions: 1 (Machine gunner) Secondary gun ammunition: 500 Description: The first thing you might notice when in this tank is that the gun has a VERY limited range of motion. It can only slightly move to the left and right, most of the time you will have to move the whole tank to get a target that isn't directly in front of you. The second gun position in this tank is a machine gun on top of the the tank. Unlike the tanks that have a machine gun on top of them, this one has some armor around the gun to protect the gunner from the front. ------ Pak 40 ------ Type: Stationary artillery Shells: 500 Description: The Pak 40 is very similar to the Defgun, except smaller. It has many shells to fire and is used as artillery. It tends to be used against ground forces, unlike the Defgun which is typically used against ships. Instead of there being a large gun on top of a bunker, the Pak 40 is just the gun with your soldier sitting in it firing (Like with the flak guns) and can be killed without the gun being destroyed. =============================================================================== 4. Other New Features =============================================================================== These things are what else this expansion added. Just small things, but important. ----------- The Bayonet ----------- Instead of having a knife, engineers on the Road to Rome maps get the bayonet. You can put the bayonet on your rifle by switching to weapon slot 1, where the knife usually is. With the bayonet on your rifle you can stile fire, but you can no longer use secondary fire to zoom. Instead, secondary fire is replaced with using the bayonet. -------------- Medical Crates -------------- Remember those ammo crates in the original Battlefield (Well, the are also still in Road to Rome) that resupplied you with ammo when you were standing next to them? Do you also remember the medical lockers that gave you health by standing next to them? Medical crates combine both of those into a crate similar to the ammo crates that restores your health when you stand near it. Medical crates are white and are usually located near ammo crates. =============================================================================== 5.
