Army
Men: Air Attack on the PlayStation was the only Army
Men title worth playing and the tradition continues
on the PS2. 3DO just slammed out three army men titles
and you guessed it, Army Men Air Attack 2 is the only
looker out of the trio. Of course, this is really
just an update of the PlayStation's Air Attack 2 rather
than an "All New All Fresh" Sequel, but it will definitely
do for now. If you've ever played the old Strike series
(Soviet Strike, Jungle Strike etc) you'll know what
to expect from this one. The Strike series were classics
and Air Attack 2 builds on that genre, providing an
intense action packed game that has been seriously
absent on any of the 128 bit machines. The overhead
perspective brings back memories of well, just blowing
stuff up and if you are a fan of the series (and I'm
assuming from the amount of Army Men games that 3DO
is releasing that there are a ton) you'll love the
real-world environments and objects that you must
use to squash the evil tan army.

"This
is the best Army Men game to date."

Graphically
the game is impressive, with large environments, tons
of things on screen at once and a framerate that really
holds water. Whatever that means. Even in two player
mode the framerate doesn't falter. I love that aspect.
The game has enough levels to satisfy even the jaded
gamer and will provide days and weeks of gameplay
for the casual player. Considering the game is based
on the series, you will see some familiar faces from
other Army Men games which will go along way for fans.
This
is the best Army Men game to date. If you're wondering
what game to buy out of the recently released trio,
do yourself a favor and at least try this one, even
if it doesn't seem like your cup of tea. I'm betting
that once you hunker down with this one (or bring
a friend along for the ride) you will be seriously
addicted to the delicious kaboomery that engulfs every
second of this game. Highly recommended.
