It's time for me to return to writing FAQs for a while. With the help of Trung Nguyen (aka Nguyen Tran Trung), we decide to make a FAQ/Walkthrough for our beloved game, Devil May Cry 2. When the first Devil May Cry was released, I was curious to know it. I wondered how good it was so that it was chosen to replaced the precious position of Resident Evil 4 on Playstation2, as I had been a dedicating fan of Resident Evil series. I did hate it, but I was eager to play it to know its taste. Oh God ! I was extremely attracted, and it was time for me to be excited with another great game. Devil May Cry became my most favourite game since then, and I thought I would be stuck to this series. The game was so short, and it was a real pain to wait for its sequel : Devil May Cry 2 to come out... ...Now I'm having the game. Before purchasing this game, I was a lot worried. The gaming specialists have had bad words about the game, as it was claimed to be a big disappointment. Not only did the specialists, but the players as well. Devil May Cry receives such bad scores compared to other popular games. I just couldn't believe ! Devil May Cry was so good, how could this happen to Devil May Cry 2 ? Whatever, I still managed to buy the game at all cost. I began to play... Then, I did make a big sigh ! The game was still good, as good as its former, as good as what I thought. This must be my own opinions, since many other players have criticized it very badly. But it's all okay, since it satisfies us, me and Trung Nguyen. For Trung Nguyen, it's even better and more fun than Devil May Cry. No matter what people talk about this game, we still love it and try to drill the game at all cost. Just like Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 is a Stylish Action Game, with the fairly similar style, except some changes of equipment kinds and Battle System... Here I make FULL FAQ/WALKTHROUGH, it undoubtedly has a lot of SPOILERs, especially for those who are new to this game. So don't use the guide unless you really need help, if you don't want your game to be spoiled. ... Well, you'll find out more about this game once you play it. That's all I can say here. I have to step to the next section soon. ~~~/\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/\~~~ <<( )<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<( )<< )( )( ( ) SECTION 2 : LEGAL INFO ( ) )( )( >>( )>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>( )>> ~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~ I put this part in the first after Introduction for that people can see and read it easily. But in Devil May Cry 2, you are also allowed to use the Directional Buttons to do this. But I suggest it's better to perform with the Left Analog Stick, if you love creating techniques and some special actions. Besides, it's good for those who have been used to playing Devil May Cry. *LEFT ANALOG STICK* - Move to the left : Go to the left (of current screen) - Move to the right : Go to the right (of current screen) - Move up : Go to the north (of current screen) - Move down : Go to the south (of current screen) *DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS* - Left button : Go to the left (of current screen) - Right button : Go to the right (of current screen) - Up button : Go to the north (of current screen) - Down button : Go to the south (of current screen) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PLAYING BUTTONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Triangle button : Attack Circle button : OK/Enter doors Cross button : Jump Square : Shoot/Throw daggers R1 trigger : Draw/Prepare/Lock on auto-aim R2 trigger : Turn of auto-aim L1 trigger : Switch to Devil Trigger Mode L2 trigger : Switch long-ranged weapons L3 button : Switch target Start button : Open Subscreen/Skip scenes Select button : Status Screen/Reset ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ STATUS SCREEN CONTROL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Directional buttons : Move the highlight to wanted choices. Triangle button : Back/Cancel Circle button : Enter command Cross button : Cancel command Square button : N/A ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UNDER WATER CONTROL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Available for Lucia and Trish. Triangle button : Attack Square button : Shoot Circle button : Swim down Cross button : Float up ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AIR CONTROL (AERIAL HEART EQUIPPED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Triangle button : Attack Square button : Shoot/throw knives Circle button : Slightly drop down Cross button : Fly up ************************************************************************** %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% THE ORBS %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% ************************************************************************** Like Devil May Cry, there are various kinds of orbs which you can find during the game. They are very important to your playing, except you don't know what they're used for. - You can find them along your way. - You can destroy the objects which seems to separate from the wall, some orbs may be revealed. - Buy them at Statues of Time, except Red Orbs, Green Orbs and White Orbs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RED ORBS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You find most of this thing in the game. In the other hand, just understand it to be your "money". You use them at the Statues of Time to power up your equipments and buy stuffs. Each of the things costs a certain number of Red Orbs. You need to have enough Red Orbs to buy one. Red Orbs are everywhere in the game and easy to find. Sometimes Red Orbs can be used to unlock the magically sealed doors. These doors need a certain number of Red Orbs to be opened. Some Red Orbs are stored in the red heads around in the game. By hitting them strongly and fast before it stops glowing, you'll get tons of Red Orbs dropped. [RED HEADS] are the things that contain tons of the Red Orbs for you to get. In order to obtain the most Red Orbs, you'll have to strike the Orbs QUICKLY, CORRECTLY and CONTINUOUSLY, before it stops glowing. Once it stops glowing, there's no more orb dropped. Red Orbs can also be got from the enemies you killed. If you use manual weapons to kill them, it will give you more orbs than killing by long-ranged weapons. Besides, the number of Red Orbs dropped by enemies depending on your "Stylish Average". If you wonder about what it is, refer to "Rankings" part in this section. Random Red Orbs have many sizes : - Small : 1-5 orbs - Medium : 10-30 orbs - Large : above 30 - Largest : can reach 100. You mostly find these after beating strong enemies, bosses, or by getting "Are you Ready ?" or "Showtime" of "Stylish Average". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GOLD ORBS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gold Orbs stands for your life, similar to Yellow Orbs in Devil May Cry. Once you get killed during the game, with a Gold Orb stored in your inventory, your character will be automatically revived with full life bar and DT gauge. But in Devil May Cry 2, you have to accept these differences : - You are allowed to store ONLY ONCE Gold Orb until you use it. - In Devil May Cry, once a Yellow Orb is used, you are revived, but you have to restart at the nearest place. But in Devil May Cry 2, when a Gold Orb used, you are revived directly at that battle and you can continue your progress as usual. This is really easier than Devil May Cry. Gold Orbs can be found along your journey, some of them are in hidden places. In the Statue of Time, each Gold Orb costs 10000. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GREEN ORBS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, these things are used for quick healing. They are not present randomly in the game. When you get damage while fighting enemies, some of them will drop Green Orbs to heal you. Depending on your damage, the Green Orbs also have many sizes. Green Orbs can be found on the way, or dropped by enemies. - Small : heal a little of HP - Medium : heal more than Small size - Large : a full lifebar or more * If you grab Green Orbs when your lifebar has already been COMPLETELY healed. Then the Green Orbs will have the same value as Red Orbs. They are added to your Red Orb store. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHITE ORBS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, this is the new thing in Devil May Cry 2. It looks like an eyeball, used to heal your Devil Trigger Gauge FULLY. But what a pity ! This is a random item dropped by the enemies. Once you grab it, it is soon automaticalled used for your current Devil Trigger Gauge, as it can't be stored in inventory. This is mostly found after you beat a Secret Room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BLUE ORBS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's about your MAX lifebar. When you get a FULL Blue Orb, your MAX lifebar will be increased a little with health fully restored, that means you become stronger. But in the game, you mostly find fragments of them. Four pieces make a full Blue Orb. Or you can buy a limited number of full Blue Orbs from the Statues of Time. Full Blue Orbs can be found around in the game, or bought from the Statue of Time. Blue Orb Fragments are around in the game, or can be found in certain Secret Rooms. Price : 5000-10000-15000-20000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PURPLE ORBS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the only type of orbs which you can't find in anywhere else out of the Statues of Time. You purchase them, and each of them increases your Devil Trigger Gauge, as your transformation can last longer. The Red Orbs cost increase each time you get one. - Price : 6000-10000-15000-20000-30000 ************************************************************************** %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% BATTLE SYSTEM & ACTIONS %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% ************************************************************************** ================================================== BATTLE SYSTEM & STRATEGIES ================================================== The Battle System in Devil May Cry 2 is similar to the first one, except some differences about moves. The characters' main weapons are manual ones, known as swords. These are your most frequent and powerful weapons you have to use during the game. Your next weapons are Guns (Dante and Trish) and Arsenals (Lucia). These are known as long-ranged weapons which help you to damage the enemies without getting closed to them. But as a result of this, long-ranged weapons don't help raising your "Stylish Average" and they are weaker than Swords. Along with normal form, all of your characters have "Devil Trigger Form", which will be explained soon. As Devil May Cry 2 has more characters than the first one, and each of them has unique techniques, so now I can't write all the moves in this section. You should refer to the "Characters & Move List" section to know their unique moves. Here I list the basic moves, which all characters must have. ================================================== BASIC ACTION LIST ================================================== --------------------------- KICK JUMP --------------------------- Perform : Jump + Jump (with base) Weapon : None This may be one of the most important actions, especially for you to find hidden items and orbs. If you just press the Jump button once, the characters just jump and then land. If you press twice, he/she will make another jump next to it, reaching a higher distance. This is an important action for you to find hidden items. --------------------------- AIR HIKE --------------------------- Perform : Jump + Jump (without base) Weapon : None In DMC, Air Hike is a useful move that costs a pretty big amount of Red Orbs to be bought from the Statue of Time. But in DMC2, it has considered one of the characters' default actions. That means you can do it anytime and anywhere, as a normal move. As you knew, this move is similar to Kick Jump, but without base. This is a very useful move to be used in aerial battles against flying enemies. Performing Air Hike with shooting is a good attack that helps you to attack the aerial enemies. With Trish, there's always an unreal base shown in the air whenever she air- hikes. Due to my experience, Trish's kick-jumping and air-hiking are lower than Dante's and Lucia's. --------------------------- FLIP ESCAPE --------------------------- Perform : Circle Weapon : None In fact, this is known as Roll action in DMC1. Rolling can be understood as dodging. If you just simply press Circle button, the character usually rolls forward. If you move the Analog Stick to various directions, your character can create various dodging poses to the direction you want. Of course, rolling helps you to avoid the enemies' hits in quick situations. Try to master this action as much as you can. It's pretty important to play with active enemies. *VARIOUS DODGING POSES : 1) Circle (+ Move the Left Analog stick forward) : - Dante/Trish/Lucia will roll forward. 2) Circle + Move the Left Analog Stick to left/right : - Dante/Trish will make a somersault move to left/right. - Lucia makes a 180-degree rotation to left/right. 3) Circle + Move the Left Analog stick backward : - Dante/Trish/Lucia somersaults backward. ---------------------------- WALL JUMP ---------------------------- Perform : Circle button. This is a completely new move in DMC2. The character climbs on the wall then jump down at a certain height. This move is not as necessary in battle as Kick Jump and Air Hike, but you can use it for fun. Alternate Forms : (1) While running forward beside a wall, as your Left Analog is being moved forward, press the Circle button. The character will run forward for a line on the wall and then make jump down. During this jump, you can have the character shoot or slash down. (2) As you are jumping down from the wall, have the character shoot by pressing Square button or slash by pressing Triangle button. They will shoot down while dropping. This shooting trick can be done the same with the first alternate form. (3) As you are jumping down from the wall, you suddenly change your mind that you don't want to drop at that position. Let's press the X button again QUICKLY : Your character will fly back to the wall while in the air. Looks great ? ------------------------------------- DEVIL TRIGGER MODE (DT MODE) ------------------------------------- Button : L1 trigger Well, you have been familiar with this in DMC1. In DMC2, your Devil Trigger Gauge is shown under the lifebar. Its colour depends on which elemental Heart you are using : Red for Flame Heart, Yellow for Electro Heart and Blue for Frost Heart. In order to fill your Devil Trigger Gauge, just damage the enemies. Using manual weapons to kill the enemies gain more Devil Trigger than using firearms. Once your DT Gauge is filled enough, just press L1 to Devil Trigger. Then if you want to turn it off, press L1 again. Your Devil Trigger form will automatically turn off once the gauge runs out. After that, you have to beat the enemies to gain Devil Trigger if you want to transform. Unlike DMC, each character has only one Devil Trigger form. This is a speciality for those characters who have demon blood within their body, and your three characters in the game are some of those : *Dante's Devil Trigger : He transforms into a red demon with huge wings and great strength. *Lucia's Devil Trigger : She transforms into a white harpy pixie who is fast and flexible. *Trish's Devil Trigger : Some yellow lightings appear and cover Trish, while she herself doesn't mutate. If you have played DMC, you will be familiar with this scene. Generally, DT mode gives you these benefits : - Your characters are stronger, their techniques are modified to be more fatal. - Their speed is a little faster (and you can grow even faster with Quick Heart equipped). - Your lifebar is gradually healed (and you can make this task even faster with Healing Heart equipped). **DANTE'S DESPERATE DEVIL TRIGGER (DDT) FORM** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, I just don't pay attention to this special thing with Trish and Lucia. But Dante really has this. During the battle, if you have Dante DT when his lifebar is red (going to run out), he will transform into this "chubby" cool-looking demon which looks similar to his father Sparda. This "Demon Dante" looks greater and he's much stronger than normal DT, with some skills altered to be deadlier. *************************************************************************** %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% DIFFICULTIES %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% *************************************************************************** Just like DMC, DMC2 has many difficulties for the players to choose after beating the game once. ======================\ NORMAL MODE \ =========================================================================== Unlock : Default Mode Description : This mode is default as you start the game the first time. It's neither so hard nor so easy. But it's decent enough for the players to pass it. Compared to DMC, DMC2 is much easier. For Normal Mode of DMC2, the enemies are mostly slow and their attacks are simple. Weak enemies don't even do anything on you instead of going around (while Normal Mode in DMC can be a real nightmare for newbies). Bosses' attacks are simple and not as deadly as they should be. Some of them are just pieces of cakes regardless you are a newbie. The Secret Rooms in Normal Mode are easy to beat though, most of your rivals here are normal enemies which have been very familiar to you during the game. Generally, if you are an average player or better, you can pass the game of this mode without so many difficulties. ======================\ HARD MODE \ =========================================================================== Unlock : Beat both Dante's and Lucia's scenario in Normal Mode. Description : This mode begins to be annoying. The enemies' and bosses' life is stronger, as your characters are weaker. They are not so dreaming as they were in Normal Mode, they began to cast real attacks. For example : The Msiras in Normal Mode often wander around you more than they hit you; but now in Hard, they begin to bind you and come to scratch you like hell when you have to beat groups of them. They can even dodge your attacks. Some enemies get new attacks too. For example : The Terreofinises are nothing in Normal, but in Hard, they have the Spinning Attack that can deal great damage on you and stun you, so does some other enemies. Especially, the bosses begin to show themselves, and their attacks are more complicated and harder to dodge. Secret Rooms are much more harder than Normal Mode with bosses within. =====================\ MUST DIE MODE \ =========================================================================== Unlock : Beat both Dante's and Lucia's scenario in Hard Mode. Description : This must be the true nightmare, but fortunately, it's easier than the "Dante Must Die" mode in DMC. However, it's still extremely challenging. The enemies and bosses are so MUCH MORE stronger that even some of your characters' attacks deal no damage on them. Just like Hard Mode, they get more attacks and more "experiences" to fight you, and they have their own Devil Trigger which make them nearly invincible. In Must Die Mode, it seems that you have to DT all the time to keep your characters alive. Bosses' attacks are even deadlier than Hard Mode. Secret Rooms here are more difficult than Hard Mode :( *************************************************************************** %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% RANKINGS %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% *************************************************************************** Just like DMC, the ranking system is still preserved in DMC2. But in my own opinion, I think it's more difficult to get high ranks in DMC2. DMC2 ranking system is calculated on these standards for EACH MISSION : 1. Clear Time The time it takes you to complete the mission. 2. Orbs The amount of Red Orbs you collect during the mission. 3. Stylish Average Your talent of damaging the enemies. The ranks of Stylish Average are shown directly on the screen while you're fighting. The more damage you deal on enemies, the better your Stylish Average is. This is only gained when you keep your damaging CONTINUOUSLY. Once the current rank on the screen disappears after a while you don't do anymore damage, you have to redo everything. Unlike DMC, these are the ranks of Stylish Average : - Don't Worry (D rank - Yellow) - Come on ! (C rank - Dark Yellow) - Bingo (B rank - Orange) - Are you Ready ? (A rank - Dark Orange) - Showtime (S rank - Red) Especially in Hard and Must Die mode, Stylish Average can be gained by avoiding the enemies' attacks. The stronger and deadlier attacks you dodge, the more you gain Stylish Average. *For those who haven't played DMC yet, these are the ones in DMC : - Dull (D rank - Light Yellow) - Cool (C rank - Green Yellow) - Bravo (B rank - Green) - Awesome/Absolute (A rank - Violet) - Stylish (S rank - Red) 4. Damage The damage you get during the mission. The less damage you get, the higher rank you receive. 5. Item Used The number and value of the items you use during the mission. The less items you use, the higher your rank is. For info on how to get S rank for each mission, you can refer to Kouli's S- Rank Requirement FAQ in www.gamefaqs.com. ~~~/\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/\~~~ <<( )<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<( )<< )( )( ( ) SECTION 5 : CHARACTERS & THEIR MOVE LIST ( ) )( )( >>( )>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>( )>> ~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~ =========================================================================== DANTE - THE ULTIMATE DEVIL HUNTER =========================================================================== GENDER : Male WEAPONS : Swords (Rebellion/Force Edge, Vendetta, Merciless), Guns (Ebony&Ivory, Submachine Gun, Shotgun, Missile Launcher). JOB : Devil Hunter - demon investigator who is the owner of Devil "Never" Cry agency. Also the descendant of Legendary Dark Knight Sparda. FAMILY : Legendary Dark Knight Sparda (father), Eva (mother), Vergil (twin brother). They have all died because of evil demons. Background : - Devil May Cry : Dante is the freelance task-taker in modern underworld. However, he has another occupation more extraordinary. With deadly swing of huge magic sword, and with the enchanted barrage from big double handguns, he slays blood thirst demons from the depth of burning Hell. Begging mercy of him, even a devil may cry. That's the hidden, true identity of Dante. *Well, in DMC1, he met a mysterious black woman named Trish. And this woman led him to Mallet Island, the Infernal Gate. Here Dante faced his fate and had to fight the enemies who had made him lose his family... - Devil May Cry 2 : This trash-talking, cool-as-ice demon slayer attacks using both his long sword and his trusty revolvers. Possessing both street smarts and the strength of even the strongest demons, Dante can jump long distances, perform acrobatic double jumps and bound off walls to get where he needs to go... He has grown quieter and more experienced from Devil May Cry. He is no more a joking fighter. He receives invitation from Lucia's mother to do some important missions. And that's where he begins... **MY TAKE ON DANTE : For me, Dante is the most moderated character to be used. His speed is regular, NOT as slow as many people think. His combos are performed well, but effective and high-damaging. His rolls are far and easy to perform. Besides, Dante's weapons have fine range, which suit the most enemies. And he is pretty cool with his variety of firearms, as you can easily have your choice in different situations. Dante's DT is truly a big fun, with cool-looking alternate and strong combos. Besides, he has the special Desperate Devil Trigger, which can help you to change your situation in battlefield, which can save your life from coming death. Generally, he's really the best character in this game. But if we criticize on convenience, he can't be as good as Trish, since Trish can use some special DT hits without Desperate DT. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dante's Unique Move List ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --------------- HIGH TIME --------------- Perform : Lock onto a target, then hold the left analog stick backward + Triangle button. Used : Slash an enemy up into the air. Description : Dante waves his sword up, throwing the hit enemy to the air like he does in DMC1. Once your enemy has been flung up, you have a great chance to deal some combos on them until they drop down. But if you are still excited, when the enemies haven't got up yet, High Time them again and keep your joke done :). This attack can be combined with sword combo. --------------- STINGER --------------- Perform : Lock onto a target, then press the left analog stick forward + Triangle button. Used : Powerful thrust unleashed after stepping toward. Description : Dante had this move in DMC1 too. He has his sword moved toward the enemy very far. This attack is not only used to attack the enemy from distance, but very strong as well. Can be combined with sword combos. ------------------ TWO SOME TIME ------------------ Button : Lock onto a target, then press the Left Analog Stick to the approaching enemy + Square button. Used : Simultaneously shoot in different directions. Due to my experience, this special move really works when there's another enemy who instantly appears with your targeted enemy. And it's not easy to do as the game says. The position of these enemies will cause different poses for Dante : a) Dante crosses his arms when the second enemy appears later and close to your targeted enemy. b) Dante has his arms aim at two opposite directions if the second enemy appears on the opposite side of the targeted one, over Dante. c) Dante has one arm shoot the front enemy, the other aim behind to shoot the second enemy. This happens when the second enemy appears at her back. ----------------- RAIN STORM ----------------- Perform : Have Dante kick jump, air-hike or wall jump, then press Shoot button when he reaches the highest limit, Dante will aim down his handguns and shoot (no locking on target). Requirements : only available for Ebony&Ivory handguns. Normal jump doesn't cause this attack though. This move looks cool, but mostly useless and annoying. As I said, when Dante perfotms Rain Storm, the auto-aim system DOESN'T work. That means Dante is shooting crazily toward the ground regardless he shoots accurately or not. It's better for you to use SubMachine Gun (after obtaining it) to avoid this Rain Storm attack (if you dislike it). Well, this attack is available for Dante only. --------------- RAPID FIRE --------------- Button : Lock onto a target, then press the Left Analog Stick + Triangle button while jumping. Used : Kick enemies while jumping low. The game says that this attack is only available for Lucia. But the truth is that Dante can also do it. Dante performs a three-hit combo in the air. The success of this attack all depends on pressing the Left Analog. If you don't press it, Dante just simply slashes down. If you do rightfully, he will make a double kick before slashing. This attack is very useful to cause heavy damage on flying enemies, especially the Goats. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dante's Unique Combo list ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --------------------- DEVIL TACKLE --------------------- *Submitted by Kat Simard. Perform : Hold the Left Analog Stick, then High Time. When Dante reaches the air, press Triangle. Used : Inflict heavy damage on an enemy. Description : This hit is similar to normal High Time, but as you keep the Left Analog Stick backward longer, Dante will jump up to the air after his High Time. And as he is there, if you press Triangle, Dante will slash down as his normal jumping attack. This attack is strong and pretty convenient as it includes High Time, but it's so short for grand battles. --------------------- FOUR-HIT COMBO --------------------- Perform : Simply press Triangle three or four times. Used : Damage the enemies. Description : This is Dante's basic combo in DMC2. As you press Triangle, Dante performs a four-hit combo toward different directions with regular damage, due to a moderated speed. From this one, you can have some alternate combos : - This combo can be used after High Time. You keep damaging your target as they are dropping down. - ENDED WITH HIGH TIME This combo CAN BE ENDED with High Time. Once the enemy is flung up and drops down, if you perform the combo ended with High Time, the enemy continues to be flung up, and you can make joke again and again. Button : Press the Triangle three times as usual. But at the final hit, you MUST have your R1 trigger held and the Left Analog Stick moved BACKWARD. Then your combo will work. - ENDED WITH STINGER Stinger is stronger than any single normal hit. You can end this combo with Stinger which causes bigger damage : BUTTONS : Press the Triangle button three times. But at the final hit, MUST have your R1 trigger held and the Left Analog Stick moved FORWARD. It will work. --------------------- THREE-HIT COMBO --------------------- Perform : Press Triangle three times + Holding R1 at the same time. Used : Damage a large group of enemies (the third slash). Description : This combo can be somehow easier to face than Four-hit Combo, if you like keeping R1 trigger. This combo doesn't look very good about length as well as damage. But you see, its hits, especially the third hit, can touch a group of enemies, even the ones behind you. So this one is completely useful for you to use when fighting crowded enemies. It can save your performing, giving mediocre damage to the foes. *Alternate Forms : - This combo can be used after High Time. Buttons : Press the Triangle three times as usual. --------------------- FIVE-HIT COMBO --------------------- Perform : Hit Triangle three times, then press Triangle the fourth time SIMULTANEOUSLY with moving the Left Analog Stick. Used : flinging up the enemy with great damage. Description : This combo can be considered an alternate High Time, as it can be used to fling up an enemy like that. But besides flinging up, this combo has certain power, and can be used to beat groups of foes. Dante performed the first two hits normally, then he performs the third one like a jump, and he slashes down as the fourth hit. And the final hit is a slashing-up attack which is pretty similar to High Time. *Alternate Forms : - This combo can be used after High Time. You keep damaging your target as they are dropping down. -------------------- SIX-HIT COMBO -------------------- Perform : Press Triangle twice. Then press it three times SIMULTANEOUSLY with moving the Left Analog Stick. Used : Damage group of enemies. Description : This is Dante's strongest combo. It seems to be combined from the advantages of Four-hit Combo and Three-hit Combo. Dante performs the first two hits horizontally toward opposite directions, the second two hits diagonally and then the final two hits are performed as large-ranged attack. *Alternate Forms : - This combo can be used after High Time. You keep damaging your target as they are dropping down. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dante's Devil Trigger Combos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ----------------- KICK COMBO ----------------- In Dante's Devil Trigger mode, if you combine Five-hit Combo buttons, Dante will do a different combo which has stronger power : He performs a combo of heavy sword slashes, then finishes it by a jump kick toward the enemy. ----------------- FATAL BEAMS ----------------- In Dante's Devil Trigger mode, if you combine Six-hit Combo buttons, Dante will do this extremely strong move : He performs two slashes, then after a while of charging, he casts a bunch of beams toward the enemy. These beams deal a very big damage on single enemy : - With Electro Heart equipped, Dante casts straight lightnings. - With Flame Heart equipped, Dante casts throwing flame of heat. - With Frost Heart equipped, Dante casts frozen beams. ------------------------ ROUND TRIP (AERIAL) ------------------------ Perform : Press Triangle button while you are flying in the air. Used : Throw the sword at enemies. Description : Have the Aerial Heart equipped, then DT and fly to the air. You'll be able to do this hit. =========================================================================== LUCIA - THE POWERFUL PROTECTOR WITH MYSTERIOUS PAST =========================================================================== GENDER : Female WEAPONS : Double Short Swords (Cutlaseer, Klyamoor, Rambak), Long-ranged weapons (Throwing daggers, Darts, Cranky Bomb and Bowgun). JOB : Protector of Vie de Marli island. FAMILY : Matier (mother?) BACKGROUND : Lithe, quick and angile, this mysterious, sexy demon fighter will prove that she is a formidable foe. Her first weapons of choice are two ornate crafted curved daggers for attacks of the up-close and personal nature. She moves like a cat and uses throwing knives for long-ranged attacks. When concerned, Lucia will execute her stunning triple wall jump. In the story of the game, Lucia is known as a girl who bears a mysterious past. Nothing is sure if Matier were really her mother. That's what she has to find out during her journey. **MY TAKE ON LUCIA : As a female character, Lucia is very fast but weak. She runs and moves slenderly like a cat. But her hits are low-qualified and it takes her more hits to defeat an enemy than Dante and Trish. Besides, I feel that Lucia's combos are not only long, but hard as well. And it makes her difficult to change directions to targeted enemies while performing. But anyway, it's fun that you won't fall asleep when playing as her, since you have move your hands like hell. One of her advantages is the Throwing Daggers. I think Throwing Daggers is really a good long-ranged weapon for the enemies, since its power is mediocre and its accuracy is high. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucia's Unique Move List ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------- SKY HIGH ------------- Button : Lock onto a target, then hold the Left Analog Stick backward + Triangle button. Used : Kick an enemy up into the air. This has the same role as Dante's High Time. Once your enemy has been flung up, you have a great chance to deal some combos on them until they drop down. But if you are still excited, when the enemies haven't got up yet, Sky High them again and keep your joke done :). --------------- RAPID FIRE --------------- Button : Lock onto a target, then press the Left Analog Stick + Triangle button while jumping. Used : Kick enemies while jumping low. This can be understood as aerial combo. Lucia performs a three-hit combo in the air. If Lucia hasn't landed yet, you can still press Triangle with the Left Analog Stick to make her perform again. That means Lucia can perform this at different height before she lands the ground. This attack is very useful to cause heavy damage on flying enemies, especially the Goats. --------------------- SOMERSAULT KICK --------------------- Button : Press Triangle + R1 trigger kept Used : Attack and stun the enemy with heavy damage. This is also one of Lucia's basic move. It has pretty long range compared to other moves of Lucia. You can combine this attack with the other attacks to create more combos with great damage. The position of these enemies will cause different poses for Lucia : a) Lucia crosses her arms when the second enemy appears later and close to your targeted enemy. b) Lucia has her arms aim at two opposite directions if the second enemy appears on the opposite side of the targeted one, over Lucia. c) Lucia has one arm shoot the front enemy, the other aim behind to shoot the second enemy. This happens when the second enemy appears at her back. ----------- LUSH ----------- Button : Lock onto a target, then press Triangle button at the same time landing on the ground after jump. Used : Stand on hands and then kick enemies. This is useful to cause heavy damage on enemies while in the air. Just jump up, then press Triangle WITHOUT the Left Analog Stick. Lucia will instantly land heavily on the target with a "lovely" damage. This move can also be performed after you have just done a Rapid Fire, when Lucia hasn't landed yet. Rapid Fire + Lush can be a good combination when you are in the air. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucia's Unique Combos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These moves are what I find out from my experience. Here I just can list the basic ones. From these basic techniques, I will give hints to help you create some more alternate combos which come from their basic ones. --------------------------- BASIC SEVEN-HIT COMBO --------------------------- Perform : Press Triangle three times Used : Attack the enemies. This is Lucia's basic and simple combo. It has fine damage and you can easily perform it. The strongest hit of this combo is the final hit. *Alternate form : From this move, you can have a stronger Seven-hit Combo ended with Somersault Kick, by combining this move when the combo is going to be ended. ------------------------------ MODIFIED SEVEN-HIT COMBO ------------------------------ Perform : Press Triangle twice, then press the Left Analog Stick and keep using Triangle button. Used : Attack the enemy. In this combo, after four strikes with her sword, Lucia will perform the remaining three ones with her leg. This causes good damage though, and Lucia's final kick can also stun the enemy for a while. *Alternate Form : This combo can also be ended with Somersault Kick like the Basic Seven-hit Combo. --------------------- EIGHT-HIT COMBO --------------------- Perform : Press Triangle three times, then press the Left Analog Stick and keep using Triangle button. Used : Attack the enemy, strong damage. Just like the Modified 7-hit Combo, Lucia performs the first four hits with sword. Then she makes four kicks with different damages at different height. The final kick is strong and low at enemy's leg so that it can make some enemy fall. *Alternate form : This combo can be ended with Somersault Kick instead of the low kick. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucia's Devil Trigger Combos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucia's Devil Trigger Combos can be done similarly to her normal combos, but she performs differently. UNSTOPPING COMBO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Besides, if you perform the EIGHT-HIT COMBO in Lucia's DT, Lucia will make a different combo with two ETERNAL final hits. Lucia will make these two hits forever (even if your DT is turned off by anyway), unless you press another button to stop her or the enemy counterattacks you. Then she will end the combo by a reversal somersault kick. DANCING COMBO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ She performs this in DT when you hit the Modified Seven-hit Combo. Lucia will make a graceful combo, including somersault hits. =========================================================================== TRISH - THE MYSTERIOUS BLACK WOMAN =========================================================================== GENDER : Female WEAPON : Sword (Sparda), Guns (Luce&Ombra, Nightmare Gamma) JOB : Dante's partner FAMILY : N/A BACKGROUND : - Devil May Cry : A mysterious beautiful woman who invites Dante to the Mallet Island, the Infernal Gate. She possesses super natural power, keeps intelligence of the devils and also knows the secret history of Dante. But who on earth-or under the earth, maybe-knows of HER ? Strange thing is that she looks like Eva - Dante's mother very much. ...In the end of DMC, she joins Dante as his close partner. They have worked together since then. - Devil May Cry 2 As a secret playable character, Trish is absent from the storyline of this game. MY TAKE ON TRISH : Trish is a secret character of the game. In my opinion, she is the average character of the three. She is a little less strong than Dante, but much stronger than Lucia. Her speed is faster than Dante's, and lower but more moderated than Lucia's. By the way, Trish is still a good one to use. Her Sparda sword is a cool weapon with pretty strong power. Her techniques are completely different from the other two, even more special and useful with some more skills like Round Trip. After obtaining Trish, I always use her instead of Lucia to beat Lucia's scenarios in difficult modes, since I find her easier to control than Lucia. In my opinion, TRISH'S ROUND TRIP and DIVINE BEAMS ARE THE GREATEST ATTACKS TO BE USED IN HARD/MUST DIE MODE. Besides, she is so hot !!! If you have played DMC1, what I can tell you is that Trish is a copied version of Dante in DMC1. Her moves are all the same, except the change of buttons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trish's Unique Move List ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In this game, Trish's Unique Moves ARE THE SAME as Dante's Unique Moves, as her weapon is sword too (The Sparda). So you can refer to Dante's Unique Move List to know. Besides, she also has some other moves, like : ---------------- ROUND TRIP ---------------- Button : With R1 trigger held, hold Triangle for a while and release. Used : Attack the targeted enemy from any distance. This is very the interesting skill of Dante in DMC1. As the Sparda sword will turn into a scythe, Trish throws it away and it spins like hell at the targeted enemy, with a cool damage. It seems that Round Trip can attack the enemies from any distance, including flying enemies, unless it's blocked by some obstacles. Then it will return to Trish after a while. During the time the weapon is away, you can have Trish attack by bare hands. For bare-hand combos, refer to "Trish's Bare-hand Combos" list. ---------------------------- TAKING OUT YOUR SWORD ! ---------------------------- Button : Hold both L2 and Triangle for a while, then release Triangle first. Used : Take out your sword. Trish will place her sword on the ground. From now, you can have her attack by bare-hands. Refer to "Trish's Bare-hand Combo" list. -------------------------- GET YOUR SWORD BACK ! -------------------------- Button : L2 Used : Get back your sword once it's away. It means that you can use L2 to get back your sword after you take it out, or when it's performing Round Trip. Besides, during the time your sword is away, if you enter a new area, the sword will be already hung on Trish's back in the next screen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trish's Unique Combos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The same as Dante in DMC1. They are... --------------------- DEVIL TACKLE --------------------- *Added by Kat Simard Perform : Hold the Left Analog Stick, then High Time. When Dante reaches the air, press Triangle. Used : Inflict heavy damage on an enemy. Description : This hit is similar to normal High Time, but as you keep the Left Analog Stick backward longer, Trish will jump up to the air after her High Time. And as she is there, if you press Triangle, Trish will slash down as her normal jumping attack. This attack is strong and pretty convenient as it includes High Time, but it's so short for grand battles. -------------------- THREE-HIT COMBO -------------------- Perform : Press Triangle three times. Used : Attack the enemies. Trish performs three slashes : The first slash begins from her right, the second one is made from her left, continuing the first. Then she strikes her sword down as the final hit, also the strongest, the finishing hit of combo. This is Trish's most basic combo which gives birth to the stronger combos. You can do this combo very normally, and it's useful to strike a group of enemies. As the Sparda is a long-ranged weapon, with this combo, it can even damage the enemies behind you at the second slash. *Alternate Forms : - This combo can be used after High Time. You keep damaging your target as they are dropping down. -------------------- FIVE-HIT COMBO -------------------- Perform : Press the Triangle twice, then wait for a short while and press Triangle again. Used : Attack the enemies. This combo also works well for group of enemies. And its power is fine too. *Alternate Forms : - Can be used after High Time, like the above Three-hit Combo. - ENDED WITH HIGH TIME The same use as alternate Three-hit Combo. Perform : Just do the combo normally. At the final hit, hold R1 trigger and move the Left Analog Stick BACKWARD. - ENDED WITH STINGER The same use as alternate Three-hit Combo. Perform : Do the combo normally. At the final hit, hold R1 trigger anf move the Left Analog Stick FORWARD. ------------------------ MULTI-STAB COMBO ------------------------ Perform : Press Triangle twice, then wait for a long while (but not too long) and press Triangle again. Used : Attack single enemy with heavy damage. In order to succeed this combo, make sure that you press Triangle the third time more slowly than you do Five-hit Combo a little. But don't be too slow. It must be done before Trish hangs her sword. Once you master this combo, it's very useful to fight single bosses because it can deal big damage. By the way, just like other combos, the true strength of this attack gathers in the FINAL HIT, which decides most of the entire damage. It's pitiable that Multi-Stab Combo is nearly unable to be altered (while you could do this in DMC1). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trish's Devil Trigger Combos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The same as her normal combos. Besides, she also has... ------------------------ ROUND TRIP (AERIAL) ------------------------ Perform : Press Triangle button while you are flying in the air. Used : Throw the sword at enemies. Description : Have the Aerial Heart equipped, then DT and fly to the air. You'll be able to do this hit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trish's Bare-hand Combos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trish's speciality in this game is that she can use bare hands to fight. In order to take out her weapon, I have told you in "Trish's Unique Moves" list above. "Hold both L1 and Triangle for a while, then release Triangle first." Just don't forget that. Due to my experience, I feel that using bare hands GAINS YOUR STYLISH AVERAGE MORE QUICKLY than any other weapons. So why not use this for easy enemies, since you can earn some more Red Orbs with high Stylish Average ? --------------------- MAGMA DRIVE --------------------- Button : Press Triangle + Move the Left Analog Stick backward. Used : Short-ranged attack to fling up the enemy. This hit is similar to High Time of sword. Besides, if you have played DMC1, this is one of Dante's techniques when he's equipped with Ifrit gauntlets. --------------------- KICK13 --------------------- Perform : Press Triangle + Move the Left Analog Stick forward. Used : Long-ranged attack against single enemy with heavy damage. This is similar to Stinger of sword. Trish performs a long-ranged and strong kick to the enemy. This is also one of Dante's Ifrit techniques in DMC1. This is also one of Dante's Ifrit techniques in DMC1. -------------------- AERIAL KICK -------------------- Perform : Press Triangle while you are in the air. Used : suddenly attack the enemy from the air. This is really a heavy hit which was used in DMC1 by Dante. Now Trish does it in DMC2. You have her jump up to the air, then press Triangle. She will make a dashing kick toward the targeted enemy as she lands the ground, like Dante did in DMC1. --------------------- BARE-HAND COMBO --------------------- Button : Press Triangle three times. Used : Attack the enemies. The disadvantage of this combo is short range. It's a bit annoying to fight fast enemies such as Msira monsters with this combo. But then it looks pretty cool. Trish performs two punches, then two kicks at the targeted enemies. *Alternate Form : - This can be used after Magma Drive. It's just like when you perform sword combo after High Time. - COMBO ENDED WITH MAGMA DRIVE Perform : Just do the combo normally. At the final hit, hold R1 trigger and move the Left Analog Stick BACKWARD. Just like you end your sword combos with High Time. By this trick, you can keep your enemy beaten again and again. - COMBO ENDED WITH KICK13 Perform : Do the combo normally. At the final hit, hold R1 trigger anf move the Left Analog Stick FORWARD. Just like Stinger for sword, Kick13 is the best single bare-hand hit which makes your combo stronger and longer-ranged. =========================================================================== OTHER CHARACTERS =========================================================================== MATIER - THE VETERAN PROTECTOR OF VIE DE MARLI She is now Lucia's mother. She and her clan did fight alongside with Sparda to protect the island from demons. That's why she "knew him very well". She must have been once a powerful warrior, just like Lucia now. In this game, she is the one who invites Dante and asks him to do a favour : Defeat Arius and his master, to bring back the peace for the island, as well as the humanity. ARIUS - THE MYSTERIOUS PRESIDENT He has the ambition to become the ruler of the world. He uses to demons' power to execute his wish, and turns Vie de Marli into a demons' paradise. He is the villain in this game. =========================================================================== CHARACTERS' SPECIAL MOVES =========================================================================== Not all the sections I write here are "special". But I list them as they have something "special" compared to the normal attacks. ------------------------- DIVINE BEAMS (DANTE) ------------------------- Character : Dante Requirement : Aerial Heart equipped, fly in the air, Desperate Devil Trigger form. Perform : Square button (+ holding R1) Description : About how to make Dante's Special DT, you refer to "Basic Terms" - "Battle System and Actions" section. Dante will shoot fatal Yellow Beams toward the enemies instead of using handguns to shoot. These beams are very strong and deadly to normal enemies. ------------------------- DIVINE AURA ------------------------- Character : Dante Requirement : Desperate Devil Trigger form. Perform : Square + Triangle EXACTLY AT THE SAME TIME. Description : Within a short moment, Dante's body is covered by beams which will be shot through all the enemies around. Each of this beam is strong enough to end a normal enemy. But this skill also drains Dante's DT Gauge very quickly. ------------------------- DIVINE BEAMS (TRISH) ------------------------- Character : Trish Requirement : Aerial Heart equipped and fly in the air, in Devil Trigger Mode. Perform : Square button (+ holding R1) Description : Unlike Dante, Trish has this powerful attack in normal DT. With the Aerial Heart equipped, have Trish fly in the air and then press Square button to shoot. Instead of using her handguns, Trish will shoot Yellow Beams to the targeted enemies with VERY STRONG damage. ------------------- VORTEX ------------------- Character : Trish Requirement : Aerial Heart equipped and fly in the air in DT mode. Perform : Square + Triangle exactly at the same time. Description : This is completely a DMC1 move : Trish spins herself like an arrow which dashes through the enemies. This is pretty useful to attack single enemies from the air. But it's pretty inconvenient, since you have to combine the buttons accurately. In DMC1, this is one of Dante's major attacks to defeat certain bosses. ~~~/\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/\~~~ <<( )<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<( )<< )( )( ( ) SECTION 6 : STORYLINE ( ) )( )( >>( )>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>( )>> ~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~ DEVIL MAY CRY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two milleniums ago, the Force of Evil led by Mundus, Emperor of The Underworld, began their invasion of the world of men. It is to take revenge against Mundus, Emperor of the Underworld, who was resurrected 20 years earlier and who took the lives of his beloved mother and brother. ... ... DEVIL MAY CRY 2 PROLOGUE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **In ancient times, a religion arising somewhere in the Mediterranean Ocean split into many different fractions. Its disciplines carried it quickly to western Asia, Europe and North America. As time passed, some gods from the various sects were forgotten, others were assimilated into other religions, and others were still shunned as evil. For one reason or another, the gods all but disappeared. What few people continued worshipping them were branded as heretics. The dissenters were forced to turn their backs on their own homelands in the outcasts eventually found themselves adrift in an unknown land floating on the outskirts of the New World. This was Dumary Island. Hordes of refugees of different races, beliefs and languanges crossed over to the island. The first to arrive followed the seas routes of the olf Viking explorers, around the North Pole and through the Pacific Ocean. Following them came runaway slaves seeking sanctuary. The newcomers all had a single common point-belief in a pagan religion. Tribes that had historically skirmished over old differences running deep in their cultures now lived together peacefully on the same island. As the generations passed, the former strangers blended together into a single people. Their mix of different languages, ethnic customs and various gods gave birth to totally unique religions. The gods worshipped by the new blend of people were an ancient family of beings inhabiting a different dimension. They wielded strange powers and existed outside the concepts of right and wrong. Deities that were considered evil or pagan in the old world were, on Dumary Island, simply thought of as "other gods"- there were far too many of them to count. Rites performed in honor of these idols often resembled exorcisms and demon sealing ceremonies. The priests of these cults were known as "guardians" and were sometimes called upon to protect the gods and their worshippers. Many were the legends of guardians who had borrowed the power of their own gods to defeat enemy gods. One recent tale, only a few hundred years old, told of a great swordsman appearing from "the outside" to aid in exorcizing the most evil gods of all time. Over the centuries, Dumary Island's success in supporting the worship of unique religions while maintaining its existence out of the mainstream has been nothing short of miraculous. Lately, however, agents of international corporations begun infiltrating the island. Their purpose is to acquire the "special ores" discovered in the island's interior. On Dumary Island, the people's simple religious piety, as well as the fabulous artifacts buried in the inner mountains, are now in great danger...** --- The background of the game, according to Instruction book. In Boss Strategies, I write "Strategy" and "Boss' Attacks" to make it easier for you to deal with the fights. Thanks to Trung Nguyen for having made them more perfect. For those who have had Trish available as a secret playable character, since you can choose her to play the scenarios in both Dante's and Lucia's disc, I have added own strategies with Trish in each Boss Strategies. WALKTHROUGH FOR DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 1 Toward the north, the hunter of dark blood will realize his destiny. "Guidepost for the Hunters" Chapter 1 Clause 3 *************************************************************************** ----------------------- CITY - SOUTH AREA ----------------------- As Dante has just landed, have him run around the current place, striking the collapsed statue for Red Orbs. Run to the small path on the left of the tower for Red Orbs. Now choose the upper right path and go down. Strike two more statues for Red Orbs. Go right and keep running down. As you come to the next turn, you see some pillar with a flag above. Get in the pillar, you'll be able to spot a pretty big Red Orb. Then go back and keep on your way. Overjump the blocking gate, getting the Red Orb in the other side. You'll notice a huge relief on the cliff. Try to kick jump to the statue's shoulder. Then reach his head. A lot of Red Orbs will drop onto you. Good prize ? Keep running until you come to the arch gate. Double jump at the gate for a [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT]. As you pass the gate, try to find a broken bus here with a Red Orb on it. Then just go ahead. You'll face your first enemies : the Agonofinises. Test your skills here. Then just run forward. Don't forget to grab the Red Orbs you see around. As you come to the turn, several Puias (bird monsters) come to attack you. Defeat them. Press Circle at the big green door to enter your first secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 1 FOUND] Then I recommend you to jump down a hole with several Red Orbs along on the right of the big green door. You can search along the whole sewer for red orb stuffs if you like. Now back to the ground and go left. Keep going until you are blocked. Jump over it and enter the blocking door FROM THIS SIDE... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 2 FOUND] You can go north on the roofs for several Red Orbs and... Agonofinises. Just go left on the roofs and collect stuffs. As you come to a terrace, don't forget to strike two collapsed statues here for Red Orbs. Then go to the southwest, strike the bench for another medium Red Orb. Then just go ahead, until you see a scene : two barriers lock you, as the Agonofinises and Terreofinises come to attack you. You must kill them in order to destroy the barriers to continue. It's time to jump down the ground and obtain your first [GOLD ORB] there. After you kill the enemies, the barrier disappears. Just go north til you see the Statue of Time. Jump to the waterway below the statue, search the end of the waterway to find another [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT]. After that, jump up and continue. In the end of path, you'll see a rectangle hole on the ruin, along with Red Orbs. Jump through it, you'll encounter the first Msira monsters of the game. You MUST kill them anyway. Then an item will be dropped on the ground, the [GATE KEY]. Grab it. And use the key on the door somewhere in the area. You'll be able to go out. Head to the next door and get in. ----------------------- CITY - NORTH AREA ----------------------- As you have been, walk along the path to the fork road. Teehee, several Agonofinises and Terreofinises may appear to joke you. Kill them and grab the orbs here. Now it's time for to make a mini-journey on the rooftops to seek "munny". Let me tell you that your destination is the house at the end of the area - the house which has an arch doorway near the cliff. Just let you know. Then remember to get all the orbs here before entering that arch gate. There are several small paths among the houses where you may find rows of red orbs. Besides, make a tour on the rooftop and STRIKE ALL THE CHIMNEYS you see. Most of them have little orbs inside. After you finish, walk to the house. You'll what happens next. Then you end up your mission here. *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 2 The aerial heart will give the hunter the chance to reach the skies. "Guidepost for the Hunters" Chapter 1 Clause 6 *************************************************************************** -------------------- DUNGEON I -------------------- When the mission starts, have Dante run forward. Strike the man-face wall to unlock the next area. Then go in. Jump down the large, then go to Dante's left. Keep going until you see another man-face wall. Strike it to unlock the path here. There is a big Red Orb. If you get it, three -Finises monsters will attack you. Beat them, then go out. Just go ahead til you see another man-face wall. [On the way to the second man-face wall, you can suddenly drop the "Trap Room" underground. This first trap room contains three -Finis monsters for you to beat. After that, kick-jump to the ground to continue.] Strike it and go in, beat the [RED HEAD] for stuffs. You see several coffins here also. Check the coffin on the back of the Red Head for a secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 3 FOUND] Then go out, keep going to the end of the road. Strike the man-face wall here. The big wall on Dante's right will be moved aside. Get in there, have your guns ready to shoot the damn Flambats. You'll see a double-door with a row of Red Orbs as you go in. But wait. Go across the double-door for another man-face wall. Destroy it, and you'll see another wall moved. On the way back to the double door, you spot the new area. You may see nothing in the new area. But just wander around there, you'll be trapped... [This is the second Trap Room. Here you can find a lot of Red Orbs and a [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT]. Grab them, then get on.] After that, enter the door. --------------------- PUZZLE ROOM --------------------- When you get in, you'll see 25 tiles on the floor arranged like a mini- chessboard. Try checking the next door you see : It'll tell you to light some flames. The central tile of the chessboard is lit. You step on it, then some walls rise there are four Moving Globes scatter. What you have to do is to break the Globes as much as you can. Three hits can break one globe. Then after a while, the wall will disappear, then another wall rises along with four other Moving Globes. Just keep breaking them. Once you strike enough 8 globes, the door will be unsealed. And simply enter it. -------------------- DUNGEON II -------------------- Just go ahead. In the next camera angle, you'll see a fork road. And in front of you there's a sealed door. I recommend you to TURN TO DANTE'S RIGHT FIRST (If not, you'll regret). Turn right then go inside, you'll find a man- face wall. Break it and get in to obtain a [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT]. If you keep wandering here, sometimes a Savage Golem may appear to play with you. Then make your way back to the main road. [As you are coming out, you may be trapped again. This Trap Room contains three Pyromancers. Kill them if you like. If not, just jump on to escape.] Then go to the left area. You'll soon see the man-face wall here. Strike it, and now you'll see : the right area has been closed to reveal another area next to it. That's why I did force you to go right first. Just go to the new area (which is next to the entrance) and break the man-face wall there. It will reveal another new area across. Come there, as you'll fight several Pyromancers here. Kill them now, then break the final man-face wall here. Get in the path, strike the Striking Globe to unseal the door you saw when you first entered here. After that, I recommend you to check all the coffins beside the Striking Globe, one of them is... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 4 FOUND] After that, make your way out. [As you are going out, you may accidentally get the final trap room. Here you face two Savage Golems.] Get in the door you have just unlocked. ----------------------------- AERIAL HEART CHAMBER ----------------------------- As you enter, the door will be sealed immediately, along with Agonofinises, Terreofinises and Mortifinises, then next to the Pyromancers. Try all your efforts to kill them. After that, the two "big bosses" on the top of the pedestal will show themselves. Hey, get your sword and guns to deal with them. After all events, touch the pedestal. You'll obtain the [AERIAL HEART]. [AERIAL HEART OBTAINED] Now step on the green plate on the corner of the room to fulfill your DT Gauge if you need. Then transform, jump and press X button to fly up. Get the orbs and fly to the hole on the wall. That's all. *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 3 The key to the next journey begins and ends with death. "Guidepost for the Hunters" Chapter 2 Clause 4 *************************************************************************** -------------------------------- CITY - STREET AREA -------------------------------- Run down the street, then turn to Dante's left. Keep going til you come to a fork road. Here I suggest you to go south first. Here you may face some Agonofinises or Terreofinises. Beat them if you like. At the end, there's a big door where you can air-hike for a some Red Orbs. Besides, here you can find a balcony where Dante sees Uroboros - the other city. Don't forget to the grab the [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT] here. On its two sides, you see two high pillars, and some lower pillars beside. It's a good idea to get on the two pillars to get stuffs. One of them exactly has orbs, the other may have hidden orbs which are dropped when you are standing on it. It's a real pain to use normal jump to get on the pillar. So if you have enough DT Gauge, equip the Aerial Heart and DT, then fly up. If not, wander around to make some monsters appear, then beat them to fill DT Gauge. Now make your way back to the fork road. Choose the left path. As you're going, a cutscene will appear. And what you have to do now is to keep running forward, dodging the blue flames to defeat the "guy" who has caused this mess. Try to dodge (by jumping and flipping escape) and run to the end of the road. You'll soon face the Goatling, and he will drop down to deal with you. It does no good if you fight the -Finises monsters since they keep coming. So try to defeat Goatling, then all monsters will disappear. After that, you can find two brown doors on the left. Get in the left one (since the right one is unaccessible). ---------------------- TROLLEY STATION ---------------------- As you enter this place... =========================================================================== =========================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : ORANGGUERRA Difficulty : Medium --------------------------------------- Description : Orangguerra is giant lion-like monsters who possesses great strength with his insane punches. ---------------- STRATEGY ---------------- *IF YOU PLAY AS DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is the general strategy for Orangguerra. He seems big and slow. But in fact he's pretty fast in close battling. If the distance between you and him is close enough, he is always in preparation to hit you. So just stand for a while as you make him beat you, then quickly flip away. When Orangguerra hasn't brought his arms up (hehehe, now he's slow ^_^), immediately give him so combos. Then when Orangguerra has got back himself, flip away and repeat the strategy. For the way how to dodge his attacks, refer to the below "Boss' Attacks" part. When you are far away from Orangguerra, it's not a bad idea to shoot at him with your handguns. But watch out for his Jumping or his Crystal Globes which can startle you when he's out of screen. In DT mode, you should float in the air with your Aerial Heart equipped, as this will help you to avoid some certain attacks of Orangguerra, and you can freely throw daggers to him from the air. But this won't help gaining your Stylish Average. Besides, don't forget that there are three little Green Orbs are placed at three of the four corners of the area. Try to grab them if you need. *IF YOU PLAY AS TRISH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With Trish, you can apply the same strategy for Dante in normal form. But while you are far away from the boss, you can have Trish and cast Round Trip simultaneously to increase the damage on Orangguerra. In Trish's DT, I recommend one more strategy : With Aerial Heart equipped, have Trish DT and fly up. Don't be too far from Orangguerra. Then play Round Trip or shoot Yellow Beams to him. Trish's Round Trip and Yellow Beams cause very big damage on enemies. And this is completely convenient to beat this boss. But beware that these skills can waste more DT Gauge. So watch out. ---------------------------- ORANGGUERRA'S ATTACKS ---------------------------- STRIKE DOWN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Orangguerra loves this hit very much. He plays this whenever you come close to him : His huge arms are waved down onto you from the air. It's not very long-ranged, and you can completely dodge it by flipping away (aside or backward). But once you get hit, it may cause fairly serious damage. You can also evade this hit by hiding in one of the pillars of the room, but remember that it'll be destroyed after one of Orangguerra's hit. SMASHING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Orangguerra has one of his arm wave to you. This attack is longer-ranged than Strike Down. And its accuracy is higher too. Once he is slapping to you, QUICKLY ROLL TO THE DIRECTION WHICH HE MOVES HIS ARM TO. If you are far enough from him, you can also flip aside (to left or right). Just like the above attack, you can avoid by hiding behind a pillar. But the boss will destroy it soon. APPROACHING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This hit looks similar to Strike Down : He plays it whenever you are within his arms. He also moves his arms down. But instead of damaging you, he catches you up and shakes you like a toy. Your lifebar won't stop being reduced until he lets you go. His final action is to throw away. And this throw gives you a big damage too. My best solution for this is not to let him catch you, by the same way you used to dodge Strike Down. While you are being shaken, if your DT Gauge is enough, DT to make him give you up. Then continue the fight. JUMPING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, he is forced to use this when you are trying to run away. You may despise his big and slow body. But the truth is that he's very fast at jumping. He can jump exactly to the position where you are in. So it's better if you keep rolling and flipping when you have to run. The damage caused by this jumping is pretty annoying, and the result is that you will be thrown away, with some little more damage. WINDY BALLS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think these balls are just gathering messes of gales. Just like Jumping, he uses this when you are away from him. These balls are in big-size and its damage is pretty big for you, and you can be thrown far away like Jumping. These balls are hard to read, especially when Orangguerra is out of the screen, and they move fast too. So try to fight with all your attentions. When it's coming to you, you should quickly roll or flip aside. If the balls are cast low, you dodge by air-hiking. I guess these balls can be reflected too, if you slash it them accurately. But the better idea is still to dodge, okay ? MSIRA SUMMONING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After the fight lasts for a while, Orranguerra can summon several Msira monsters to attack you. The harder mode you choose, the more and stronger Msiras he calls. They do nothing major but annoy you, preventing you from damaging Orangguerra. Try to keep your aim on Orrangguerra by staying away from bunches of Msiras. If you are expert enough, try to dodge Orangguerra's attacks and deceive the Msiras to be hit by very their bosses. Just stand at a position and let the boss attack you, as the Msiras are coming. Then quickly dodge the attack, as the coming Msiras will get it for you. Generally, you should try not to be confused by these monsters. You can give them some slashes if they surround you too much. Just try to attempt to the main boss to finish the battle, as they will all disappear then. This fight is not very hard itself. But the truly annoying thing is that there are several Puias surrounding to support Orangguerra. Beware their little dropping balls they cast onto you. In Hard and Must Die mode, they can even dash down to hit you. Don't let yourself confused, since the Puias keep coming if you try to kill them. Defeating Orangguerra is the better solution. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== As the boss is defeated, grab the Station Key which has been dropped down. Then exit to the street. -------------------------------- CITY - STREET AREA -------------------------------- Your destination is the white door with great carved decoration on it. Go down a few steps, then you see it : the door with a Red Orb. But before entering it, I recommend you to try to search for a brown door across that white door. Try the Circle button until you can touch the door. It's a secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 5 FOUND] After that, enter the white door to end your mission. *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 4 She has many arms but only one heart as she waits for the hunter deep in water. "Guidepost for the Hunters" Chapter 4 Clause 5 *************************************************************************** --------------------------------- CITY - CLIFF AREA --------------------------------- Keep running down. Search the right side of the path. The first door here is the next secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 6 FOUND] Come to the fork road. Try to jump on the right platform for a Red Orb. Then try jumping up the higher platform. Many big Red Orbs will drop onto you. After that, search the edge across that platform for another Red Orb. Then jump down the fork road. In the next angle, take the south direction first. Reach the big grey door and double jump for Red Orbs. Then make your way to the north and have some battles with Msiras. During the battle, you may accidentally spot a camera angle which shows you a [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT] on the left cliff of the path. If you see this, just follow up and air-hike to grab it. If not, you can make a search on the left side of the path until you find it. When the Msiras are ended, keep reaching north til the dead end. Now have Dante strike the end "wall". You'll be able to obtain a new area. Keep going forward, until the camera angle shows the cliff on Dante's left. Jump up those steps to grab the Red Orbs. Then you'll see a Blue Orb Fragment on the top of the cliff. Try to stay as close to the cliff as you can. Then jump up the next step for a small Red Orb. From this position, normally jump up to the top to obtain [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT]. Remember that AERIAL HEART DOES NO GOOD HERE. Well, walk down the street. Jump up to the houses on Dante's left to grab the orbs. You'll a house in the end of the path. There are several red orbs on the way. And you'll notice a Moving Globe in front of the house. Now just ignore it and enter the house. ------------------------ VACANT OBSERVATORY ------------------------ You'll be welcomed by the Agonofinises and Terreofinises. Beat these guys. Get on the staircase. DON'T FORGET TO DOUBLE JUMP TO THE HIDDEN CEILING BEHIND THE STAIRCASE PILLARS FOR RED ORBS. As the next door has just been unsealed after you beat the monsters, enter it. Have Dante tough the pedestal. He'll soon conquer the [QUICK HEART]. [QUICK HEART OBTAINED] There's a Statue of Time in this room. You can jump up above the pedestal and the ceiling of the room for a Red Orb and a [GOLD ORB]. Then exit the room. You may fight the -Finises monsters again. Kill them if you like, then get out. ------------------------- CITY - CLIFF AREA ------------------------- It's time for you to do some important tasks. Now take the lower path and keep running down. There are tons of big Red Orbs along. You'll find a shutter soon. But it has been closed. Don't go there now. Just keep going down, you'll soon find a [RED HEAD]. Strike it for "munny". Here you see a shutter, press Circle to enter it for the Secret Room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 7 FOUND] Now make your way to the new remaining area. Now what you have to do is to unlock this closed shutter. Go back to the Moving Globe you saw in front of the vacant observatory. Remember to EQUIP THE QUICK HEART. As you have prepared, strike the globe. A cutscene appears to show you that the shutter has been opened. But it is being closed gradually. Now DEVIL TRIGGER and RUN LIKE HELL. That's why you must have the Quick Heart equipped. It accelerates your DT speed. Run crazily to the shutter before it's completely closed. Try to get the smooth way and avoid obstacles. When you come to the shutter, if it has been moved lower than you, PRESS CIRCLE to roll through it. You'll make it pass. If you fail, just redo by striking the Moving Globe again. But if your DT runs out, just enter the Vacant Observatory for some battles with the Agono/Terreofinises. After you have passed, go ahead. Grab the Green Orb on the right. Take the left staircase and head to the area above the door for a hidden Red Orb. Then enter the door... ============================================================================== ======================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : JOKATGULM Difficulty : Easy/Medium in Normal/Hard mode Hard in Must Die mode. ----------------------------------- This is an octopus-like monster which is the female demon mentioned in the Guidepost. -------------- STRATEGY -------------- *IF YOU PLAY AS DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, this boss may be a little tricky for newbies. But it will be simpler if you know how to damage it. Your target is Jokalgulm's Head which is among her tentacles. But as the auto-aim is blocked by the tentacles, you can't get in her head now. Now I suggest you should LOCK ONTO A CERTAIN TENTACLE and KILL THAT TENTACLE. Don't let yourself confused by other ones. Just attend to attack the tentacle you chose, dodging its hits at the same time. After this tentacle is destroyed, it's time for you to dash to Jokatgulm's head and damage her. Try to damage as much as you can, by using Dante's Six-hit combos or any strong attacks you can do. Don't forget to DT here either, since this helps you to increase your damage. After a while being damaged, Jokatgulm will either blows poison gas to you or cast barrier to strike you away. Both hits can damage you heavily. So be careful. Then just repeat the above strategy, destroy one of the tentacles and get in to damage her head, until she dies. SOMETIMES, you can also get to the boss' head without killing a tentacle. This is harder to do, but a bit more convenient in Normal and Hard mode. You can fly into it, or desperate roll to it without getting damage from the tentacle. But watch out for the poison gas. Jokatgulm all attempts 100% to this attack in Must Die mode. Remember that after you destroy each tentacle, a medium Red Orb will be dropped as a "trophy" for you. *IF YOU PLAY AS TRISH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apply the same strategy for Dante. The best combo to defeat Jokatgulm is Multi-stabbing and any forms of Five-hit Combo. --------------------------- BOSS' ATTACKS --------------------------- NORMAL TENTACLE STRIKE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is Jokatgulm's frequent attack in Normal Mode. She has her tentacles wave slightly on the ground to smash you away. She does this pretty slowly, and it's not too difficult for you to dodge it, simply jumping. Jokatgulm can strike one or two tentacles at you at the same time. The alternate form of this attack is that Jokatgulm has her tentacle strike DOWN onto you. It's not very different from the above, but you dodge it by flipping aside instead of jumping. TWISTING TENTACLE STRIKE (DOUBLE) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, this hit is used instead of normal strike in HARD mode. Two tentacles twist to each other, becoming a bigger tentacle which gives you heavier damage if you get it. I think jumping is not good here, since the tentacle aims up. You can either flip aside or backward as far as you can. TWISTING TENTACLE STRIKE (TRIPLE) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jokatgulm loves using this attack in Must Die mode. This time, once you obtain to destroy a tentacle, not only it is much stronger, but the other two tentacles twist to it and give you a lovely a hit as well. That messing twisting tentacle can hit you at any height (high, normal or low). That means jumping is not a good way to dodge this. So rolling is the only way. It's not also good to roll backward, as the triple twisting tentacle is long enough to reach you unless you are extremely fast. After that, flipping ASIDE is the best way. But beware, since the next tentacle can hit you soon !!! POISON GAS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This attack is done by Jokatgulm's head, as you are trying to damage her. She can blow it to any direction where you locate, and she can change directions why blowing. She attacks you by this hit no matter you are out of her head or you've been come to her head. If you get this hit heavily, your character will turn into purple colour. That means he/she has been temporarily poisoned, as your lifebar is going down (like Resident Evil game). If you are in emergency, use a Holy Star if you have. But I think you shouldn't be so worried, since your character will return to normal after a while. If you want to save your healing items, it's not a bad idea to DT with Healing Heart equipped. There are two ways to avoid Poison Gas : - When Jokatgulm casts the gas at you, simply dodge aside by Circle button with Left Analog Stick moved to left or right. Or you can also flip backward as far as you can so that her gas won't come to you. - This trick works if the tentacle doesn't attack you. Well, hide yourself behind a tentacle to avoid the gas. You'll be safe... before that tentacle can beat you ! PROTECTIVE BARRIER ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Woo woo, Jokatgulm plays this after receiving enough damage from you. When you stand at her head and damage, Jokatgulm will make this to protect herself and to get rid of you. Of course, a pretty lovely damage for you, okay ? Nothing can beat this freaky thing, so just wait until she turns it off. In difficult modes, Jokatgulm doesn't always cause this barrier after being hit by you. She can play it randomly, especially when you're trying to get closed to her. The damage is not big, but many of them can become annoying in harder modes. So just take care of yourself. And due to my experience, there's no way to avoid this thing if you are inside Jokatgulm's mess. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== After defeating Jokatgulm, you'll have some "trophies". Quickly get them all before they disappear. Enter the new area which has just been unlocked. Dante will automatically grab the [SHOTGUN] nearby. Then watch a cool cutscene : This was the first time I saw how cool Dante is when he rides the motorbike (^_^). *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 5 Close to your eye, but far-off in your mind the hunter must learn to the value of options. "Guidepost for the Hunters" Chapter 5 Clause 4 *************************************************************************** ------------------------- UROBOROS - CENTRE ------------------------- When the mission starts, have Dante run forward, then... Urg oh, Freki and Geri - the two "beautiful" wolves, come to attack you. Defeating these things is damn annoying. They dash you like hell. For the strategy to beat them, I'll write in "Enemy List" section. What you have to do is to strike them if you can, but use your Shotgun mainly. Sometimes the wolves may stop for while, to rest or to scream. No matter what they do, it's the best chance to give them a full Three-hit Combo or some single hits. After you beat them, you can get some Red Orbs (but remember that THEY ARE NOT DEAD YET, as you'll a cutscene which shows their "owners"). Run up to the streets, you'll be welcomed by some "friends" (again) : Puias and Blood Goats. Try to beat them with your Rebellion and Shotgun. They are pretty annoying, but you'll make it. Then a cutscene is shown to let you know the tunnel on the left has been unsealed. But I recommend you to head to the right, jump onto the higher path search the double-doors there. You'll find one of them a secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 8 FOUND] Then enter the tunnel on the left (the one with a Red Orb you saw). ------------------------------ UROBOROS - BRIDGE AREA ------------------------------ Run to the street and go left. You'll be welcomed by your big "boss" : Mr. Orangguerra and some Homromsiras. What do you do now ? If you are afraid of the monsters, just keep running (left) to the end of the road, jump over spoiled truck to the new area. If you want to access the secret room, so please, try to defeat them. Refer to Orangguerra's Strategy in Mission 3 walkthrough. Do not attempt to the Msiras, since they keep coming. Kill Oranguerra first, then the others. After that, jump up to the bridge. Go to its right and search for the next secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 9 FOUND] Then as I said, run to the end of the road, getting over the truck to the new place. ------------------------------------ UROBOROS - INFESTED TANK AREA ------------------------------------ A cutscene will be shown, as you see Dante assaulted by three Infested Tanks. =========================================================================== =========================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : INFESTED TANK Difficulty : Very Easy (if you know how to beat it) ---------------------------------------------------------- Infested Tank is a tank infested by the Infentant monsters and it's mutated. -------------------------------------- STRATEGY FOR EACH INFESTED TANK -------------------------------------- In the first time I played the game, I died a lot because I didn't know the best way to kill it. But after I figured out how to beat it easily, it's just a piece of cake. *IF YOU PLAY AS DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One thing you must remember is that Infested Tank's attacks NEVER TOUCH YOU when you come close to it. One sentence : WHEN YOU ARE JUST BESIDE IT. Infested Tank's gun is just too long and higher than you, so it never hits you if you are next to the tank body. Here is the strategy : When the battle has begun, quickly ROLL to the Tank. I recommend you to roll, since running normally can make you get its Fireballs. Once you are standing just next to the Tank, simply damage it until it dies. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ITS AIMING GUN. It is never be able to hit you. But one thing YOU MUSTN'T DO : DO NOT CLIMB ON THE TANK. Why not ? If you do so, its Gatling Gun will damage you heavily as it's on the tank. That's all. ...Is it easy ? (^_^) *IF YOU PLAY AS TRISH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The same as Lucia. If you like, attack by Round Trip. As the sword is spinning and hitting the tank, you can have Trish attack by bare-hands to increase the damage. Very cool, right ? With this strategy, it's not difficult for you to get "Showtime" of Stylish Average. But beware of the Puias. ----------------------------------------- STRATEGY FOR THREE INFESTED TANKS ----------------------------------------- In Dante's scenario, you have to kill three Infested Tanks instead of one big tank in Lucia's. But I think Dante's is harder. First, just apply the above strategy for each of them. But this is what you have to watch out : While you are damaging one of the tanks, the others can still damage you with their shots. So it's better for you to choose a good position to attack one tank. This position is optional, but guarantee that it can partly protect you from the others' attacks. Then repeat the strategy with the remaining tanks. In Normal Mode, the tanks just stay at their fixed positions, and this is not hard for you to avoid their hits. But in Hard and Must Die, they can gradually change their positions if you try to avoid their shots. That means you cannot stay at one safe position forever, as it won't be safe anymore if the tanks move to attack you. So it's better for you to change the place frequently. ------------------------------ INFESTED TANK'S ATTACKS ------------------------------ Infested Tank has a big gun on its body. And it often moves this big gun to different directions toward the target... who is YOU. Generally, attacks caused by this gun CANNOT hit you once you are next to the tank as I said in "Strategy" section. FIREBALLS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is Infested Tank's long-ranged attack. Its big gun shoots a big fireball toward you, which can cause big damage. This attack can be seen, so you should quickly ROLL or JUMP ASIDE. Well, anyway, once you get closed to the tank as I said in "Strategy" section, these Fireballs are never be able to hit you. I can guarantee that, unless you yourself move away from him. THROWING FLAME ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is shorter-ranged than Fireballs. Infested Tank's gun throws flame moving around to enlarge its limit. This flame just hits you when you are in its limit, as I said it's not long-ranged. So just simply ROLL or JUMP BACKWARD quickly. But just like Fireballs, you'll be safe from this attack once you are next to the tank. WHITE BEAMS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Infested Tank sometimes play this attack. Its gun shoots little white beams toward you with long-range but low speed, as these beams will keep going toward you until they are stopped. Just quickly roll to the direction they are aimed to. Like the above hits, these beams can't hit you when you are next to the tank. GATLING GUN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a hidden gun placed on the Tank's body. It really works when you climb on the tank. As you are trying to damage it there, this Gatling Gun will continuously shoot and stun you for a while, and its damage is pretty bad. The best way is NOT to climb on the tank. But at times Gatling Gun also works when you are far from the tank, like the above three attacks. So just roll or jump aside. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== After that, go to the place where the first tank located. Keep going right until you see a burning ruin. Jump over the ruin to reach a hidden area behind it. Search the place, and you'll soon find the [OFFENCE HEART]... [OFFENCE HEART OBTAINED] Then get out. Back to the place where the first tank located. Find a big double-door near the corner for a secret room... [SECRET ROOM LEVEL 10 FOUND] Go to the place where the second tank located, run up the high path til its end. Grab the orbs and a [BLUE ORB FRAGMENT] here. Then you can jump down at this place for some more orbs under the path. At the place where the third tank located, go ahead. Then you'll find something assaulting you... =========================================================================== =========================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : INFESTED CHOPPER (NORMAL) Difficulty : Medium ----------------------------------------------- Description : A chopper infested by an Infestant. This is NOT an official boss battle, as this Infested Chopper is shown as a normal enemy (look at its lifebar), so I won't write this as carefully as a Boss Fight strategy, since this chopper will become a boss in the end of this mission, then I will do my task. At this time, you can fight it or not. So let me give you two solutions. Choose either solution to keep you alive : 1) Don't want to waste your strength and lifebar. Quickly run to the dark area you see on the screen, after the cutscene is ended. 2) Want to fight ? Equip the Shotgun and keep shooting at the chopper. Remember to dodge its white beams as well as the assaulting missiles. They are extremely annoying. After you defeat it, run to the dark area. If you play as Trish, you can have her shoot and cast Round Trip to the Infested Chopper at the same time. If I were you, I would the choose the 1st selection. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== ------------------- VACANT HOUSE ------------------- I don't have an exact walkthrough here. What you have to do is to keep jumping up the levels as high as you can. You MUST do this. Along the journey, the important thing is that you have to find the place where you can get to thr high levels. Doing this again and again til you reach the top. Got it ? There may be several orbs along the way though. Keep jumping up. When you reach the second level, the house is burned and then Infested Chopper appears again. Quickly jump up the levels. As the house is burning, DON'T LET YOURSELF DROP DOWN. If you drop down a low level, Dante will lose lifebar as he's burned. At that time, be calm and try to find the way to reach the higher level. Keep jumping up and up til you get on the top level. This level looks like a border around the building. Run along this border til you find the staircase to terrace. 2) Want to fight ? Equip the Shotgun and keep shooting at the chopper. Remember to dodge its white beams as well as the assaulting missiles. They are extremely annoying. After you defeat it, keep going up as I said in 1st solution. If you play as Trish, you can have her shoot and cast Round Trip to the Infested Chopper at the same time. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== -------------- TERRACE I -------------- Infested Chopper doesn't give you up... Choose either solution to keep you alive : 1) As you enter the terrace, there's a cutscene showing the circular place where helicopter ports (the H port). If you don't want to fight, try to dodge Infested Chopper's shots, run to that place and head to the air. Dante will automatically "fly" to the next building. 2) Want to fight ? Equip the Shotgun and keep shooting at the chopper. Remember to dodge its white beams as well as the assaulting missiles. They are extremely annoying. After you defeat it, do my 1st solution to reach the next building. If you play as Trish, you can have her shoot and cast Round Trip to the Infested Chopper at the same time. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== ------------------ TERRACE II ------------------ As you come here, the Infested Chopper is still after you. Now go deeper and find a staircase behind the building. Get down it and grab some Red Orbs. The chopper will go away soon. Then Puias should come now. Now it's time for you to jump up the platforms of the building next to the staircase. There are orbs and you can get them if you like. Try to reach the second RIGHT edge, run to the back to a window- washer cart, you'll soon find another [FULL BLUE ORB]. Then keep jumping up to the top of this second building. Keep running until you see a cutscene showing a row of orbs (Green Orb and Red Orbs) which leads to the the highest building overthere. Follow the row of orbs and land on the ground. Make your way up to the highest building. First, jump on the first edge of the building. Then you'll find several platforms and bases for you to continue jumping. The Puias still annoy you. Just climb to the top of the building. Well, the real battle begins... =========================================================================== =========================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : INFESTED CHOPPER Difficulty : Medium ----------------------------------------------- Description : A chopper infested by an Infestant. Hey, this is not a joke anymore. Now you must destroy him in order to continue. His lifebar is max now and it's time for you to getset. ----------------------- STRATEGY --------------------------------------------- *IF YOU PLAY AS DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Playing as Dante is a little tricky. Now you can use either Handguns or Shotgun. I don't force you to choose one. But it'll better if you choose a firearm which has been powered up more. Then just stay on the building terrace and shoot at him like hell. Try shooting and dodging the Infested Chopper's attacks at the same time. It mainly casts Assault Missiles or White Beams to annoy you. Refer to "Infested Chopper's Attacks" to know how to dodge. If your DT is filled, have Dante transform to increase the damage of your shots. It's really a great idea if you can make Dante DDT (Desperate Devil Trigger) and fly up (with Aerial Heart equipped) to shoot Divine Beams - which can be considered one of Dante's ultimate attacks. But it's such a danger !!! If you want to cause damage on the chopper with mannual weapons (like swords), here is the chance : Sometimes the Infested Chopper may get lower to attack you. At this time, he is not very far away from the ground, and you can have Dante make a slash-down attack (air-hike and press Triangle). Or you can have Dante perform his Rapid Fire (Refer to "Characters & Their Move List" section). But be careful, since the missiles can hit you anytime. *IF YOU PLAY AS TRISH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Basically the same strategy as playing as Dante. But as I said, Trish is born to help you solve the long-ranged attack problem : You can have her shoot with her guns and cast Round Trip at the same time to damage the chopper more strongly. Round Trip automatically aims at the Infested Chopper no matter where it is. But you have to make sure that there's no obstacle on the way of Round Trip. As you see, there are four pillars on the top of building. And these pillars can prevent Round Trip if it has to go through them. So it's better if you can stand at the centre of the terrace to cast it. Besides, Trish can perform Divine Beams without Desperate DT. Equip the Aerial Heart. Then if you have DT, transform now, have Trish fly up and press Shoot button to make her throw Divine Beams to the chopper. This attack can end the boss very quickly. ----------------------------------- INFESTED CHOPPER'S ATTACKS -------------------------------------------------------- ASSAULT MISSILES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Infested Chopper uses this pretty often. It throws two Missiles at you, And these missiles keep chasing you until they are destroyed. There's one thing is that you can lock on the missile. One handgun shot is enough to destroy a missile. But sometimes you can be so confused to do this. I'd rather dodge. As the two missiles often go together, just try to dodge them. Then they'll be destroyed as they hit the walls or any obstacles they face. But sometimes they can manage to get back to you. At that time, just either shoot them or dodge again. But I guarantee that they will be destroyed by obstacles eventually. You can dodge them by jumping or rolling, depending on how the missiles go. The harder mode you choose, the "smarter" the missiles are. WHITE BEAMS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Infested Chopper fly around you, then casts a lot of white beams toward you. These white beams often go in order (which is usually bunch of lights), and their speed is slow. You can easily dodge these by getting away from them by walking. The harder mode you choose, the more and stronger beams it casts. GATLING GUN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, I find Infested Chopper prefer playing this when he chases after you. But I still list it here, as he still can do this in difficult modes. The chopper has a gatling gun which shoots at moving objects, working as an assault device. So the evasion is to stay away from the place where the shots come. When you are running, Infested Chopper can have this gun continuously shoot at you. If you dodge, it's fine. But if not, you are being damaged until it stops. Pain ?! ============================================================================== ======================================================================== The mission ends. Watch a cool performance of Dante (^_~) ! *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 6 Its extremities reach the sky. Its intestines reflects the colour of darkness. Its name means a tower of misery. "Guidepost for the Hunters" Chapter 6 Clause 2 *************************************************************************** As Dante has just landed down, there are several Infestants which may appear here. So watch out. Have him run to the centre of the city (where you fought the Blood Goats and Puias)... ============================================================================== ======================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : NEFASTURRIS & NEFASVERMIS Difficulty : Medium ----------------------------------------------------- Description : Nefasturris is a giant monster whose name means "Tower of Disaster". Look, it's really "disaster", right ? Nefasvermis, hm, are the little creatures that support Nefasturrir in this battle. But according to the Enemy File in Status, they are the ones who caused the birth of Nefasturris. -------------------- STRATEGY ------------------------------------------------- *IF YOU PLAY AS DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At first, have your strongest gun equipped at keep shooting at it. If you like, you can damage Nefasturris by jumping on and slash down at his face. If you can do this continuously, smoothly and dodge his attacks well, you are still able to get "Showtime" (I did it ^_^ ! It's true). Sometimes you can use Rapid Fire, if you MAKE SURE that Nefasturris WON'T ATTACK you next. What you have to watch out is his Straight Beam. He usually casts this round the battlefield. But it's easy to dodge (Refer to "Nefasturris' Attacks" part). But it does not mean you can despise him. Remember his "Flower Beams" which can kill you instantly if you get most of it. He sometimes casts this when his anger comes to peak. Each time, after a moment, Nefasturris suddenly moves strongly, and has his arm strike on the ground. It's really not an attack (but it's better for you to stay away). He is summoning the Nefasvermises which look like the bats. Just simply shoot at them, as Dante will automatically aim pretty correctly. You'll get red orbs from these creatures killed. But don't forget to attack Nefasturris at the same time. Keep this up until Nefasturris is defeated. IF YOU PLAY AS TRISH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apply the same strategy for Dante. But as Trish, you can shoot at Nefasturris, using Round Trip at the same time to increase the damage. -------------------------------- NEFASTURRIS' ATTACKS ------------------------------------------------------ STRAIGHT BEAM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From his mouth, Nefasturris casts a huge beam which moves round the battlefield following a certain arc and direction. He performs pretty slowly, and as the beams are completely straight, you can easily dodge by jumping or rolling, depending on their directions and their height. If they are too high, you can even just walk. FLOWER BEAMS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wow, this is truly a deadly attack. From Nefasturris' mouth, tons of beams go out like a huge flower. As they are as thick as "daisy flower", it's hard to determine how to dodge this attack. The beams are cast very fast that sometimes you can't even realize that you have been damaged. What I can tell you is to try staying away from his mouth. The Flower Beams are cast when you are very close to him, you surely get tons of damage. As you are staying away from him, if you can walk to the small empty spaces between the single beams, you'll be fine. If not, I'm sorry... NEFASVERMIS SUMMONING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nefasturris moves his huge arm and strikes on the ground. Many Nefasvermises fly out. Just simply stay away and shoot the Nefasvermises. ---------------------------- NEFASVERMIS' ATTACK ---------------------------------------------------- SCRATCH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They fly through you to cause damage. Just simply evade and kill them immediately with guns. ============================================================================== ======================================================================== You have defeated Nerfasturris, but... hey, "I'm not dead yet"... ============================================================================== ======================================================================== BOSS FIGHT : NEFASCAPITIS Difficulty : Medium/Hard --------------------------------------------- Description : Alternate form of Nefasturris after being defeated. Its name means "Head of Disaster". ------------------ STRATEGY ------------------------------------------------ *IF YOU PLAY AS DANTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When Nefascapitis is flying, just shoot at him with your strongest guns, dodging his attacks the same time (Refer to "Nefascapitis' Attacks" part for how to dodge). When Nefascapitis lands on the ground, that means he's going to cast Flower Beams toward you. QUICKLY dash to HIS BACK - where you are completely safe from his beams. Then give him some combos. If you are fast, you can give a Six-hit Combo and three single hits. Then he flies. Just repeat the strategy. Watch out his attacks, especially they are more much dangereous in difficult modes. *IF YOU PLAY AS TRISH ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apply the same strategy for Dante. But with Trish, you can have her shoot and cast Round Trip to Nefascapitis at the same time. Multi-stab Combo is pretty good against him. You can have her DT and cast Divine Beams to finish the battle more quickly. ---------------------------------- NEFASCAPITIS' ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------- FLOWER BEAMS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nefascapitis only does this when he lands on the ground. Just like Nefasturris, tons of beams go out from his mouth like a huge flower. What I can tell you is to try staying away from his mouth. If the Flower Beams are cast when you are very close to him, you surely get tons of damage. In this battle, the coolest way to dodge this attack is to roll to his back. Hehehe, if you do promptly, you are completely safe from him and just freely beat him as much as you can, until he floats up. LIGHTNING BALLS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the first hit he uses after floating up. From his mouth, several Lightning Balls are cast. The harder mode you choose, the more and stronger balls he blows. You can normally dodge this by rolling aside or jumping. In Must Die, he blows a lot of them with high speed, which requires you to dodge better and more skillfully. VERTICAL SPARKS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Several Vertical Sparks run to you gradually. Simply flip aside to dodge them. HORIZONTAL SPARKS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Several Horizontal Sparks run to you gradually. Dodging this is a bit harder than Vertical Spark : Jump over the coming sparks. DIAGONAL SPARKS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It seems that Nefascapitis uses this in Hard and Must Die mode. Several Diagonal Sparks gradually come to you. You can flip to its opposite side or stay away to dodge them. SYNTHESIS SPARKS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are two forms of Synthesis Sparks which you can see the most often: + Vertical Sparks + Horizontal Sparks : Nefascapitis casts these two at the same time. That means you have to combine flipping aside and jumping. First, just flip aside to dodge the Vertical Sparks. Then jump as the horizontal ones come. It's not easy, but you'll be able to do it better if you practice. + Vertical Sparks + Horizontal Sparks + Diagonal Sparks : Nefascapitis uses this in Must Die mode. Let's see, he casts three of the above sparks. You have to combine various ways of dodging to evade : dodging to avoid vertical and diagonal ones, jumping for the horizontal ones. SYNTHESIS ATTACK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is Nefascapitis's the most dangerous attack : Lightning Balls + Vertical Sparks + Horizontal Sparks + Diagonal Sparks = This Synthesis Attack !!! He only uses this attack in Must Die mode. Well, I really don't have ideas. What I have to tell you has been all written above. Now you have to combine all various ways for each of the attack of dodging, as I said above , to deal with this synthesis. Good luck to you ! ============================================================================== ======================================================================== Well, finally, you did it... *************************************************************************** DANTE - MISSION 7 A
