Copyright Information ############################################################################### 1) Introduction to Sonic & Knuckles ############################################################################### After I started writing a FAQ/Walkthrough for Sonic Mega Collection, I decided to write one for Sonic & Knuckles. This FAQ/Walkthrough covers the original Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. ############################################################################### 2) Version History ############################################################################### Version 1.0, 4th September 2004: Completed Walkthrough. Version 1.1, 30th October 2004: Updated Table of Contents. ############################################################################### 3) Story ############################################################################### The last time Sonic and Robotnik went head-to-head, Sonic blasted Robotnik’s Death Egg to smithereens. The explosion heaved Sonic deep into Floating Island’s Mushroom Hills! Sonic knows that many Emeralds, including the Master Emerald, are hidden somewhere on Floating Island. He bets this Knuckles character knows where they are! Sonic can’t let Robotnik get his hands on the Master Emerald. He’d have Death Egg fuel forever - and Floating Island would be destroyed. Now Sonic’s got two problems. How to protect the Master Emerald? And how to keep Knuckles off his back? He’ll have to deal with that wild echidna right away! Knuckles has problems, too. As Guardian of the Floating Island and all the Emeralds, Knuckles has a mission - to wage war on all invaders. Whoever threw that bomb is in DEEP trouble. Knuckles is ready with tricks, traps and bare-fisted attacks to keep Floating Island safe. Sonic’s not taking any changes. Neither is Knuckles! But while they’re going the rounds with each other, who’s stopping Dr. Robotnik? Could this be the end of Floating Island? ############################################################################### 4) Characters ############################################################################### Sonic The Hedgehog: The world’s fastest supersonic hedgehog unrivalled in speed returns once more to relive his adventures on the Sega Mega Drive system. He’s basically easygoing, but when he gets fired up over an injustice, his anger explodes with surprising consequences. Always at the receiving end of this aggression is arch-enemy Dr. Robotnik, whose fiendish plans to conquer the world are constantly being foiled by Sonic. Miles “Tails” Prower: Don’t let his docile appearance deceive you. This cute twin-tailed fox is an absolute mecha-maniac with skills rivalling those of Dr. Robotnik. He first debuted in Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Knuckles The Echidna: Knuckles is the guardian of the Floating Island and all its Emeralds. Knuckles was born and raised on the Floating Island, and he knows all its secrets. He’s strong, athletic and clever. Because Knuckles knows every hidden passageway on the island, it’s easy for him to block Sonic’s path, create extra obstacles, set traps and steal Sonic’s Gold Rings. Knuckles will make quite a few appearances in Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. Dr. Ivo Robotnik: Dr. Robotnik is an evil scientist with an IQ of 300. A renowned authority on robotics, Robotnik has managed to trick Knuckles, the Guardian of the Floating Island and of all the Emeralds, into thinking that Sonic & Tails are after the Emeralds. While Knuckles deals with Sonic & Tails, the doc plans to use the Master Emerald to give his Death Egg the ability to fly again. Once Robotnik has finished repairing his Death Egg, the Master Emerald will be his for the taking. Can Sonic stop Robotnik from stealing the Master Emerald and launching his Death Egg? ############################################################################### 5) Walkthrough (Sonic) ############################################################################### For these levels, I will only be giving hints and tips on how to complete them. I won’t be giving a full walkthrough on getting through them since you won’t enjoy this game as much if you know where the next obstacle is. For the boss battles, I will list how many hits it takes to defeat, where it is located and one or two strategies on how to defeat it. ******************************************************************************* A. Level 1: Mushroom Hill Zone ******************************************************************************* Act 1: After Sonic blasted Robotnik’s Death Egg to smithereens, the explosion heaved Sonic deep into the Mushroom Hill Zone while the Death Egg crash landed in the Lava Reef Zone. The mushrooms, seesaws and handles can help you travel through the level. Run directly into the handles first before pressing the A button to be sent flying over to the right. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Woodcutter Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Mushroom Hill Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight The machine will throw logs at you in a vertical direction. If you have the Fire Shield, hit it from below to destroy. Alternatively, wait for it to come down before jumping on top of it to attack it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: As you continue through the level, Knuckles will activate a switch to send you flying into an Autumn version of Mushroom Hill. Continue onward until you come across a handle. Run into it to move over to the circles. Keep running and use the winches to travel to Robotnik’s lair. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Satellite Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Mushroom Hill Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight When you arrive in the arena, you’ll notice a satellite emitting sound waves. Attack it to reveal Robotnik’s ship underneath it. He’ll fly away from you. Chase after him into an obstacle course. Jump over the spikes, and hit Robotnik while avoiding the jet’s engines. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robotnik’s machine starts to explode, but Robotnik still isn’t worried. However, his machine soon crashes into a tree and it falls apart. After destroying the Prison Egg, Sonic looks up as the Flying Battery blimp flies past. Suddenly, Robotnik rushes past in his Egg Pod and enters the flying fortress. Sonic immediately jumps onto the blimp. ************************************************** Level 2: Flying Battery Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Quite a change from the nature of the Mushroom Hill Zone. Going up and down the platforms is the only way to get through this level. When you arrive outside the battleship, jump from each of the platforms to reach the next area. Near the end of the act, wait for the missiles to destroy the floor to continue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Prison Egg Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Flying Battery Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Jump onto the Prison Egg to activate it. Two robotic arms will be revealed. This is another one of those bosses that must be tricked into destroying itself. Stay on the top of the machine until it prepares to attack. Run off the machine, and one of the arms should attack it by mistake. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: When the machines lift the spiked balls, move across as quickly as possible. If they are lifting platforms, wait until they stop before crossing them to avoid being crushed. Watch out for the Prison Egg machines that contain badniks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Laser Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Flying Battery Zone Hits to Destroy: Seven Like the Wing Fortress Zone, Robotnik unleashes a laser machine on you. This time, however, you can’t destroy it. You must make it destroy itself. Each time it fires a laser, it will damage itself and cause the room to cave in. Eventually, the machine will explode and Robotnik will run off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the path, and a platform will start ascending. Keep running until you arrive at the final spikes. The platform will take you up into the skies where Dr. Robotnik appears to battle you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Flamethrower Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Flying Battery Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight When Robotnik starts swinging up and down, attack him two times before returning to the left-hand side of the screen. Robotnik will move towards you, so jump over to the other side. Avoid his flamethrower until he starts swinging again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Sonic rolls off the edge of the battleship and lands in the Sandopolis Zone. ************************************************** Level 3: Sandopolis Zone ************************************************** Act 1: No desert has shiftier sands than this treacherous terrain. Play the sands to your advantage. Time your attack on the Skorp just right. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Guardian of the Pyramid --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sandopolis Zone Hits to Destroy: N/A The Guardian seems to be impossible to destroy, but there is a solution. If you can trick it into jumping into the quicksand, the Guardian will be finished. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: This is the darkest act in the game (literally). When you release the ghosts, you’ll have to activate the light switches to protect Sonic from them. As you are going down a slope, jump over to the next one to continue onward. Keep moving at all times. This act is very long and could cost you a life if you run out of time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Ancient Statue --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sandopolis Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight You will be trapped in a huge room with Robotnik in his machine. Robotnik will start moving towards you and he will charge up his laser cannon. Jump onto the arms in front of the screen and hit the laser cannon. The statue will fall apart, revealing Robotnik in his Egg Pod. Attack Robotnik two times and retreat before the statue re-connects itself to Robotnik’s Egg Pod. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Sonic falls into the Lava Reef Zone. ************************************************** Level 4: Lava Reef Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Dr. Robotnik is repairing his Death Egg ship somewhere in this level, and it’s up to Sonic to find him and stop him. The majority of the landscape here is full of lava. Spin Dash your way through the rocks, and wait for the platforms to rise before continuing onward. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: The Robotic Hand --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Lava Reef Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Avoid the projectiles from the wheels, and attack them when you get a chance. When the robotic hand makes an appearance, run back and forth until it pounds the ground. Attack it to face the wheels once again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: This act is nearly the same as Act 1, except the lava has been frozen. As you near the end of the act, you will come across some stairs. Climb them to confront Knuckles, who pushes a boulder down the stairs. You will fall down a hole and land above a pool of lava. Unfortunately, this is the location where Robotnik shows off the power of his Death Egg ship by firing its death rays at you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Fireproof Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Lava Reef Zone Hits to Destroy: Fourteenth Robotnik appears in the background and fires six missiles at you. Jump across the platforms to avoid the missiles and pass the Star Post. Get a Fire Shield first before jumping down onto a platform. Eventually, Robotnik will appear from underneath the lava. He’ll shoot some mines to attack you. Jump to different platforms while avoiding the mines. The mines will attack Robotnik instead of you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, follow the path to enter the Hidden Palace Zone. ************************************************** Level 5: Hidden Palace Zone ************************************************** Now that Robotnik has repaired the Death Egg, Sonic must stop him from stealing the Master Emerald. This is the easiest and shortest level in the game mainly because its purpose is to reveal Robotnik’s true colours to Knuckles. Take the transportation device to teleport to the next area. After passing the Star Post, study the ancient scriptures that house information about Knuckles’ origins if you want to. As you near the emerald chamber, the echidna challenges you to a battle. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Knuckles The Echidna --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Hidden Palace Zone Hits to Defeat: Eight Knuckles can Spin Dash, glide and Spin Attack you, but he’s not as fast as Sonic. Try to attack him when he is standing still. When he starts gliding, hit him from behind to score a hit against him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, you hear an explosion occur. When Knuckles runs off to investigate, chase after him and you’ll realise that you’re too late - Robotnik has stolen the Master Emerald! Knuckles attempts to stop him, but Robotnik electrocutes him before making his escape. The floor collapses and you land in another area. Knuckles awakens and demolishes the wall. He’ll lead you to another transportation device, so jump into it to be transported to the Sky Sanctuary Zone. ************************************************** Level 6: Sky Sanctuary Zone ************************************************** Act 1: The Death Egg has been launched! It is powered by the Master Emerald and piloted by Robotnik. As the Death Egg ascends, Knuckles activates a switch to reveal a bridge. Metal Sonic will appear to fight you three times, so be prepared. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Metal Sonic’s Ball and Chain Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sky Sanctuary Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight This boss will look familiar to Sonic 1 players, because it is the same boss from Sonic 1’s Green Hill Zone. First, hit Metal Sonic until he reveals his machine. Secondly, stand underneath the ledges and wait for Metal Sonic to turn around in the opposite direction. Finally, hit Metal Sonic two times and repeat this strategy until Metal Sonic retreats. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Metal Sonic’s Laser Shooter Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sky Sanctuary Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight This boss originated from Sonic 2’s Metropolis Zone. If you are playing as Sonic, use the Shield attack to hit Metal Sonic without taking any damage. If you are playing as Tails, hit Metal Sonic when the spheres don’t cover his ship. If you can’t do this, hit Metal Sonic, re-collect your rings, hit him again and repeat this strategy. If all the spheres are destroyed, Metal Sonic will come down to you and fire a laser at you. Hit him one more time and he will retreat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Metal Sonic --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sky Sanctuary Zone Hits to Defeat: Eight Metal Sonic is a newer version of Sliver Sonic from Sonic 2’s Death Egg Zone. After destroying the teleporter, Metal Sonic appears on the right-hand side of the screen. You can only hit Metal Sonic when he stops moving. You cannot hit him when he Spin Dashes and jumps around the screen. Once you defeat Metal Sonic, he short-circuits and the level ends. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sonic runs up a circular platform and sees the Death Egg rising up. He immediately jumps aboard it. ************************************************** Level 7: Death Egg Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Sonic has made it to the Death Egg, and his objectives are to destroy it and retrieve the stolen Master Emerald. This Death Egg is even more dangerous than the one from Sonic 2, but it isn’t too difficult to get through when compared to the final zones in the Sonic Advance games. Near the end of the first act, you’ll end in a chamber with a large metal device. You’ll have to press the six switches on it before you can continue through the act. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: The Robotic Eye --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Death Egg Zone Hits to Destroy: Sixteen When the boss is moving the balls slowly around, attack it once. As the balls explode, pieces of them will attack. After eight hits, the body of the eye will be destroyed and the eye itself will attack. Hit it once before running in the opposite direction. Duck to evade the spiked platforms. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Robotnik’s Death Egg has made it into outer space and now that it’s severely damaged, you will be faced with reversed gravity. Near the start of the act when you are floating inside a tube, take the eastern route to have an easier time completing this level. To change the gravity, use the anti-gravity pipes to go up and down the Death Egg. Always use the sound wave machines in this act because the act is much more difficult to complete without them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Shielded Sphere Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Death Egg Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Robotnik’s machine stops all your attacks, so how do you destroy it? It’s actually simple really. When you see the spiked machines being released, enter one of the anti-gravity tubes and one of them should hit the machine. Unfortunately, the small machines explode into pieces afterwards, so you’ll have to run into one of the tubes again to avoid them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robotnik’s plan to destroy Sonic backfires on him literally. Follow the mad doctor, and he’ll activate a giant robot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Giant Robot, Round 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Death Egg Zone Hits to Destroy: Eighteen Run to the end of the screen and the robot will appear from the left. Robotnik plans to crush you, using the robot’s fingers. You can either hit them individually or you can spin dash them from the middle of the screen. Repeat until all the fingers are destroyed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Giant Robot, Round 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Death Egg Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Robotnik appears on the left-hand side of the screen and the Death Egg begins to fall apart. Dodge the flamethrower and hit the robot. This reveals the power source of the robot - the Master Emerald! Hit the Emerald and return to the right-hand side of the screen. Wait for the laser cannon to charge up and then jump up immediately. Repeat this strategy seven more times and the robot will begin to explode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Emerald Grabber Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Death Egg Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Robotnik decides to cut his losses and escape with the Master Emerald. Keep running forward because the Death Egg is falling apart. Catch up with Robotnik and hit him, but make sure you stay moving forwards. Eventually, he’ll drop the Emerald and make his escape. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************************************** Level 8: Doomsday Zone ************************************************** When the Death Egg exploded, Robotnik stole the Master Emerald while Sonic was distracted. You can only access this zone if you have collected all seven Chaos Emeralds. As Super Sonic, you must fly through the asteroid field to retrieve the Master Emerald from Robotnik. Keep collecting any rings you see - you need them to stay alive. Eventually, you will catch up with Robotnik in his spaceship. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Spaceship --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Doomsday Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight You don’t have much time to beat this boss, so let’s get started. First, head towards to the front of the ship and avoid the small projectiles that Robotnik is shooting at you. When you make it to the front of the ship, Robotnik will fire three missiles at you. Run away from the missiles and trick them into hitting the metal part of the spaceship. After eight hits, the spaceship falls from space and it explodes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Dr. Robotnik’s Giant Robot --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Doomsday Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Robotnik appears in a giant robot and he runs for it with the Master Emerald. This boss will look familiar to Sonic 2 players because it is the same boss from Sonic 2’s Death Egg Zone. This time, however, Robotnik will only shoot missiles at you and he will be constantly trying to run away from you. Charge forward (by using the B Button) and run into Robotnik. You will fall back a little and Robotnik will continue running away. Keep collecting rings and hit him seven more times to finish him off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations! You have completed Sonic & Knuckles! Now enjoy the ending. ################################################## 6) Walkthrough (Knuckles) ################################################## For these levels, I will only be giving hints and tips on how to complete them. If you can trick it into jumping into the quicksand, the Guardian will be finished. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: This is the darkest act in the game (literally). Since Knuckles’ adventure takes place after Sonic’s, the ghosts have already being released. Use the light switches to protect Knuckles from them. As you are going down a slope, jump over to the next one to continue onward. Keep moving at all times. This act is very long and could cost you a life if you run out of time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Ancient Statue --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sandopolis Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight You will be trapped in a huge room with Eggrobo in his machine. Eggrobo will start moving towards you and he will charge up his laser cannon. Jump onto the arms in front of the screen and hit the laser cannon. The statue will fall apart, revealing Eggrobo in his Egg Pod. Attack Eggrobo two times and retreat before the statue re-connects itself to Eggrobo’s Egg Pod. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Knuckles enters the Lava Reef Zone. ************************************************** Level 4: Lava Reef Zone ************************************************** Act 1: The majority of the landscape here is full of lava. Spin Dash your way through the rocks, and wait for the platforms to rise before continuing onward. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: The Robotic Hand --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Lava Reef Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Avoid the projectiles from the wheels, and attack them when you get a chance. When the robotic hand makes an appearance, run back and forth until it pounds the ground. Attack it to face the wheels once again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: This act is nearly the same as Act 1, except the lava has been frozen. As you near the end of the act, you will come across some stairs. Climb them to find the entrance to the Hidden Palace Zone. ************************************************** Level 5: Hidden Palace Zone ************************************************** This is the easiest and shortest level in the game. Knuckles doesn’t even have to battle anything. Just run to the end and use the teleporter to transport Knuckles to the Sky Sanctuary Zone. ************************************************** Level 6: Sky Sanctuary Zone ************************************************** When you arrive at the Sky Sanctuary, Eggrobo appears in its machine. It’s impossible to attack it, so allow it to grab you and fly you over to Metal Sonic. Knuckles breaks free from the Eggrobo’s grasp, and Metal Sonic destroys it by mistake. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Metal Sonic, Round 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sky Sanctuary Zone Hits to Defeat: Eight Annoyed that Knuckles is still alive, Metal Sonic jumps across the screen. Avoid Metal Sonic’s attacks and keep hitting him when he is standing still. After eight hits, Metal Sonic short-circuits, but he isn’t finished battling… --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Metal Sonic, Round 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sky Sanctuary Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Metal Sonic comes back to life and he heads towards the Master Emerald. Knuckles follows him and he witnesses Metal Sonic using the power of the Master Emerald to transform into Super Metal Sonic. Metal Sonic will fly across the screen and he will do three attacks. The first attack is Metal Sonic firing death rays from his chest. These death rays are easy to avoid. The second attack is Metal Sonic charging towards you. Jump to the right to avoid this attack. The third attack is Metal Sonic firing rings at you. These rings are easy to avoid. Metal Sonic will only use this attack if he has sustained six hits. After six hits, Metal Sonic will not return to the Master Emerald for re-charging. Instead, he will float across the screen while shooting rings. You can then only hit him when he turns back into Metal Sonic. After two more hits, Metal Sonic will explode and the Sky Sanctuary Zone will be destroyed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations! You have completed Sonic & Knuckles! Now enjoy the ending. ################################################## 7) Introduction to Sonic 3 & Knuckles ################################################## Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the game that Sonic Team intended to release instead of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, but Sega wanted the game to released as soon as possible, so Sonic Team had to divide the game into two parts. I am doing only Knuckles’ adventure since Sonic & Tails’ adventure is the same. The only differences for Sonic and Tails are that there is no third final boss in the Launch Base Zone, there are more Giant Rings in the Mushroom Hill Zone and it is easier to collect the seven Chaos Emeralds in the Special Stages than it was in the original Sonic 3. ################################################## 8) Walkthrough (Knuckles) ################################################## For these levels, I will only be giving hints and tips on how to complete them. I won’t be giving a full walkthrough on getting through them since you won’t enjoy this game as much if you know where the next obstacle is. For the boss battles, I will list how many hits it takes to defeat, where it is located and one or two strategies on how to defeat it. ************************************************** Level 1: Angel Island Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Knuckles’ route through Act 1 is the same, but getting to the first boss isn’t. If you played as Sonic or Tails in this level before, you might remember some rocks blocking a pathway before the boss. Since Knuckles can’t jump as high as the two heroes, break through the rocks to face the boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Bomber Ship --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Angel Island Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight This boss will hover around the screen and launch three missiles at you. Run to avoid them and watch out for the flamethrower. When the bomber ship descends, attack it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Knuckles’ route through Act 2 is completely different to Sonic and Tails’. Use Knuckles’ gliding and climbing skills to get through it. When you break through a pile of rocks, you’ll meet up with Eggrobo. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Fireball Shooter Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Angel Island Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight This is the mainly the same boss for Sonic and Tails’ adventure, so I’ll just copy my strategy. Hit Eggrobo once before running over to the right. Eggrobowill drop a fireball onto the bridge causing it to collapse. Eggrobo will now disappear behind the waterfall and materialise on the right-hand side of the screen. Once Eggrobo shoots his fireballs at you, jump to dodge them. Now keep attacking Eggrobo until he disappears again. He’ll reappear again and shoot more fireballs at you. After that, keep attacking Eggrobo to finish him off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Knuckles enters the Hydrocity Zone. ************************************************** Level 2: Hydrocity Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Knuckles lands in the Hydrocity Zone and now he must travel through the underwater regions of the island. Use the bubbles to prevent Knuckles from drowning. Be on the lookout for badniks and use the switches to activate the fans. Eventually, you will find yourself trapped in a room with a machine. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Whirlpool Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Hydrocity Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight When the machine charges towards you, Spin Dash in the opposite direction to evade its attack. After a while, the machine will connect itself to the pillar directly above you and start creating a whirlpool. Attack the machine now to destroy it. If the machine takes off again, wait until it reconnects itself to the pillar before finishing it off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Knuckles is sent down to another part of the level. Spin dash the walls to destroy them and continue until you make it to the first lamp-post of the second act. A wall will move towards you. Stay calm and keep moving forward. Spin dash the walls and don’t go too fast. Watch out for Robotnik’s traps and eventually the wall will stop moving towards you. Use your Spin dash attack to land on top of the pillar and continue through the level. Avoid Robotnik’s badniks and watch out for his traps. Eventually, Eggrobo will appear in his machine. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Waterspout Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Hydrocity Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Eggrobo activates his machine which can draw you directly into the waterspout. Run in the opposite direction to avoid being sucked in. After a while, Eggrobo will change his tactics and drop some bombs on top of you. When the bombs explode, jump onto the vertical water jets that they release to get a chance to hit Eggrobo. You’ll ascend over the screen and ram Eggrobo’s ship if you’re lucky. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************************************** Level 3: Marble Garden Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Knuckles land in the Marble Garden Zone and now he must explore an ancient city. At the start of the level, a Tunnelbot badnik will appear and cause an earthquake. You will have the chance to deal with this badnik later so continue through the level. Use the blue cones to fly to different parts of the level. Watch out for Robotnik’s traps and his badniks. Avoid the spiked maize by waiting for it to go upwards and then run past it. Keep jumping to avoid sinking in the quicksand and use your Spin Dash attack to break through the walls. Eventually you will fight a boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Tunnelbot --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Marble Garden Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight The Tunnelbot will cause an earthquake. Try to avoid the rocks if you can. When the robot returns, jump onto the platform and ram it as it descends from above. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Use the gravelling hooks to move through the level. After a while, Eggrobo will appear at the right-hand side of the screen and he will cause an earthquake to happen. Eggrobo will then leave the scene, so continue through the level. Use the blue cones to break through the walls and watch out for more of Robotnik’s traps. Hit the arrow machines three times to defeat them and continue through the level. As you near the end of the act, you’ll realise that Knuckles can’t destroy the final arrow machine. Go left and climb up the walls. There is an entrance at the top to another area. When you get there, Eggrobo will cause another earthquake. Reveal the pathway to confront Eggrobo. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Jet Drill Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Marble Garden Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight This boss can be easy to defeat as long as you have plenty of rings. Eggrobo will be drilling in every direction to attack you. The barbed wire and the jet engine is dangerous. Hit Eggrobo’s head each time you have a chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Knuckles enters the Carnival Night Zone. ************************************************** Level 4: Carnival Night Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Knuckles arrives at the Carnival Night Zone and now he must bounce and flip their way through this colourful zone which is filled with anti-gravity platforms. Watch out for Robotnik’s traps and his badniks. Keep jumping on the red platform to make it to the other side. Use the balloons and cannons to move across the level. Eventually you will encounter a boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Self Destruct Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Carnival Night Zone Hits to Destroy: Four To beat this boss, you must trick it into destroying itself. When the main body of the machine is open and extended, ram it once. As the blade attempts to reconnect itself to the machine, you’ll score a hit. Repeat this strategy until the machine explodes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: After a few minutes, Knuckles will enter a different route. Unlike Sonic and Tails, Knuckles doesn’t have to get past the red drum to complete this act. When you run through some tubes, you’ll be sent hovering over to the Prison Egg. This isn’t a trap. Destroy it to finish the level. Go over to the right and use the transportation device to transport Knuckles to the Icecap Zone. ************************************************** Level 5: Icecap Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Break through the walls and watch out for Robotnik’s traps and his badniks. Keep running to get past the obstacles in the level. Use your Spin Dash attack to move the ledges. Eventually, you will fight the boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Iceball Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Icecap Zone Hits to Destroy: Five When the machine encircles itself with ice balls, make sure Knuckles is on the right-hand side of the screen. After a while, the ice balls will fly into the air and drop down shortly afterwards. Attack the machine, and you might be able to destroy it. If not, wait for it to repeat its moves. Now finish it off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Continue through the level and try to stay on the surface of the level. Avoid Robotnik’s ice traps and his badniks. Keep jumping on the springs to get up to the next part of the level. Watch out for the walls that can crush you and avoid running too fast. Eventually, Eggrobo will appear in his ship. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Freeze-O-Matic --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Icecap Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight As Eggrobo heads towards you, an icy spray will be fired from his machine. Jump onto the platform and hit Eggrobo quickly before jumping off it. Now wait for Eggrobo to fire the spray underneath his machine to attack him again. If you get hit by the spray, you’ll be frozen into an ice block and you’ll lose all your rings. After hitting Eggrobo seven times, the platform will apart and Eggrobo will fly towards you. Hit him one more time to cause the Freeze-O-Matic to explode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, use the Spin Dash to create a tunnel leading to the Launch Base Zone. ************************************************** Level 6: Launch Base Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Knuckles emerges in the Launch Base Zone where Dr. Robotnik was repairing his Death Egg ship until Sonic blasted it to smithereens. There’s no Death Egg in the background this time since Sonic has finally destroyed it. While he is here, Knuckles decides to wipe every trace of Robotnik from his world, but first he must start with the Launch Base. Watch out for Robotnik’s traps and his badniks. Use the elevators to move across to different parts of the level. Be on the lookout for flamethrower machines and run slowly through this level. Eventually, you’ll come across a huge building. Climb up it and activate the switch to meet the boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Swinging Spike Machines --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Launch Base Zone Hits to Destroy: Twelve This boss is easy to beat when you know how. When the machines stop swinging, hit the left or right side of it to attack it. Continue hitting them, and one of the maces will be destroyed. Now keep attacking them until they explode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Continue through the level and approach each part of the level with caution. Watch out for Robotnik’s traps and his badniks. Use the gravelling hooks to move through the level. Be on the lookout for lasers and use air bubbles to avoid drowning. Time your moves carefully and you will make it to the end of this long and dangerous level. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Laser Shooter Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Launch Base Zone Hits to Destroy: Nine Eggrobo will rise up from the right in his ship, firing lasers at Sonic. Ram his ship four times to destroy two of his lasers before he drops down again. Ram him another four times to destroy all four of his lasers before he appears again. After one more hit, Eggrobo’s machine will explode and Eggrobo will retreat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eggrobo flies up in his Egg Pod and returns in his most dangerous machine yet! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Spiked Grabber Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Launch Base Zone Hits to Destroy: Twelve Eggrobo appears from the upper right in his machine. Stay in the centre of the screen and leap to the right and hit his ship. Eggrobo will then appear from the upper left so hit him again and he will change his tactics. Eggrobo will now go left and right above Knuckles before swooping down into the centre of the screen. Jump left and right to avoid the deadly spikes. Eggrobo will now repeat his above moves so repeat this strategy. Watch out for the hands which can grab Knuckles and take his rings. Eventually Eggrobo’s machine will explode and Eggrobo will retreat… for good. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Eggrobo returns in his Egg Pod and drops a bomb onto the platform Knuckles is standing on. The bomb explodes causing the Launch Base to be engulfed in flames. Knuckles falls off the platform and lands in the Mushroom Hill Zone. ************************************************** Level 7: Mushroom Hill Zone ************************************************** Act 1: With the Launch Base Zone destroyed, Knuckles continues his search for Eggrobo in the Mushroom Hill Zone. The mushrooms, seesaws and handles can help you travel through the level. Run directly into the handles first before pressing the A button to be sent flying over to the right. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Woodcutter Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Mushroom Hill Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight The machine will throw logs at you in every direction. If you have the Fire Shield, hit it from below to destroy. Alternatively, wait for it to come down before jumping on top of it to attack it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: Continue onward until you come across a handle. Run into it to move over to the circles. Keep running and use the winches to travel to Eggrobo’s lair. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Satellite Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Mushroom Hill Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight When you arrive in the arena, you’ll notice a satellite emitting sound waves. Attack it to reveal Eggrobo’s ship underneath it. He’ll fly away from you. Chase after him into an obstacle course. Jump over the spikes, and hit Eggrobo while avoiding the jet’s engines. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eggrobo’s machine starts to explode, but Eggrobo still isn’t worried. However, his machine soon crashes into a tree and it falls apart. After destroying the Prison Egg, Knuckles looks up as the Flying Battery blimp flies past. Suddenly, Eggrobo rushes past in his Egg Pod and enters the flying fortress. Knuckles immediately jumps onto the blimp. ************************************************** Level 8: Flying Battery Zone ************************************************** Act 1: Quite a change from the nature of the Mushroom Hill Zone. Going up and down the platforms is the only way to get through this level. When you arrive outside the battleship, jump from each of the platforms to reach the next area. Near the end of the act, wait for the missiles to destroy the floor to continue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Prison Egg Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Flying Battery Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight Jump onto the Prison Egg to activate it. Two robotic arms will be revealed. This is another one of those bosses that must be tricked into destroying itself. Stay on the top of the machine until it prepares to attack. Run off the machine, and one of the arms should attack it by mistake. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Act 2: When the machines lift the spiked balls, move across as quickly as possible. If they are lifting platforms, wait until they stop before crossing them to avoid being crushed. Watch out for the Prison Egg machines that contain badniks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Laser Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Flying Battery Zone Hits to Destroy: Seven Like the Wing Fortress Zone, Eggrobo unleashes a laser machine on you. This time, however, you can’t destroy it. You must make it destroy itself. Each time it fires a laser, it will damage itself and cause the room cave in. Eventually, the machine will explode and Eggrobo will run off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the path, and a platform will start ascending. Keep running until you arrive at the final spikes. The platform will take you up into the skies where Eggrobo appears to battle you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Eggrobo’s Flamethrower Machine --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Flying Battery Zone Hits to Destroy: Eight When Eggrobo starts swinging up and down, attack him two times before returning the left-hand side of the screen. Eggrobo will move towards you, so jump over to the other side. Avoid his flamethrower until he starts swinging again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After destroying the Prison Egg, Knuckles rolls off the edge of the battleship and lands in the Sandopolis Zone. ************************************************** Level 9: Sandopolis Zone ************************************************** Act 1: No desert has shiftier sands than this treacherous terrain. Play the sands to your advantage. Time your attack on the Skorp just right. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOSS FIGHT: Guardian of the Pyramid --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Location: Sandopolis Zone Hits to Destroy: N/A The Guardian seems to be impossible to destroy, but there is a solution.
