Though, some may not be satisfied watching or checking an online ranking to determine true skill. For them, Dustforce offers players the opportunity to see whose mop-fu is best in online action. Two multiplayer modes are available, called King of the Hill and Survival. Between two and eight players face off, attempting to take control of a select platform for a certain amount of time or force players into spike hazards. While both modes triumph force, finesse is key as well. An agile player can avoid hazards or build up their attack gauge by cleaning surfaces, or dirtying them if they're the Dustwraith, Leafsprite, Trashking or Slimeboss.
It's a thinking man's platformer, to be sure. Be it in the single player or multiplayer levels, a good player knows how to take advantage of his surroundings and play to character strengths. There's a beauty in this, and replays become about more than just getting an SS grade in both Completion and Finesse. It becomes about getting the most out of every character in every situation.
The one lament is that Dustforce isn't a part of the cross-buy promotion. It offers cross-save and cross-play compatibility, meaning you can share one save file with both systems and be facing handheld and console opponents when online. Yet, someone must double dip if they actually want both versions, and that seems like such a shame.
Still, it's hard to hold that against Dustforce. Especially since the console release is quite sublime. The controls are perfect, offering no faltering moments. The multiplayer allows players online to come together for matches, regardless of platform. Everything is perfect and tight, and people can savor the experience however they'd like. That, combined with the promise of three DLC packs, makes this version of Dustforce the best.
