Will try to work as hastily as possible but I am doing this as I go. Got as much of career as I could get done. Don't worry I will also add the course listing with specific tips for each one as well as more information. There is a lot of missing or incomplete information, I know, it is missing for a purpose, it will be all filled in within a few days. Version 0.5.....Update! Yay! Completed the car list, the Exhibition section added more events that I have completed. I'm working on doing track information, with details on shortcuts, how to hit each turn and such. I have a lot of the level rewards done, but not in here yet. I'm sorry for it not being done yet, but I'm waking up early and going to sleep early and trying to get as much done, but I work and have other hobbies. I do appreciate the comments and compliments! I will also add a tuning section thanks to AMDZFan. Version 0.75....Been awhile, thought I would throw up what I have gotten done, most everything is near completion, should be done within a week or two fully, including track details, tuning and whatever else. Enjoy. =============================================================================== Intro FM2-02 =============================================================================== Just a quick introduction. Name is Matt, I love to write walkthroughs and have recently been doing it more often. I'm big into racing and love to work on cars so naturally a racing game is something I am quite fond of. I decided to do a walkthrough for this game since I like it a lot. Really great game. As for this walkthrough, since there are many different cars that you can use for each event, but I will give as much information, tips and insight on what car I used as well as anything else that can help. Also, I will let you know what my set up is. I have no driving line aid on at all, difficulty at Hard, shifting on manual and damage on simulation. I get a 30% bonus for difficulty, the max being 50% but 30% is fine with me and it makes racing a bit easier. Use whatever you would like, the information throughout the walkthrough is based on my stats so it possibly may be easier or harder for you. If there are any concerns, questions, comments...etc feel free to email or message me. Contact information at the end of this guide. =============================================================================== Overview of Forza Motorsport 2 FM2-03 =============================================================================== Being a huge fan of racing games and racing in general of course I would like this game. It came as a bit of a suprise though, since I never played the first Forza game. I like the controls, I like playing with a steering wheel, but I am not too fond of shelling out $150 for it, but the controls make it easy to accelerate while shifting, which Gran Turismo never did correctly. On top of that, the graphics are top notch, the gameplay is top notch as well. I like the damage that you can inflict on your car and engine/components. It makes me, and I'm sure others, drive more fairly and safely since you don't want credits deducted as well to not mess up your engine mid-race. The only issue I really have with it is they have no in game music, yeah I know I can set my Xbox up to stream, but I liked that about Gran Turismo, they had tracks that you really didn't hear outside of Gran Turismo and it was cool to have them in there. Overall I really like the game, I highly recommend it and can't wait to get into the online play, but I'm busy working on this guide and Career/Arcade. If I was to rate it I'd definitely give it a 10/10. =============================================================================== Controls FM2-04 =============================================================================== Standard controls are as follows: A - E-brake X - Gear Down Y - Look Back B - Gear Up RT - Accelerate RB - Change camera LT - Brake LB - Damage/Heat HUD Left Stick - Steering Right Stick - Free look D-Pad - Up/Down turns Telemetry on Telemetry provides real time stats, like PSI of boost, how hot each wheel is, how many G's you are pulling...etc. =============================================================================== Tips FM2-05 =============================================================================== The easiest way to earn credits is to find a good paying race, preferably easy as well, one where you can lap or nearly lap the opponents on hard. Then turn off all driving aids and just take it a bit slower and win the race. If the base pay is $10,000 credits, you will get that, plus a bonus $5,000 if you have all the driving aids off and the difficulty on hard. Plus any rarity bonus for your car. If there is a particular company you like more then others, try to level several of that brands car. Each brand has their own discounts and if you level several of that companies cars the discounts stack. When driving, if you fall behind, try to draft to get ahead of opponents. To draft, stay directly behind the car in front of you, it will give you a slight boost in speed because of the aerodynamic benefits of it. This can help propel you ahead of them and can be useful if you fall behind on your last lap. To get the most out of your car, tune it to the specific races you will use it for. For example, for shorter races you may want to increase your gearing for acceleration compared to speed and vice versa. There are a lot more benefits you can get by individually tuning your cars, it does take a lot of trial and error to get the perfect setup. Though sometimes they may look cheesey or downright dumb, body kits and wings can increase your car's stats as well as give you the benefits of a better aerodynamic car. As stated in the loading menus, when coming out of a turn, carefully ease on the accelerator, putting too much acceleration in will cause the car to slightly lose control, which will slow you down more than it will help you and in some cases can cause you to head off track depending on the turn. Same goes for when coming into a turn, if you are trying to put too much acceleration in a turn, it can worsen the turn causing you to lose a lot of speed and stability. Though this should be known, when going into a tight turn where you need to slow down a lot, for example going from 5th gear to 2nd or 1st, carefully ease on the brake and then fully apply. If you slam on it, or for the matter the button, your brakes will lock up, causing you to lose control of the car and can ultimately cause you to go off course. Lastly, a good idea early on, is when you encounter a longer, or more sophisticated track is to use the braking lines and maybe just do a quick run through. You can learn the turns, what speed youshould enter them at...etc then youcan turn off the braking line and get the 10% bonus while knowing the track well. =============================================================================== Arcade Mode FM2-06 =============================================================================== Arcade mode provides three options. Exhibition, which has a total of 15 races. Every race is locked except the first one, so you have to work your way up. Each win unlocks a few new cars that are locked in free play. The second option is Time Trial, which is exactly how it sounds, to set the best time on a specific course with a specific car. Each car is usually a high end car. Once the time trial is beat, you unlock the car you were using. Lastly there is Free Play, which allows for you to play any specific course with any car you have unlocked. This can be used for practice as well as just to have some fun. =============================================================================== Arcade Mode: Exhibition FM2-06-01 =============================================================================== To reiterate, I cannot tell you how to choose your car here, or what to do on each track, but I will provide information about each race and about exhibition in general to help you complete this. Exhibition is similar to Career mode racing, minus a few things. Firstly you are able to choose any car class and car. This means from D to R1, as long as it is unlocked. Though you can choose from the R cars, I mainly stuck with my Career mode D-400 Sprinter Trueno since it was quick and ensured me a win, though for some races I did use a better car. The main cars I used were: 2004 Toyota #35 Yellow Hat YMS Supra - R3 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex - D-245 (Upgraded to D-400 and tuned in Career mode) 1998 Ferrari #12 Risi Competizione F333 SP - R1 I used some others, but nothing really notable. Whichever you choose, you are paired with opponents of the same class, so you never really have an advantage overall, but you can choose a car that performs better on several levels that is in the top of its class and it will be paired with the same class cars and pretty much give you the upper hand. On top of this, there is no damage (engine or body) at all in exhibition, so if you want you can slam into opponents, or if you are unlucky and hit a wall or something mid-race, no worries. Lastly you choose the settings you prefer, it allows you to choose the three driving aids, braking/acceleration line, and manual or automatic settings. Now normally I drive without the assist line with manual and with STM off, but here I did it more for comfort and had it automatic, braking line, and all aids on. Choose what you would like, no bonuses or losses for choosing more or less aids. Last thing, when you win a race, there are three winning positions. First, which awards you a Gold medal and all 3 cars for that race, second, which awards you a Silver medal and the Silver/Bronze car, and third, which awards you the Bronze medal and only the Bronze car. If you complete all the races and get gold on all of them you will complete all three achievements (All Gold, All Silver, All Bronze). There are a total of 15 races in exhibition mode, each is locked except the first one. To unlock each one you must beat the unlocked one and it will allow you to continue to the next race. Now onto the race information. It has a total of 25 races. The times aren't too hard to beat, though sometimes you may need to do a second lap to beat the time, or if you don't make it the first time, you will almost likely get it the second time around, due to you starting at a much higher speed then you did before. Each race will unlock one car, the car that was used for that race, most being either S class or R class. Though most are easy, Nürburgring can be a pain. If you are unfamiliar with this course, you will either love or hate it. It is a long course, even for a fast car the laps can be nearly 7 or 8 minutes in time per lap. The request for this one is hard to do, at least for me. The main issue is the length of the the track, the number of turns and sharp turns that you can easily mess up on. I've had several times where I'm running perfectly up for about 5-6 minutes then near one of the last turns I try to speed up a bit to make sure I beat the target time, then I make an error and head of course causing me penalty time. I finally beat it after about a half hours work, I had to do it on my second lap, but I did clear it by about 15 seconds...though the top score on LIVE scares me. Low 6 minutes, which is amazing. =============================================================================== Career Mode FM2-07 =============================================================================== In career mode you build your way up from the lowest of the low to the top end model cars and prototypes. You get to choose your region of choice, North America, Asia, or Europe and build up from there. There are several different types of races, everything from endurance races which are long multiple lap races to specific races, like factory spec races which pit you against the computer, all running the same car and specs. Also, there is a driver and car level thing incorporated. The driver level unlocks certain bonuses, like new cars from certain dealers, discounts from your region's cars, and many other things, while car levels provide specifc discounts on items, like clutches, transmissions...etc for that and a few other dealers, these bonuses stack so several of the same companies car leveled up will provide greater discounts. =============================================================================== Career Mode: Starting Your Career FM2-07-01 =============================================================================== Ah, finally starting Career mode...but where to start? You get to choose from Europe, North America, or Asia as your region, once you choose your region you have a little over $10,000 Credits to spend on your first car. In all honesty, you can choose how you would like, it is more about your opinion on what region you want to start in. The key thing to remember though, when you choose your region, those are the level bonuses they will go towards, so when you go up a driver level, it will give you discounts on cars, but only on that regions cars. So if you are fan of European cars, may be a good start in Europe...etc. I chose Asia, mainly because it has MY car. My starting car was the Honda CR-X SiR, which I felt was a good buy. From the start of the game to about 30% completion I was able to go through without having to buy any new cars, I was able to use my main car, the CR-X to win several events, which gave me other cars that fell into the other categories which allowed to continue completing...etc. Again, the choice is yours, but choose wisely, only way to change your region afterwards is to pay $100,000 credits. =============================================================================== Career Mode: Proving Grounds FM2-07-02 =============================================================================== Here we have the basic racing events, 10 events in total, all pretty simple and short. Not to bad to start your career on, get a few cars and a decent amount of credits. It handles like a race car without being a race car class, it has great accelerating, braking, everything. The tracks aren't too bad, getting a bit longer now, but still easy. The only hard part about this event is the tracks. They are longer and they throw in the King Cobra track as well as the Nürburgring track, which is crazy long. Total Races: 4 This event is pretty good, putting the two top tuner cars one on one. The top two cars can be a real annoyance, great horsepower and torque and they just go quick on the straight, but they have bad handling/braking so you can make up for it on most of the tracks (except for Nissan Speedway, I busted out my VeilSide supra here). For the rest I used my R3 Yellow Hat Supra, I prefer handling/braking over speed. The tracks aren't too bad, you even get the Nissan Speedway which is money in the bag. If you want to gain easy credits, I suggest building a VeilSide Supra or any Supra/Skyline and just race that track. Full bonuses and payout is like 40k for 1st and it is an easy course. I could do it in under 6 minutes so that is like 400,000 credits in an hour if I wanted. I would suggest a Hennessey Viper or a Lingenfelter on some of these tracks, though not the best handling, it is hard to keep up with anything else. Personally, I used my upgraded/tuned Lingenfelter here. I would suggest the same, or to use the Hennessey Viper. The courses are all pretty easy, the hardest being the King Cobra, which is where I might suggest to use a R4 viper or Corvette if you have one, since the handling and braking is key there. Overall, not too bad, my suggestion for a car would be to use an Esperante GTLM or whatever you have that you can get high on the B-class spectrum. Total Races: 4 In all honesty, this is probably the hardest event I've had for awhile. The car is decent in the speed department, but it oversteers like no other car, it can be hard to handle when you are used to better cars. It also only has 4 gears which constantly threw me off (I'd sit there constantly trying to gear up when I'm maxed at 4th). The tracks are somewhat long for this car and some errors can really mess you up. I didn't like the car much, not too big of a fan of Ferraris all around and this one just seems too heavy and a little more sluggish then some other cars. By far my favorite races, these races are endurance because you do the 1 track for a high amount of laps. Most endurance races will run over 45 minutes minimum, there are longer ones. Though longer, they can be much more better over the other events. Each one nets you nearly $150,000 credits with 1st place, rarity, and difficulty bonuses, then you get a generous amount of credits for completing the event. Event 1: Tsukuba Class D Grand Prix ___________________________________ Requirements: Driver Level 20, Car class must be D. Total Races: 1 A good place to start for endurance races. A short, easy to handle course, not that many laps and the lowest class of cars. I used a souped up Sprinter Trueno, using just enough mods to keep me at D-400, which is the max before you go to C. I didn't pit once, though I could have, but felt like it wasn't necessary. I lapped everyone once and few of the others twice. Pretty basic and very good payout. Total Races: 1 Pretty easy endurance race, plus you get the fun course of Laguna seca. If you don't already know how to handle the corkscrew well, you will either learn now, or need to learn before you come here. I used my Sprinter Trueno here, it was a good car for the race, everything else was far behind and the Cadillac CTS-V was the only one who put up anything close to a fight. At the end of lap 15 I was at 41% wear in the back, 38% in the front, 50% fuel left. I had the stock tire compound as well. I pitted at lap 21 going on 22, was running really low on fuel and tires were about 70% worn down by this point. I took the advantage of going three laps after my closest opponent, that way I keep a decent lead. Just keep an eye out, you may run lower earlier or may not need to pit at all.
