This is my FAQ for NASCAR Heat on PSOne. Please keep in mind that this is not compatible with NASCAR Heat 2002 on PS2/X-Box. Like I said in the heading of the section, I have everything completed on my game, just not in the FAQ, so if you need help with a challenge not covered in here yet, feel free to e-mail me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Tracks I am pretty sure that this game has all of them that they raced on in the 1999 season except Indianapolis and Pocono. Atlanta Bristol* California Darlington Daytona* Dover Homestead Las Vegas Lowe's (Charlotte)* Martinsville Michigan New Hampshire North Carolina (Rockingham) Phoenix Richmond* Sear's Point Talladega Texas Watkin's Glen * = Night time track included. NOTE: All tracks have a day time track except Richmond. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Beat The Heat Strategy This section will go through challenge by challenge and give you a few tips for each to complete it. I have completed every BTH challenge except for the last one, The Elusive Eighth II in the bonus set. So, here we go... 1. Super Speedway Set 1. First Turn: You have to get through turns 3 and 4 at Daytona at a fast speed. Don't get the car on the apron, or jerk the car down the track, but you want to stat near the bottom of the track. Ease the car through the turns. By ease, don't old the left button in, but keep tapping it. 2. Multiple Bends: Same thing as 'First Turn', but at Talladega and has a few more turns. Just do the same things...ease the car through, don't go on the apron, etc. 3. First Challengers: You have to draft the third place car to get up to him and get around him. 4. Draft to Pass: Like 'First Challengers' and the hint on the game, you have to draft the third place car. 5. Proving Grounds: Once again, draft the other cars. 6. Daytona: You need to block other cars, but not bump them to keep them from passing. Go into the turns at the bottom and if a car looks like it is going to pass up high, move him in front of them. 2. Speedway Set 1. Getting Off The Gas: Be careful when getting back on the gas. I noticed that if you do it at the wrong time (at any track), the car will fish tail and usually spin. Even if you don't spin, it will slow you down enough to cause you to do this. 2. Around The Egg: Just like the last challenge, but you're at Darlington. You may not even need to get off the gas. 3. Split The Middle: You need at least 6 positions in two laps, which shouldn't be too hard. If you're having trouble, use your bumper a bit. 4. Pass or Be Passed: Even if Earnhardt gets around you, which probably will happen, you should have enough time to pass two other drivers. 5. Pile Up: You'll probably drop your jaw when you see you need 12 positions in one lap, but it's not hard because all the cars are bunched up. Get a good run off turn two onto the backstretch and go to the inside. You'll probably make up most of the positions there. 6. Worst to First: This one isn't hard, either. You have to average a gain of about a position a lap, which isn't much at all. Plus, like it says in the description on the game, you just got fresh tires and are a bit faster than everyone else. 3. Short Course Set 1. Go Slow 2. Hot Lap 3. Bruiser at Bristol 4. Trouble Ahead 5. The Masters 6. Block Baby Block 4. Advanced Techniques Set 1. Drafting 2. The 'Right' Way 3. The 'S' Curve 4. The 'U' Turn 5. Pit Stop 6. Mr. Consistency 5. NASCAR Race Set 1. Atlanta 2. North Carolina 3. Richmond 4. Bristol 5. Sear's Point 6. Daytona 6. High Octane Set 1. Splash N Go 2. Easy Does It 3. Champion 4. Dodge and Weave 5. Texas Style 6. Father vs. Son 7. Bonus Set 1. The Elusive 8th 2. The Elusive 8th II ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Race The Pro Lap Times This is how this section will work. I will play the game in this mode and whenever I 'Race The Pro' and win (getting a checkered flag), I'll post the lap time that beat him. This will be accurate, as it's always the same lap time that the pro runs. And here's a tip: If you're having trouble at a certain track, use this mode, look for the best driver at this track, and follow him around in the same racing line. Watch how he enters the corner, where he slows down (to pick out braking points), etc. Driver Track My Lap Time ------ ----- ----------- Dale Earnhardt Daytona 00:47.48 Homestead 00:32.35 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Atlanta 00:31.80 Daytona 00:47.71 Bobby Labonte Atlanta 00:31.08 Bristol 00:14.95 North Carolina 00:22.95 Chad Little California 00:40.65 Daytona 00:47.60 Sterling Marlin Daytona 00:48.20 North Carolina 00:23.83 Joe Nemechek Daytona 00:47.76 Watkins Glen 01:10.81 Bristol 00:15.25 Steve Park Dover 00:23.86 Richmond 00:20.70 New Hampshire 00:26.08 Ken Schrader Bristol 00:15.00 Las Vegas 00:31.23 Kenny Wallace Lowe's 00:30.60 Watkins Glen 01:07.63 Sear's Point 01:03.68 Rusty Wallace Lowe's 00:30.46 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Car Setups This is what I did for this section. I played around with the setup options in the garage area and, driving the line you'd see the real drivers run most of the time, took the setup that got the fastest lap time without bouncing off the walls for speed or whatever. If I don't have a setup for a particular track yet, look for a setup for a simular track and use it. (Example: You need a setup for California and I don't have one, use one for Michigan, since both are 2 mile speedways.) PHOENIX ------- Front Left Shocks: Soft Front Right Shocks: Soft Rear Right Shocks: Medium Rear Left Shocks: Medium Gearbox: Automatic Gear Ratio: Fast Acc Front Brakes: Medium Rear Brakes: Medium ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. FAQ Q. Is there anything you can unlock in the game? A. I have not come across or heard of anything. Q. In 'Race The Pro' mode, I know that the checkered flag means that I beat that track for that driver, but what does the red flag mean? A. The red flag means you attempted to do that track with that driver, but you were unsuccessful. If you have a question, go to my contributor recognition page (link at top of FAQ) and e-mail it to me. If I get the same question asked repeatedly, I'll put it in this guide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII.Closing Places That My Host This FAQ...
