Note power-ups activate when you play a glowing purple note, which once again are strewn across all five note streams. They are all quirky one-time effects that help to boost your score. For example, one note power-up unleashes a pong ball every time you play a purple note. The pong ball will auto-play any note it touches on the screen, and you can bounce it back and forth by switching to the stream it is in as it heads toward you.
Finally, track power-ups are passive effects that activate naturally as you play the game. These can be anything form score multipliers to overdrive boosts and more.
Playing alone is a decent experience, but the real fun comes when you face off against someone, trying to beat their high score. Add some online leaderboards and the ability to unlock even more power-ups as your score increases, and you have a game with a lot of replay value. Rock Band Blitz comes with twenty-five songs, which immediately unlock for play on Rock Band 3 as soon as you purchase the game. Not only that, but you can also play your entire library of downloaded Rock Band songs on Blitz as well.
What you are really paying for here are twenty-five new songs on Rock Band 3. That's probably the biggest value that Blitz has to give. It's just that these songs also come with a pretty awesome strategy game, and that just adds more value. Be on the lookout for Rock Band Blitz when it releases later this year.
