Armored Core Review

By: E.M. Vazquez

Are you looking for something new? Sure, you've seen "Mech battle" games before but they've always seem lame or move very sluggishly so you've always stayed away from those types of games? Well, fear no more, cause THE best 'Mech game to ever be released on any home system ever! In Armored Core you are invited to join a mercenary group called "Raven's Nest" who will supply you with Mission job descriptions and cash rewards for successful completion of said missions. With the money you earn during your battles you can go to the "SHOP" section of the game and upgrade your 'Mech with new parts or weapons. Armored Core boast over 300,000 possible weapon and armor combinations!

The gameplay is lighting fast (not slow and sluggish like Activisions Mechwarrior 2 game) no matter if your running, sliding or flying all the while unloading lethal attacks upon the enemy in every direction. There are a total of 45 missions that vary from city street to underground caverns and sometimes you'll find yourself either trying to kill another Mech warrior or being set up by one. The game follows two story lines (depending on your course action and the mission you select) and if you pay attention you'll find a secret way to upgrade your Mech with special "abilities".

Armored Core also gives you creative control as far as the color and enblem style that your 'Mech sports as you go into battle. If you have a little talent, you can have yourself one great looking Mech! Yet, by far, the best option is the is the two-player split screen option so you and a friend can duke it out in five arena's made just for that purpose. Or if you've got a "LinbkCable" you can duke it out in a DOOM Deathmatch style of bout. Now if you and your friend already have Mechs that you've built already saved on your memory card, you can download your own special Mech and do some high profile ass whupping! The replay value of this feature is very high as you and your friend create different Mech's to pound the crap out of one another.

The bottom line is this: If your looking for a game that's fast, fun, and extremely addictive then Armored Core is the game for you. It combines fast paced action filled mission with just enough strategy to keep it hard enough for you to keep playing but to the point of being totally frustrated. Some missions even have multiple paths to your mission ojective. Armored Core is a great game and every action fan will be sure to love!
