While on a break away, hold Speedburst then hold X for a slap shot. Take the shot at an angle to score a lot of the time.
Put all the best players on a team, then make a franchise and play. Near the end of the year (season or playoffs), make all your players bad and sign them to get them for cheap.
To avoid bad phone calls, just save the game and answer the call. If it is a bad call, reload the game and try again.
