Forget It. It's a Rip-Off!

Where do I start? Myth Makers: Orbs of Doom seems like the result of an evil marketing plan where they produce ridiculously bad games and sell them at a low price to fool those eager to buy new games without spending too much money. That's why we have to review this kind of game: to make sure you won't make the mistake of dropping your twenty bucks in one of these. Just double your money and your gaming experience will be twenty times better at least!

Myth Makers: Orbs of Doom is a new version of full-fledged games like Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and Kororinpa: Marble Mania. Sinister Rebus has trapped the characters inside glass orbs, and the objective is to save them all by reaching the different goals. In the game you'll be controlling a character that rolls inside a bubble, and you have to try to get it to the goal by keeping balance and overcoming handicaps like narrow ledges, tricky curves, and other numerous obstacles. Like the previously mentioned games, it tries to take advantage of the Wii motion controls; however, it didn't do it successfully. By moving the Wii remote you'll control the ball and make it spin all over the place. Depending on the upcoming obstacles and the path in front of you, you'll have to tilt the controller towards one side or the other, up or down, etc. in order to make the ball move and advance towards the goal.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't control smoothly per se. The way you tilt the controller doesn't always correspond with the proper moves the ball should do. Sometimes you'll tilt it slightly and the ball will go crazy on you. Other times, you'll tilt it enough to reach the other side and the ball will try to go a different way. Luckily you can use the B button to brake and avoid a catastrophe. Climbing a ramp might be really easy sometimes and then other times it will drive you absolutely mad! You might be all the way at the top and trying to get to the next part of the stage, and all of a sudden your character decides to turn around and maybe even slide down the ramp you had just climbed. That's the kind of frustration you'll be dealing with if you put your hands on this game. Modesty aside, I'm actually pretty good at Super Monkey Ball and Kororinpa, so I wasn't having a hard time because I don't know how to play! The game is simply poorly designed. You've been advised.

The game contains five not-so-thrilling worlds split into 40 different levels. You can play each of them at any time once you unlock them, in case you have enough free time to continue playing it and want to beat your high scores. You can play in Time Attack mode, where there's a limited amount of time to beat the level; Star Challenge, which also has a time limit and requires gathering ten red stars before you can reach the gate; and Normal mode, with no time limits or stars to pick up. There's also a multiplayer mode that allows up to four people to compete. This uses the split-screen method so all players can stay focused on their own portion of the screen and roll their way to the goal before the others get there.
