Those
two lovable vikings ripped from the pages of newspaper
comic strips from around the world are once again
returning to your TV. Publisher Atari is calling Mission
Las Vegum the industry's first videogame parody as
the game will poke fun at a heaping helping of vid
icons.
The
game takes place in a huge city-sized theme park created
by Julius Caesar himself called Las Vegum. Within
the confines of the park you'll visit areas such as
Little Paris, WCW, LuckSore, Little Venetia, Pirate
Island, and even SeizeUs Palace.
This
time during their adventure Asterix and Obelix will
require the help of a few oddball characters to rid
the city of Romans, namely centurion Larry Croft and
a certain repentant Roman spy with inside knowledge
of new-fangled techniques named Sam Shieffer.
"Asterix
and Obelix are global icons on a scale that many of
today's so-called celebrities can only dream about,
and the time has come to share the massive French
success of the Asterix & Obelix video game franchise
with the rest of Europe," said Cyril Voiron,
Marketing Director, Atari Europe. "This is the
first game of its kind a wildly entertaining
spoof packed with a whole host of familiar faces players
won't have too much trouble recognising."
Unfortunately
the bad news right now is there are no plans to release
Mission Las Vegum outside of Europe, since the first
game didn't do all that wonderfully in North America.
We're betting gamers would enjoy a game that pokes
fun at their favorite hobby, but we're not going to
be foolish enough to suggest that tons of gamers would
buy it. You gamer types are a very fickle bunch.
We've
posted a batch of pix for you to look over to see
if you can spot all of the gaming references. Use
your mouse under the screenshot to select the invisible
text and see if you've discovered all of the gags.
