Characters ========================================================= Celine - Quick, agile, and deadly, this seemingly fragile elf has led her people to victory through countless battles. During the Second War of Heroes, Celine's elven nation allied with King Curian and the humans to protect the Ancient Heart from falling into the grasp of the Dark Legion. Fighting side by side, Celine and Curian fell deeply in love. All seemed destined for happiness until the end of the war, when the two disappeared without a trace. What happened to Celine? And what fate has befallen her lover? ------------------------ Curian - The monks of Hironeiden raised Curian to be a messenger of peace. The eager young orphan cherished his message... and brought it with him to the battlefield. As the Second War of Heroes raged about him, Curian proved himself a brilliant leader and eventually took the throne as King of Azilla. With Celine, his elven lover, at his side, King Curian and the Alliance of Light soundly defeated the Dark Legion and returned peace to the continent of Bersia. The thankful masses sang his praises, but the king was nowhere to be found. Did Curian abandon the people of Azilla? Will the king reclaim his throne? ------------------------ Duane - Arrogant and vain, Sir Duane is the epitome of narcissism. He may be balding, battle-scarred, and potbellied, but in his mind, Duane has always been an awe-inspiring warrior... and an irrestistable ladies' man. Born into a wealthy noble family, Duane used his connections to obtain a respectable (and profitable) position as Kendal's officer during the Encablossa War. Yet the position was more than he bargained for - he, too, disappeared with his commander at the end of the war. What role is left for Duane to play in the drama of Bersia? Is it his turn to shine as a true hero? Or is he too self- absorbed to care? ------------------------ Leinhart - Half-vampire prince of Vellond, Leinhart is as greedy, amibitious, and ruthless as his father, King Valdemaar... but he lacks His Majesty's wit and wisdom. Leinhart's life has been a series of disappointments. His father stole his lover, Morene, and stripped him of his rank. So, in disgrace, Leinhart joined Regnier's army. Although he became Regnier's right-hand officer Leinhart's thirst for power did not abate. With the nation of Vellond now fractured by the Encablossa War, can Leinhart restore his kingdom? How far would this foolish prince go to satisfy his ambition? ------------------------ Kendal - The Church of Ecclesia knew Kendal as the ideal military commander: a zealousknight with unshakable belief in the tenets of his faith and his duty to the church. But behind his inscrutable faceguard, Kendal hid his worries and self-doubt. To escape the confusion in his mind, he threw himself into the certainty of battle. His bravery saved the Age of Light from the encroaching Darkness and brought about the end of the Encablossa War. But when the dust settled, Kendal was nowhere to be found. What happened to Kendal after he dove into Encablossa? Did the holy knight choose the path of righteousness? Or is the cosmos more complicated than it seems. ------------------------ Regnier - In the history of Bersia, no man has been more influential or more infamous than the man now known as Regnier. Once the noble Rick Miner, he was slaughtered during the First War of Heroes by the lich, Khiliani. Ressurected by the Ancient Heart, he surfaced as Rick Blood, commander of the Dark Legion, in the Second War of Heroes. Finally, weilding a flaming blade with devastating strength and ruthlessness he reemerged as Regnier, the immortal warlord of Hextor. Forging an unlikely truce with the Human Alliance, Regnier united with Kendal to pierce the body of Encablossa and prevent the Age of Light's destruction. Where is Regnier now, and what form has he taken? What secrets lie hidden in his past? ========================================================= 4. Walkthrough ========================================================= This is a walkthrough for the main portion of the game. Due to the nature of the game, and the fact that you can play as six different wholly different character types, not all strategies listed here will apply in all situations. On to the FAQ! * NOTE: I played through as Leinhart so the strategies were written for a more agile character, not a bruiser. Characters like Regnier shold be able to muscle through some of the same situations I advise caution. As a general word of caution the game does feature something of a randomized map feature. What this means is that each time you play through a particular level there is a chance that various factors will change. So while I might say that you need to go from north to south in an area your map might be flipped on its side and you need to go from east to west. However the areas are still by and large the same, so if I tell you that east is where the statue is and you go that way and don't see it, there's a good chance it's to the west. It isn't truly randomized, just details get mixed up to make it seem that way. * NOTE: There is an effect in this game that I have coined "Engagement Range". This is essentially the distance that you can expect your attacks to hit the enemies. You might be inclined to believe that because you can see someone then you can hit them. NOT SO BUCKO! These game devs were too... smart(?) for that. Instead you have to close to a specified distance and then you can hit them with whatever ranged attacks you like. This varies by monster and can cause some rather odd situations (such as throwing daggers through one enemy and them hitting the one behind him due to Engangement Range. It's obnoxious but you can learn to cope with it. ======================== Forest of Embracing ======================== Overflowing Light ------------------------ This is your basic tutorial area. It will explain how you control and move both your character and the camera as well as explaining the basics of using your abilities and items. Play through the tutorial but don't do anything the game doesn't tell you to (use items, abilities, etc) before you are told or you may find yourself stuck and have to restart. Once that is out of the way look to the right of the ruins and you should see some greenery with a dirt path. Head that way and keep moving until you can see some white ruins in front of you. A horde of lizard men are going to come rushing at you when you head that way so either charge or move forward slowly. When you see them engage them however you like, you shouldn't have much in the ways of problems with them. Wipe them out and pick up any objects that they dropped. * NOTE: Be mindful of SP usage here. Although the Lizard men don't really try to attack you too often here it's still good to get into the habit of keeping an eye on it. Pull back if you have to. Keep moving onward and you will pass between two pillars. As you do this you will see a large group of lizard men, a giant lizard man and an archer all who are waiting to do you harm. I suggest that you retreat backwards and try to take them out without the archer plucking at you. Once they are done pick up their loot and go back and take out the archer. Now continue forward a short ways. You will see more lizard men, don't rush them too hastily. They have no less than three archers with them, two in the rear and one to the right side. * NOTE: Archers, generally, do not move from where they stand. So try to keep an enemy or object between you and them while you deal with the melee threats and then move in for the kill. I suggest moving in close, moving in a zig-zag pattern to avoid arrows, and try to draw off some of the melee enemies. Kill them however you like and then move in on the archers. Pick up all their loot and look for two small red potions behind the rock the archers were near. Turn to your right and fight the lizard men here but don't bother with the path, it leads you back to the white ruins where you got into your first fight. Instead turn to your left and start heading that way. When you reach the first bend in the road enemies will rush at you, take them out and then get that obnoxious little archer. Continue along the path. Another group will rush you shortly, this one with a few larger folk. Pull back and take them out however keeps you safest (for Leinhart, his Kamkirigama works wonders for stunning and hurting enemies) and then mop up the archers. * NOTE: I saw some odd flying creature here that I accidentally killed, no idea what it was though... Up ahead is the Statue of Greed. With him you can synthesize items and trade. Don't really bother with the synthesis now unless you see the ability to lower the SP consumption of your main weapons, it's just a waste right now. You might be able to afford an item or two at this point though, that can be a big help. See if you can buy a better weapon and then lower its SP cost all the better. Once that is done go to sleep (move away from the statue and press back). In the dream world speak to the person(s) there until they won't say anything new to advance your personal plot and then pick two skills to learn. * NOTE: The game devs sought to infuse humor in the game by making some rather silly spells. It failed. If a spell sounds useless it probably is (ie. Clap). * NOTE: The different Idols sell different types of items. This is most noticed with the Idol of Death who sells rather expensive, but useful, enhancements. Now head on forward and you will encounter some more lizard men. Wipe out the melee ones but watch out for the four archers. Get rid of the lot of them and then continue forward to enter the next area. ------------------------ Shroud of Fog ------------------------ Start moving forward until you hit the second section of the map. From here on outward is going to be a giant brawl until you pass the second bend. Lots of lizard men, a few warriors, a bunch of archers (8 or so) and a new enemy, the Plants. These ones, the Plant Jacks, aren't all that hard. Just hit them from a distance and take them out as quickly as you can. It shouldn't be too hard to get rid of them although they do have a powerful melee attack (to Leinhart anyways) to be wary of. When you pass the second bend there are more enemeis but also the Plant Queen. They are essentially the same as the Plant Jack except they seem to have more HP than he does. However they seem to die just as easily so don't worry about them, just cut them down and keep moving. Once you pass this group just keep on going and cut down any enemies that get in your way until you reach the next statue. Do any trading, synthesizing and skill learning you can before you head on your way. Continue forward until you come across some more enemies. This is where the Plant King is and he is bad news. I wouldn't say he is hard per se, you can get in his face and beat on him but there are complications. He has an archer behind himself that you cannot get to due to him being in the way and he can also spit out a glob of yellow pus at you. The biggest issue here is that he will summon up more plants with that same yellow pus, either Plant Jacks or the stronger Plant Queens. It seems the limit is two of them though so at least you have that safety net. You can circle behind the Plant King along one of his sides and get to the archer but you will probably get hit along the way, it's still worth it. If you are playing a bruiser your best bet is to keep moving around the Plant King in circles, avoiding his attacks and keeping him and the enemies in front of you. This lets you play crowd control. If playing a ranged character try to keep your distance from all involved and aim at the Plant King. When there are two Jacks or Queens try to focus on them so that they aren't in your way and then go back to attacking the King. For Leinhart try to use the Kamkirigama to hit both his plants and the boss himself. Avoid staying in melee too long or you will get hurt badly. With him out of the way continue to the next area. ------------------------ Shadow Depths ------------------------ Move forward until you reach a fork in the road. To your right and left are Plant Kings and lizard warriors. I suggest going right to the larger group and take them out before you move to the left and kill them off as well. Now head to the right and take this path. You will come across a few large groups of enemies with plants with them, loads of little Rippers and Stalkers (who you might need to kill for a skill quest) and Wooden Golems. None of these are a threat, even the golem. Just keep behind it and it will go down quick enough. The path terminates in a fight with a Plant King so kill it off and begin going back to the beginning area. Now take the left path, fighting any stragglers left behind, and make your way to the statue here. Synthesize away, trade items and sleep to continue your storyline. Continue on once you are done there. Head along the path in front of you, kill the last plant and enter the next area. ------------------------ Twisted Time ------------------------ Time for some new enemies! From the get go you will be fighting the weak but plentiful Skeleton Soldiers and Ghost Knights. The soldiers die easily enough but the knights are quick and do a fair bit of damage. Try to use any attacks that stun the knights and then close in. You can dispose of the soldiers just about any way you please. Continue on your merry way once they are dead and you will come across another group of enemies. This group has Flesh Spears with them. These are weird guys that seem to be impaled on poles who turn invisible but don't seem to actually do anything. There are also Louses who crawl on the floor and slow down your movement speed. This is annoying but no real inconvenience, hack them down and continue on your way. Watch your left side as you go, you should see a path there with three Skeleton Archers. Take them out and move along that path. This is a pretty straight run until you end up in a wide open area. You can either go to the left, leading to the upper path and take out the archers or go to the right. It's best to go to the left after taking out the three Ghost Knights and clear out the archers and this path for the experience before going right. * NOTE: It is about now that the Ghost Knights will reveal their obnoxiously cheesy ability. They simply swing their sword in your general direction and you get hurt, with a good chance of knocking you down. Wonderful. Try to keep on the move so you don't get hit with this. Take the path to your immediate right as you head north (according to the mini- map) and kill the archers before you head into the middle of the area. There is a creature, like the Flesh Spear, but it isn't stuck in one place. They also aren't too big of a threat so just open up on them and take them out. Once you have killed everyone off head back to the wide open area and head to the west path (once again on the map). When the path begins to go up a slanted hill be careful. There are archers, blue lizard wizards and skeleton soldiers to be handled here. If you have the Dash ability you can charge up the path, take them out and then work on those melee enemies. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Continue onwards, through another group of skeleton soldiers and an archer, and you will find another statue. When you are done with it continue forward to reach the End of Embracing. ------------------------ End of Embracing ------------------------ Boss fight! This guy is a serious pain to fight but not actually hard. He only has two means to attack you for the first stage of this fight, acid spit from one of his many faces and his legs which can step on you. Don't worry about the legs they don't hit you often nor do they hit you too hard. The spit can be a problem since it does a fair amount of damage and it stays on the ground where he belches it up. This means you're going to have to be mindful of where it spewed or you will burn. This fight isn't actually all that hard so long as you have a ranged weapon. If you don't then it gets a bit tricker. If you do simply equip the weapon, stand off to the side a bit and start hitting the boss' face with it. Once the mask on it is destroyed and it is at about 50% health move on to the next mask. Do this until all the masks are destroyed. The Forest Guardian will now leap into the air, climbing around on the walls and dangling over you. Any of his red pus that drips down can hurt you but so long as he is up there you can injure the guardian body itself. Start flinging off ranged attacks but keep yourself away from the main portion of where his mass is up there. Eventually he is going to drop down and if you are too close to him he will hurt you. With him back on the ground go back to attacking the masks and try to destroy each of the heads now. Once you destroy one he should drop a ranged weapon if you didn't have one before. Take out all of the heads and it's just you and the body. Simply open fire the next time he goes up in the air and use potions to restore your SP so that you can just keep firing on him. He will go down sooner rather than later at this point. Once he is dead you only have about 40 seconds to pick up all the treasure that he dropped. If you are quick enough and manage to get it all you will recieve a fairly hard to get achievement. Once that is done you will be portaled into the next area without much explanation. * NOTE: You should have the Stranger to the Dimension achievement by this point meaning you are level 10. If not you may wish to return to the forest once you reach a statue in the next area. ======================== City of Desolation ======================== Dawn ------------------------ Once your game loads start heading forward. Make your way to the second section of this first map and go to the right. There is a statue in this large area so make good use of it before you continue on your way. * NOTE: At this point with Leinhart I found that I had to go back to the forest area to further his quest. There are numerous Plant Kings to be found there now so you can work on it without too much difficulty. Relatively anyways. The Plant Kings will now summon up to three other Plant minions to aid them so be very careful if you backtrack. Now continue forward until you reach the next map section. You are going to be fighting new enemies for this level. They are wild natives called Blacksand Soldiers. There is also the larger warrior type, some annoying little Scorpion Spiders, as well as Shamans. The first shamans you deal with are the Blacksand Shamans of Fire and Lightning. While not too difficult to kill they can damage you rather quick by hitting you with lightning, thus causing staggers, and then whaling on you with fire. Try to keep mobile to avoid this. * NOTE: The scorpions can be very hard to hit and their attacks are quite the nuisance so I suggest keeping a ranged attack weapon on hand. Fire off some ranged attacks, via weapon or spell, and thin out the scorpions before you go into an area infested with them. Fight your way to the upper levels and take out whatever Scorpions that get in your way. They are non-stop and don't give much EXP but you can easily move through them and get to the enemies. Once you've cleaned out the upper level go back down to the bottom level and go under the rock bridge and proceed forward. When you enter the next area there will be some soldiers to your left who have a few shamans mixed in with them. Head on over and start thinning them out but be careful, a few warriors are going to come charging in from the right and a few obnoxious scorpions are going to come from the rear trying to potshot you. Wipe out the enemies and head onto the upper level yet again. Follow it, taking out any enemies you come across, and you will find a Plant King. Odd place for the fellow but take him out and continue on. There are going to be more soldiers, warriors and scorpions in your path but you should have little difficulty making your way through them. Now head for the lower level and go to the southern side of the map. The exit to the next area is over here, head on through. And yes those damn scorpions will still be following you around. Some warriors are waiting to the right to ambush you but up ahead are more of the soldiers and shamans, including the new Blacksand Shaman of Darkness. They aren't that bad to fight although their spell moves really fast. Luckily it is not all that damaging. Move forward wiping them out, get rid of the Plant King and then enter the next region. ------------------------ Noon ------------------------ Move forward to get this section underway. The first map area is empty so move on to the second and you will find yourself in a wide open area. To your left is a passage and to your right are a Flame Knight and Lightning Knight. Head on over to them and wipe them out. They fight like elementally inclined Ghost Knights so it's nothing new. If you're using ranged attacks just remember to aim high since that is where the bulk of their mass is, this should make it a bit easier to actually hurt them. Now head to the right, cut through the soldiers and take a left. Continue going straight and you will come across some more soldiers, a few warriors and a Lightning Knight. As soon as you start to fight them Lightning Scorpion Spiders will come out the wall so prepare for that nuisance to come down on you like a hammer if you aren't prepared for the whole mess of them. Get rid of as many of them as you like and then continue forward. Don't go to the right over here just yet, there are a bunch of enemies there but leave them for the moment. Continue forward and take a left to find some soldiers and a Flame Knight over there. Head on over and wipe them out before you backtrack here and continue onward towards the previous group of enemies. * NOTE: I would suggest trying to keep them a range if at all possible, their explosive ground attack knocks you back, does a lot of damage and sets you on fire. Try to either keep them at a distance or hammer on them until they go down so as to avoid dealing with this attack. When you engage these enemies you will be fighting a mix of soldiers and more warriors but as soon as you start the fight Scorpion Spiders will swarm from the side and be a serious issue as far as getting in your way. In addition you will see a few Shamans of Darkness come towards you along with a new enemy. The weird scorpion looking creatures are actually called Necromancers and they are essentially giant scorpions. Why they are named that I have no idea but there you go. Continue to the next area and hang to the right up the staircase there. At the top of the stairs you will have to deal with a group of soldiers, warriors and two more Flame Knights. Try to get up onto the platform to deal with them since they are really obnoxious to fight on the stairs. Continue straight ahead and take out the shaman who come charging out at you and turn the corner to go down the stairs and just continue that way. When you reach the next map head over to the large round area to find another statue sanctuary. Use it and then double back to the previous map area and head to the north. Charge in and take out the enemies here but watch your back and sides, Necromancers come up from behind and Scorpion Spiders come from the left side walls. This area is essentially a battlefield, run around and take out the enemies, three Plant Kings and try to get as much EXP as you can. You will need it in the coming areas. Now double back to where the statue was and unload any excess equipment that you might have. Continue along this passage to the east and you will see some more soldiers. Fight them and the Lightning Knight that is with them. As you kill off soldiers and warriors Scorpion Spiders and Necromancers will spawn in to attack you. Kill them all off and then move in on the Flame and Lightning Knight up ahead. It might help to use some ranged abilities before they move in close (or use a ranged weapon with Frost on it). Continue forward and take out the last Flame and Lightning Knight to reach the next area. ------------------------ Evening ------------------------ Head forward and be ready for a bit of trouble. Not only are there more soldiers, shamans of darkness and a Necromancer ahead but there's a huge Flesh Golem. This guy is a little faster than the Wood Golem but he packs a serious punch. If you use ranged attacks he isn't too bad though, keep hitting him in the chest and he will fall on his rear end. With him downed simply start to beat on him and he should die quick enough. Continue forward (either take out some of the Scorpion Spiders on the walls or just ignore them) and head down the middle of the area. Follow the spiral down and take out the enemies as they come at you. When you reach the bottom go on through the tunnel and take a right. There is a Plant King here, take him out for the EXP and then backtrack to the tunnel and continue straight (to the west on the map). Head on over to the statue in this area, use it and then continue on your way. When you enter the next map you might think all you have to deal with is the Flesh Golem, this is a trick and a sneaky one. There are invisible enemies near him called (not so creative here) The Invisibles. If you have the Detection Ability on an item use it to reveal them and kill them and the golem. If not... well just do what I did and flip all over the place swinging wildly. Take them out and then stick to the right side of the area and follow that path. * NOTE: If you are feeling anxious about dealing with these invisible enemies then you can take advantage of the Engagement Range. Invisibles have some HUGE ranges of engagement and you can take advantage of this by throwing off some attacks from a distance. You will easily see blood from the distance and they will start moving in on you so take note and move in on them. Stick with the path and you will come upon some Shamans who also have invisible enemies with them. Kill them off and turn left to find yet more enemies needing a good face redecoration. Continue along the path until you see a Lightning Knight. He too has some insibile enemies with him so wipe them out, along with the lightning bugs that rear their ugly heads and continue onward. From here it is a straight run to the end of the area. All that stands between you and it is a bunch of warriors, shamans and some more of the elemental knight enemies. Nothing you can't handle so get to killing. ------------------------ Night ------------------------ Look to your left and head up those stairs to get to the upper level. Head to your right and you should see some new enemies, Flesh Men. These masses of fat aren't very hard to take out and their only attack is a belly flop. Faster PCs can literally spin circles around them with their combos and never be hit so just open up on them and take them out however you please. Now turn to the left and head that way taking out the other Flesh Men here before taking a right. This gets you out of this confusing little area. When you pass under the arch a few Invisibles are waiting for you, take them out and head over to the Flesh Golem. Take him out along with his fellow Flesh Men before proceeding onward. Go into the next area and continue straight (west on the map) and take out the skeletons that come after you. You will end up on a new map section with a Flame and Lightning Knight to your left and right. If you go too far forward you will end up fighting four at once, not good. Try to draw them off one or two at a time and get rid of them. Now go further in and take out the Flesh Men. To your left and right are ramps that lead down to the bottom level and both are guarded by four Flesh Spears and the Flesh men that come up to attack you. Kill them off and head down to take out the enemies down here. If you are playing Kendal now you should turn back and head to the north. That way leads to a statue and to the End of Arrogance where he fights an optional boss. However if you aren't playing as Kendal don't even bother. Just head to the north of this area and you will find the way to the next stage, the Hall of Arrogance. In there is a statue so go that way. ======================== Hall of Arrogance ======================== Antechamber ------------------------ This isn't an actual part of the level so much as it is a hub. Head on down the hall to find a statue. Save your game and do what you like before you head to the west down the hallway. This will lead you to the Sunrise Atrium. Up the stairs is a hallway but you cannot go down it yet. It reads that when the light is out you the End of Arrogance will open. So just ignore that for the time being. ------------------------ Sunrise Atrium ------------------------ Head straight forward until you reach a hallway that goes north and south. The south passage has some Sculptor Apprentices in your path and leads to the Vestibule 1F. The north path leads to the Library of Memories 1F and has two Archangel Statues and Cherub Statues guarding it (the Cherub statues are in a room to your east). These enemies self destruct when you get near to them and they will pursue you so be careful with them. Head for the Vestibule 1F once you have explored this area. ------------------------ Vestibule 1F ------------------------ Go straight ahead from the entrance but take note of the enemies up ahead. You will have more apprentices to deal with and they have an Iron Golem with them. These big boys are very hard to hurt with ranged weapons but they do take a good amount of damage from spells. Use Magic Shot to weaken them and then move in for the kill in melee. Continue forward to find another golem with a few apprentices near it. Kill them and move into the next room, taking out the two Necromancers that appear on the walls. Now head through the doorway into the open area. There is a large steaming... thing to your left and right. These are Drillers and they fire blasts of fire at you, not very accurately though. There are also a number of statues here of the Archangel and Cherub variety, plenty of apprentices as well as Sculptor Maestros (the warriors of this area) and a Mirror of Paradise that comes from the upper level. The only threat here is the mirror who seems to reflect ranged spells back at you. This area sounds hectic, and it can be, but you can simplify your life by simply staying at a range and spamming ranged attacks. Once the mirror is dead you can even add some magic shots to the mix. Wipe out the enemies here and then walk the floor looking for Necromancers attached to the ceiling. Then take the staircase up a floor. You will find two Iron Golems up here and a statue. Be careful how you fight them and if you retreat don't get caught on the stairs or you will be hurt badly. Now that you are on the second floor landing run a circle around it, taking out any of the remaining Sculptor enemies and wiping out the two Archangel statues that are here. Now head for the southern part of the floor and go through the hallway, this leads to the Vestibule 2F. ------------------------ Vestibule 2F ------------------------ Straight down the hallway here is a Driller but before you even reach him a bunch of Fire Necromancers are going to come out of the walls. Kill them with ranged attacks and then knock off the Driller. There is another right in front of you but there are also some Cherub statues that come from the room to the south so keep an eye out. And further down the hall are some Sculptor Maestro and an Iron Golem. Get rid of all of the enemies and move on. At the very end of this hallway is a Driller but ignore him for the moment. Go to the north hallway when it branches off and you will see a Plant King. He has a bunch of maestro and a Mirror of Paradise guarding him. Kill them off and get rid of the king. Now approach the Driller at the end of the hall. Before you can even reach him a swarm of Fire Necromancers will come out from the left and right walls. Kill them off before you go after the Driller. Now double back to take the north passage. Past where the Plant King was settled, in the hallway, there are two Drillers. If you fight the first from a distance you can take him out without the second one even noticing you. Once the first dies simply aim at the corpse and fire your attacks right through it to kill the second. There's a third further down the corridor but he is guarded by a mirror and some maestro so take them out and then get rid of it. Further down the corridor you will be attacked by Cherub Statues along with yet more maestro and another mirror. Keep on going but be careful. This area is absolutely littered with statues, maestro and mirrors and there will be Ice and Fire Necromancers coming out the walls. When you reach the end of the hallway it will open up into a larger room. There are no enemies here so simply travel through to the Sunrise Atrium. ------------------------ Sunrise Atrium ------------------------ You will note that it doesn't seem as bright in here as it was before. This is what you need. Head north and enter the Library of Memories 1F. ------------------------ Library of Memories, 1F ------------------------ While this area may seem quiet at first the minute you pass through the first doorway you will besieged by an ungodly amount of Angel statues and Maestro. Try to hang back and thin their numbers with ranged attacks and spells. This is going to continue for a while so move forward slowly and keep on killing off the Angel statues until the music finally changes back. Now proceed slowly to the next doorway and get ready for some more. In this wide open area there are no less than eight statues, a mix of Archangel and Angel statues. Wipe them out and make your way to the second level, taking out any of the Sculptors as you go. When you actually get to the second floor immediately run back to the first floor and look in the direction you ran from. You should see a swarm of enemies coming down the stairs and some Cherub Statue enemies flying your way. Kill them off and wipe out the Sculptors with them. Once that is done go up to the second level and wipe out any remaining statues before you go into the hallway to the west. ------------------------ Library of Memories, 2F ------------------------ As you move forward you will see an Angel Statue in your path. This is there to throw you off, there are actually two Archangel statues hiding in the alcoves before you reach the Angel. You must take them out quickly or they will close in on you. Kill them and then move forward, taking out the Angel statue, before you wipe out the Sculptors who come your way. Continue forward until you reach the northern hallway. When you hit this area of the map you will be in what amounts to a huge running battle with Necromancers, Sculptors and a slew of statues. Keep on fighting on through them and you will eventually reach the door to the Twilight Corridor. ------------------------ Twilight Corridor ------------------------ When you first appear all is quiet but it doesn't stay that way. When you enter the long hallway you will be attacked by Flesh Men of the Flaming and Frozen variety as well as Flesh Louses. These little nuisances crawl around the floor and try to bite at you, doing light damage and slowing you down. Kill off the Flesh Men and continue into the next area. There is a Dark Knight and a Cold Knight here, fight them carefully and continue onward. Keep on moving forward, fighting your way through the Flesh Louse nuisance, and you will find yourself in another hallway with another Dark Knight and a bunch of statues. Fight through them carefully and you will reach another corridor full of Flesh Men. You can either evade them (dash works for this) or actually fight them if you feel like it. The door to the next area is up ahead so get on over to it and enter the Antechamber. ------------------------ Antechamber ------------------------ Head on over to the statue and save your game, trade any items and stock up on red potions. You are going after the boss of the area now so it's time to use up some of that money. Once you are ready head up the stairs and go through the doorway at the top to the End of Arrogance. ------------------------ End of Arrogance ------------------------ This boss is a serious pain in the rear. If you have any equipment that allows you to resist lightning I advise you to equip it here. All of Loki's ranged attacks are lightning based so it can help save your life. If not then you are going to need to be quick with healing yourself, this isn't as passive a boss as the Forest Guardian was. To begin with Loki spins around the room trying to ram into you. What you need to do is take out a ranged attack weapon and simply beat on him with it. You can throw in some Magic Shots for good measure but simply keep hammering on him until he starts losing pieces of his armor. The goal is to remove it all. This is easier said than done thanks to his attacks. Generally he will simply charge at you and attempt to ram you. If he is lying prone on the floor and charges you simply strage to the side and keep hitting him with projectiles. If he starts to spin in place and move towards you move backwards and keep on hammering him with everything you have. Whenever you hit him and he is moving you stop him momentarily so if you hit him fast enough he will not be able to get at you. There's not much you can do to evade his ranged lightning strikes so don't even bother. Just keep hitting him and try to attack so hard that you go right through the lightning stagger animations. Once his armor is gone he becomes immune to ranged attacks but not spells. Keep hitting him with magic shots whenever you have the chance and, if necessary, use melee strikes to do some extra damage. However when you try to melee him not only will his lightning strikes stun lock you so that you get pounded on but he leaves an oil slick where ever he goes that does an ungodly cheesy lot of damage so if you do melee stay to his sides and never directly follow him. As soon as you kill him complete the roll and look around near his body. You should see a worm looking object in the area near his body. Hit it as quickly and hard as you can to destroy it and get the achievement "Catch me if you can" for destroying his head. I &%$#ing hate this achievement. You have such a small window to hit it that the obnoxious thing is going to run off and up a wall and you cannot hit it once it does that. This leaves you having to refight the boss if you want to get the achievement which means going through the stage again. Oh joy... You might want to wait until you are higher level if you had much difficulty with this fight the first time. This way you can cut through this level quickly and simply destroy the boss and then his head to get this achievement. ======================== Valley of Solitude ======================== The Descent ------------------------ Charge forward and you will meet some new enemies, these Yuki Onma are really annoying. They don't do much damage but they do run away if you hurt them and they are quite fond of exploding and doing some rather bad damage to you. So you have to kill them quickly. Move forward as much as you can to find a statue area, save your game and restock on healing items. Also look at what you got from beating the boss and decide what you're equipping, what you're selling and what's being synthesized. * NOTE: Yuki Onma only explode when hurt and if there is a Yuki Otoko nearby. One will move towards the other and grasp them before they both explode. Try to keep a distance from these dangerous lovers. Continue forward and you will find a group of Skeleton Soldiers with some Snow Bats with you. The Skeletons should be easily destroyed but the bats can be a bit tricky to hit. Rush forward, pushing through any more Snow Bats that come out after you and get rid of the archers before turning your attention to those winged rodents. There is something to take note of nearby, the Frozen Ice Maidens. These act as ice versions of the Flesh Spears, coming out of the ground and hurting you if you're too close. One shot destroys them though so they aren't too dangerous. A Yuki Onma will likely come out here so take it out and then mop up the last of the enemies. Now you have two choices. Going to the north will lead you to a fight with some Skeleton Soldiers and another Plant King further down (uhh... shouldn't he like not be alive in this frost?). Going to the south leads you to a large circular loop through the upper area of the level that nets you lots of EXP but it also involves lots of fighting with archers that love to potshot you. However you need to be on this upper level to proceed. Make your way up to the top and you can go to either the east and fight off a slew of enemies for the aforementioned EXP or you can continue to the north and continue with the game. The enemy archers will constantly be shooting at you but if you maintain the course you should be able to reach the exit, located at the very north tip of the level, without taking much damage. ------------------------ Cold Recollections ------------------------ Move forward and you are going to have to cut through a rather large amount of Snow Bats. Do so and continue on to the new map section. You will see that the new area is absolutely flooded with skeletons, snow bats and a few Yuki Otoko. It is hard to really give a strategy for this area beyond keep moving, be mindful of the archers and watch the walls for any sneaky Ice Necromancers who try to creep up behind you and freeze you. This essentially keeps up until you reach the new map area. Here you will have to deal with six Ice Drillers, who can freeze you with their attack, a bevy of archers, a few Yuki Onma and some soldiers in the distance ready to rush in. You have to be careful here because if you get frozen by either the Ice Driller or the lone Frost Necromancer hidden in there you will get pummeled by arrows. Keep mobile and don't let your guard down. Once they are all wiped out you can either continue straight or take the turn in the path. Continue straight for now and you will reach a dead end. Take out the Yuki Otoko here, for me it was a rare one, and kill off the Frost Necro- mancer enemies before you double back and take the other path. Cut through the army of Skeleton Soldiers here and take out the lone Yuki Onma just a bit forward. Further ahead you will find another Ice Driller with some archers and soldiers guarding it. You can lure off the soldiers fairly easily but the archers will be firing shots off the entire time you are fighting them and the Ice Driller so try to stay mobile. Once you've killed them off there's another stray Yuki Onma up ahead. Around the bend just ahead are a bunch of Yuki Onma and Otoko as well as a bunch of archers scattered around. They are up the ramp just ahead and spread out just enough to make killing them a pain in the rear so try to dodge the Yuki and soldiers to take out the archers first, Yuki second and soldiers last. This upper area is a bit of a pain due to the fact that you are going to get hit. Period. There is nothing you can do about this but suck it up and cut a bloody path through the enemies here as quickly as you can since caution does nothing for you here. Up the left and right paths there is an Ice Driller and some other smaller enemies. You need to pick a path and clear it totally (or do both for the EXP) and then approach the next platform ready for a fight. There are two Ice Drillers, eight archers, a Yuki Onma and some soldiers ready to run on over and get in the way. The problem here is that you can die instantly if you get frozen and don't cure the status immediately. Yuki Onma/Otoko hurt you just by being near you and the soldiers and archers will pummel you horribly so you must cure it and run away, heal up and come over to kill them. Try to get rid of the Yuki Onma immediately and the drillers next, working on the archers after that and then the soldiers as last priority. They just aren't important since they don't attack often nor do they do much damage. Once that ledge has been cleared take the path to your left and continue until you see four archers and another driller. Carefully move forward until you get the archers attention and then kill them. This will draw the attention of more archers to your right but you don't want to have to fight them from this distance. Now double back and take the right path, taking out the soldiers who try to stop you. From here you have a better shot on the archers near this driller. Take them out and then close in enough to take out first the closest driller and then get into position to take out the other one. With that done take out any stragglers who find their way near you, a Yuki Onma or two might have drifted near to you by this point. Now continue up one of the two paths (one to your right and left again) and take out all of the Yuki Onma/Otoko that are on both paths. You will be able to hit them from a fair distance. Kill off the soldiers and proceed forward and you will come to another two path area, pick one of them and head across. You will have more Yuki Onma to take out as well as some Drillers and a few skeletons loitering around. Wipe out all of the enemies on your chosen path and then you can head forward to leave the area. If you really want the EXP go after the other paths enemies and then head on out. ------------------------ Warm Remembrance ------------------------ Head on forward until you reach a fork in the road. The left path leads you to nothing and the right path has enemies, head that way. Before you get too close to the enemies that you can see (Ice Drillers by the way) start throwing off some ranged attacks. Aha! There are Invisibles hiding here so take them out as quickly and carefully as possible. With that done wipe out the three Ice Drillers and head forward slowly, taking out all of the Yuki in the following area. Now turn to your left and you will see yet another Plant King chilling out in the frozen wastes. Kill him. Now go in the other direction and lay siege to the skeletons hanging out over here. Take out the archers first and then the soldiers but you may see some scorpion enemies coming out, yes there are Fire and Ice Necromancers hiding here. Kill them off but don't rush forward just yet. On this path in front of you are some more Invisibles so start flinging ranged attacks to draw them out. Fight your way to the next intersection and take the left path to reach a statue sanctuary. Save your game, restock on equipment and do any synthesis that you need to. Head back and take the northern path now so that you can get some easy EXP. There are some invisible enemies here along with a horde of Ice Necromancers and a Plant King. Get the Experience, double back to the statue and continue along that path. Stick to the left side and follow that path to the upper level of this area. You will need to be up here to continue onwards. Now hug the left wall and continue forward taking out any Invisibles, the Ice Knight and the Skeletons here. Keep your eyes on your right hand side and watch out for more Yuki Otoko to try to blind side you. If you keep moving you will have to fight through some Yuki Onma and Invisibles but you can progress through this area rapidly. The path wraps around to the right side and contains more Yuki Onma and Invisibles but there are a few Flesh Spears hidden under the snow so step carefully. This path goes down to the southmost part of the map, wraps around and brings you back up. Yes you are going in some rather large circles. Start heading back to the north when you get the chance and take the ramp that goes upwards. This ramp takes you to the topmost level and you can use it to get out of this stage. There will be some Yuki Onma, Skeleton Archers, Ice Knights and an Ice Driller in your path but it's nothing too big. Kill them off and then exit the area. Almost done! ------------------------ Where She Resides ------------------------ Head west from the starting point, use the statue to restock on supplies and save, then continue along the path. You will find yourself at another fork in the road. This area has quite the ambush in store for you. First Lightning Scorpion Spiders will come out the walls, then Frozen Flesh Spears will spike out from the snow along the sides of the road and Invisibles will start to come after you from out of nowhere. Take them out as best you can, keeping mobile really helps here, and then make your way down the path to your right. This area is going to be one giant running fight with Invisibles and Lightning Scorpion Spiders but keep up at it until you reach another fork. Take the path to the east and fight your way through the Frozen Flesh Men and Ice Knight here to make your way to the upper level. There are numerous Flesh Men up here and I honestly suggest that you not try to fight them all. Along with the skeletons up here your frame rate will start to suffer and it is easier to just run. To say nothing of the enemies catching you with arrows while you fight them. Keep moving and stick to the right side while keeping an eye on the left side of the screen. You will see a ramp upwards, go up it and fight off the Frozen Flesh Men here. Once you are up on top you will have to contend with yet more Lightning Scorpion Spiders and some Invisibles. Cut them down and keep moving to the north, the enemies almost never really end here. Up ahead is your exit and it is guarded by a Yuki Onma pair and an Ice Knight. Cut through them and take the doorway into the next area to fight the boss. ------------------------ End of Solitude ------------------------ Alrighty, it's time to defrost the Ice Maiden. She isn't actually all that hard so long as you stay on your toes. There are four major attacks that she uses and that's it. The first is a melee ice slash attack, it does minimal damage but she can combo it for a second strike so stay away. The second attack is a ranged attack much like the Ice Driller uses, so just step to the side. Next is the clone attack where she makes several copies of herself and comes after you. Don't even bother trying to fight them since they can group combo you. Lastly she will make Frozen Ice Maidens all around the room. These can be destroyed for loot but while you're doing that she drifts towards you. If she touches you the game wigs out, you see trees for some reason and you take a lot of damage. Whew, with that out of the way, I reiterate that she isn't that hard. All you really need to do is attack her while she uses ranged attacks, evade and attack her when she is trying to melee you and then dodge during her last two attacks. Simply repeat this and she will die eventually. Once she has died off you get the Achievement and you can pick up the oodles of loot that she dropped before it is time to move on to the next to last area. ======================== Cave of Rage ======================== The Lava Tower ------------------------ This area is really short but it gives you a good idea as to what you are going to be dealing with in this area. The large circular room in front of you does not contain a statue like you would think it does. Instead it simply has a lot of bats for you to take out, so get to doing so. When you exit the other door you will get to fight Magma Men and a Magma Giant for the first time. * NOTE: Magma Giants are totally immune to ranged attacks, Magma Men are not although it might be hard to notice. You must aim for the middle area of their bodies to do much damage but it can work on them. These guys are no joke. They are almost totally immune to ranged attacks and have some serious defense against melee attacks as well. Try to use skills to help weaken them before trying to melee them to death. The Flesh Scorpion Spiders in the area are really just a distraction so get rid of the Magama Men and continue to the next area. * NOTE: Magma Giants do have one weak spot, their backs. If you can get behind them and start attacking they will stagger. Keep hitting them and they continue to stagger until they die. Nice and easy. ------------------------ Outer Cave ------------------------ Rush up the pathway here to find a statue. You probably need to unload your inventory and stock up on healing potions so do so now. Head further into the caves when you're done. This is a mess of bats, scorpion spiders, Magma Men and a Magma Giant or two. Proceed carefully and try to take out as many spiders as you can whenever the chance to do so reveals itself. This area is pretty straightforward however. You simply need to enter the round circular room and follow the continuing path upwards. When you reach the upper level rush for the next map area and try to ditch those annoying scorpion spiders so you don't have to fight all 11,000 of them. Be prepared for some of the worst camera angles ever in video gaming here but there isn't much that you can do. Take the right path and go under the arch. Wipe out as many vermin here as you can before you continue forward to fight off the magma enemies here, including a very mean Magma Giant who can do some really bad things to you in this small space. Continue forward and take a right to reach more enemies. Once you have handled that Magma Giant turn to the north and start moving in that direction to reach the next map area. There are some more Magma Men and a final Magma Giant in your path here but once you kill them you have a clear run for the exit. Ignore the scorpion spiders and just go for it. ------------------------ Path to the Top ------------------------ After heading forward a bit you will be attacked by bats, take them out before you move on forward. The area is a bit twisty here so to keep it simple head right up the middle and take out the Magma Giant and Magma Men. Do a quick look around the area and take out any enemies that are immediately around you before you take the left passage. There is a Driller here so kill him off and follow the path. By following the outside wall to the south you will find the way to the next map segment. Head forward from here and take out the Magma Men and Magma Giant as well as however many of the other vermin enemies you're willing to kill. Now head for the western passageway and take out the Driller here. Continue along the path and either take out, or use Dash to evade, the slew of Magma Men, Magma Giants, bats and other annoying enemies. Eventually you should see a statue, so use it to restock on supplies before you continue onward. After fighting off some obnoxious little bats you will be on a bridge with a group of Magma Men and a Magma Giant across from you. Try to lure off the Magma Men without the giant so that you can deal with them one at a time or you might get overwhelmed in this narrow area. Once they are dead you can head for the exit. ------------------------ Upper Level ------------------------ This area is either a lot of fun or a serious pain in the rear end depending on who you are playing and what your playing style is. The majority of this level has you running down a spiral staircase while you are shot at by archers, Flesh Spears jamming out of the walls and Plant Kings standing in your way. For the most part you simply need to keep running forward, avoiding the Flesh Spears and then killing the Plant Kings so you can get to the archers. Just keep it up and you will be done with the area in no time. ------------------------ Mid Level ------------------------ Mid Level is pretty much the same thing as the upper level except far more of a pain since all of the enemies here are vermin type enemies. Bats, Scorpion Spiders and Lightning Scorpion Spiders are the enemies here. Your best bet is to simply continually dash your way down the stairs and just evade the enemies. It is much simpler and way faster. ------------------------ The Inner Path ------------------------ Another spiral staircase type level. Wundabar! Rush forward and you will be greeted by bats and lots and lots of Rare Blue and Red Lizardmen Soldiers, Archers and Wizards along with a Mirror of Paradise and Flame Knight. Cut your way through them and have fun. They aren't very hard but drop fairly good items and give great Exp. I love this section. When you get to the bottom it gets a bit harder since there are now Rare Blue and Red Lizard Warriors here but you should have little difficulty. Cut through them and get to the next area. ------------------------ Lower Level ------------------------ Proceed forward and you will see a large Scorched Flesh Golem with a horde of Explosive Flesh Men and some Flesh Scorpion Spiders on the right wall. Try to thin them out from a distance, hopefully killing the golem, and then melee the rest to death. It's likely that more Flesh Scorpions will come running but you can choose to flee from them if you don't feel like fighting them. While this next area looks windy and twisty it is actually fairly linear. The path just happens to snake around. There are a whole bunch of Explosive Flesh Spears in your way, followed up by the ever fun scorpion spiders and some more Explosive Flesh Men. Blah. I would suggest just ditching the enemies, you're almost to the boss and are going to need your healing items so it's not a good idea to waste them here. Further ahead are more Flesh Men, scorpions and three Flame Knights (?!). Once again, I suggest that caution is the better part of valor so just get the heck out of there. Once you have gotten through this area you should see a statue sanctuary up ahead, so head on over to it and use it to restock as best it will allow you to. From here on it is just the entrance to the End of Rage, but it isn't a clear path. You will have to cut through a bunch of Explosive Flesh Men, a Scorched Flesh Golem and a ridiculous number of Explosive Flesh Spears. Once you manage to dispatch, or evade, them it is time to fight the boss. ------------------------ End of Rage ------------------------ This boss is probably the hardest damn fight in the game if you don't know how to handle him. If you do he is easier but still tough as hell due to the way that the idiotic area you fight him in is set up. While it may look like the lava recedes a bit to allow you more place to stand, that is only temporary. The only real place you have to stand is the place you started out on and he is going to attack the heck out of you, typically when you have no way to dodge. Wonderful programming that. He has few attacks though, the only one you need to fear at this point during the fight is a charge move. He will fling out two chains and use them to anchor himself to the ground near you and then rush forward. This is easy to dodge when the lava is out of the way but otherwise near impossible. Do your best to avoid getting hit here and try to stick to using ranged attacks on him to limit your danger. * NOTE: Keep ranged attacks aimed at either his head or arms. Body shots seem to do absolutely nothing to him. If you aren't close to him when he misses this chain attack he will try to rush at you. So long as you are aware of it you should be able to dodge it with very little difficulty and hit him a few times in melee. Typically after he does this he will walk to the middle of the lava before doing something else so you have time to hit him with Magic Shot. Every so often he will go to the ceiling, this is a blessing if you have Heal. Since you cannot hurt him simply heal yourself up and prepare for the next wave of attacks. Sometimes while on the ceiling though he will fly at your position after going to the center of the room, try to dodge this and then melee him a few times before retreating. After you have taken around half of his health he will start shooting his arms at you while standing back in the lava. Do not attack him any longer, wait for his arms to come at you and then hit them with either Magic Shot or melee type attacks. Keep on doing this until you destroy both of his arms. If you don't destroy his arms and he gets to the next phase of the fight with them you are probably dead. Once both arms are gone or he is hurt suitably he will engage in his Rage mode which is the hardest (read: Cheesiest) part of any boss fight in this game. He will keep charging at you and trying to ram you. If he does you will be sent flying around the room, proabably into lava. While you are in the lava you can not attack him or do much of anythign so he will hit you again and again and again until by chance you land back on a safe spot. Thus you need to avoid him hitting you. Ever. To do this you need to alternate between ranged weapons and Magic Shot. As soon as he starts flipping out about losing his arms begin attacking the area of his head on his body. Once you hit it he will thrash about a bit in circles, he can hurt you if you go too close to him while he's like this. While he thrashes you can fire off the magic shot or if that is recharging hit him in the back or simply keep hitting him in the head. That's all there is to this stage of the fight. If he hits you just keep trying to hit him in the face and heal so that you don't die. It's the only way to survive this part of the fight. Once he is dead stat looting around the center of the room but stick to the edge of the loot circle. Wait until that fountain of lava goes away before you even attempt to go close to the middle. Once it's gone you can loot away. ======================== Road of Chaos ======================== Betrayal ------------------------ Alrighty, the game is almost over so don't expect this to be easy. Start off by equipping any good items you got from that last boss. Once that is done pick either the left or right (upper or lower on the mini-map) and head onward. You can tell this level is going to be tough by the first enemy you fight. * NOTE: There is a roughly 50/50 chance that one of the paths is broken and that you will have to backtrack to the other path AFTER fighting the Encablosa Knights. Nothing really to be done about this as there is no way to tell from a distance which path, if either, is blocked. These Encablossian Knight might look like Ghost Knights but they are both easier and tougher at the same time. They are easier because they do less damage and are lacking in the ground explosion attack Ghost Knights use. However they are totally immune to ranged weapon attacks and they can teleport away from you mid-combo and start moving in on you again (this is easy to spot due to the white smoke cloud they leave behind). If you are playing a fast character, like Leinhart, use one of the one handed short swords against them. They cannot hope to match the way you will flip all over the place and thus they will very rarely, if ever, actually attack you much less actually land the hit. The only real threat here is the Skeleton Archers behind them taking shots on you. Try to cut through the knights, take out the Archers (or at least make them move around and stop attacking you) and then wipe out the knights. * NOTE: If you are having problems seeing the Skeleton Archers then you are not alone. Apparently, due to their coloration and the level design, several people have commented about how annoyingly hard they are to spot. The only real solution out there is to use Magic Shot to help you find them. It's not exactly perfect but there are no other solutions. Continue onward and you will fight another group of knights and archers. Kill them off and keep moving and you will find your first statue sanctuary in this realm. I heavily suggest going back to whatever previous chapters you need to to proceed with your personal storyline at this point. Only Encablosa remains to be fought so you might as well backtrack a bit, level up and finish it off for the Gamer Score. With that out of the way you can start continuing on towards completing the game. Pick one of the paths forward and head on off. This area is full of the knights and archers and little else so fight on through them and you will soon find the entrance to the next area. ------------------------ Malice ------------------------ This map starts off with four different directions you can go and this one is totally randomized. Pick a path to one direction and explore it. If that map section doesn't have the path onward then backtrack and try the other section of the map. Eventually you will find the path to proceed with. However you will also come across a new enemy here, the Encablossian Archmage. This guy looks like a less armored version of the Encablossian Knight and he has some fairly damaging attacks up his sleeve. However they are quite easy to kill due to their vulnerability to ranged weapons and the fact that they don't block. Wipe them out however you please. When you do find the path forward it will likely have Skeleton Archers, knights and archmages along with some Flesh Spears hidden in the ground. To do this without a major headache, approach them slowly and throw ranged weapons until you have killed off the archers. Then draw off the knights and get rid of them as best you can while avoiding any Flesh Spears you are aware of. Lastly move forward and engage the archmages with a ranged weapon. It's also in this area that you will really be introduced to the vermin enemy of this final level (*sigh* And here I hoped to avoid ANOTHER vermin plentiful level), the Poison Ripper. The main difference between these and other vermin is that they do give out a fair bit of EXP so you might want to go take out the dirty little pains in the rear for that purpose alone. You will come across a statue sanctuary and, upon taking one of the two paths near it, the exit. So head on into the next to last area. ------------------------ Revenge ------------------------ And this area is even more twisty turvy than the last one. You will have no less than six different ways to go. Chances are that four of those paths will turn in on themselves, revealing two circular paths and then two paths that let you continue forward. For my first two playthroughs the path to continue onward was the upper two paths. Regardless of that you will now be facing huge groups of Encablossian Knights and Archmages mixed in with groups of six or seven Metal Men and Flesh Spears littered about the floor. Some groups will have Ghost Knights mixed in with the others but it matters little. In the end this is going to be some of the hardest fights in the game due to the Metal Men and Encablossian Knights being totally immune to ranged weapons. If you are lucky you will find some Dark Knights and Ghost Knights with the Encablosa Archmages rather than the Encablossian Knights. This lets you have a fair amount of breathing space in regards to fighting them thanks to them being vulnerable to ranged weapons. So stick with that and take them out before you worry about any Metal Men or the like. Once you have reached the statue you are almost done here. Keep pushing onward to the end. The next path should take you to the final area. ------------------------ The Gateway ------------------------ Alrighty, this is it. It's time to fight the final boss. But if you are doing your character quest you may have been told to fight Keither. I will cover him here since so many characters fight him in their quest. Move forward and you will see an empty statue sanctuary. Pass it and keep going while sticking to the left side of the area. You will see a glowing orb in the distance, head to it. This leads to the Gap, move in close to it and you will be asked if you wish to open it. Do so, move away and then enter the Gap. ------------------------ The Gap ------------------------ This place only exists to bring you this one fight against Keither, one of the heroes of the older Kingdom Under Fire games. He is an incredibly tough foe if you aren't prepared for him and he has several tricks up his sleeve that can easily cost you the fight. Keither uses the following attacks: 1 - If you keep your distance he will hurl out a large group of Crows or Ravens at you. These do a little bit of damage but afflict you with Darkness. It can easily be sidestepped. 2 - A multi-slash combo that will punish you if you stay close. You should be able to see it coming though so just back off and hit him with ranged attacks. The last attack has a lot of distance so don't underestimate it. 3 - A thrust attack followed by some crows. This doesn't do too much damage but it is near impossible to avoid without dashing away from him. 4 - Several horns come out of the ground and surround him, knocking you down, doing some pretty bad damage and rendering him invulnerable briefly. Now you have a few options with how to approach this fight. You can do more damage to him if you stay in melee with him but he can punish you rather badly if you do this. Common sense suggests that you stay away from him and this is a very good idea. Try to keep the clock tower embedded in the ground between you two in the least and keep side stepping so that you can dodge his raven attack. You should have no problem doing this until he has lost half of his health. * NOTE: If you are using a weak weapon then try throwing in some Magic Shot attacks every now and again. They can help cut down his health. Once you have dropped his health down to around 50% the fight starts to get a tad bit more complicated. He will start a clock looking animation that he is totally invulnerable while doing. I heavily suggest that you use the Heal skill while he is doing this. When the animation finishes he will stagger and then be surrounded by a red aura that links to the clock tower by a tether. Don't even approach him while he is like this he is invulnerable, regenerating his health and can beat you down badly. What you need to do is keep some space between the two of you and use melee attacks and Magic Shot spells to hurt the clock tower. It doesn't have a health bar or anything like that but it is still being hurt. Keep using the aim button to lock onto Keither and just hammer on the tower until his red aura fades. If you have a ranged weapon that does more than 40 damage a hit you can feel free to simply spend the rest of this fight at a distance, breaking the clock tower regeneration when it comes up and just generally playing it safe. But if you don't there is a more risky way to handle him. Keither will use the regeneration ability fairly often once his health is lower than 50% and he will keep doing so in an effort to raise it up above that mark. If you keep taking it down and beating on him he will slowly but steadily do it less and less but if you are using a weak ranged weapon you likely won't live through this waiting game. So there's a trick to beating him: Enter melee. That simple action changes how Keither reacts. Rather than using his aura over and over and healing he will begin to enter attack animations in an attempt to kill you hardcore. This works to your advantage if you fight intelligently. What you want to do is stay near him, hitting him with melee attacks, until he starts an attack animation. Quickly run away and start hitting him with your strongest ranged attacks. As soon as his attack animation ends rush him again and start hitting him in melee. More than likely he will attempt to melee you again so you just need to keep repeating the above method. * NOTE: If you see him prepping to do the dash attack don't even bother trying to flee, just keep attacking. It's almost impossible to dodge the attack and you are better served continuing to deal damage. Using the above method he should die in no time. Pick up the loot and then you are warped back to the previous area. ------------------------ The Gateway ------------------------ With Keither out of the way the statue will now be there. Equip your best stuff and sell the rest. Now synthesize your heart away, restock on healing items and sleep to continue your story to its end. With all that done it is time to fight Encablossa, so head on over to the large bone looking passageway to reach the final fight. ------------------------ End of Chaos ------------------------ For a final boss Encablossa is a serious pushover. He only has two major forms of attack for the first half of the fight. To start with he will fly around as a white energy figure and send objects flying at you and occasionally zapping you with energy. If you have enough healing potions you can essentially ignore his attacks and return fire. Take note that he is only vulnerable to magical attacks at this point so either dodge him or use the Needle attack. * NOTE: Magic Shot will get confused by the debris and typically ignore hitting the boss entirely. This makes it entirely unreliable but still useable. Just don't expect too much from it. Eventually he will turn into a black figure. He uses the same attacks but he is only vulnerable to melee and ranged weapon attacks. I suggest hanging back and hitting him with a good ranged weapon. After you damage him some he start a new attack, spinning head first into your character. Simply side step to avoid this but try not to be too close to where he lands since he will sometimes cause flames to burst up. This is easy enough to dodge. Also he will at random send lightning or ice at you, afflicting you with the appropriate status effect. Once you have taken a good half of his health he will pull the walls of the gateway to him and cover his body with it. In this form he will occasionally send some of the debris at you and try to ram into you. Neither does a lot of damage so just hang back and keep on firing ranged attacks, Needle Spells and the occasional Magic Shot at him. Avoid melee, it just doesn't work out all too good for you, and he will die soon enough. Huzzah, you beat the game! If you completed your characters quest simply wait for the credits to finish rolling to get that achievement. ========================================================= 5. Individual Quests ========================================================= This entire section of the FAQ was written with some collaboration with some friends whom I conned into renting the game. If you notice any errors please pass it along our way and I will update the FAQ. ============== Celine ============== * When you go to sleep you will need to talk to Moonlight about curing Curian. You will be told to get the Spirit Crystal from the place Celine and Curian left years ago. Search through the Forest of Embracing for it, starting at the beginning and scouring each map in turn. It is randomly placed so just keep on looking for it. * Once you sleep with the Crystal in hand Moonlight will ask for the mind of those who were once living. Head to the last section of the Forest of Embracing and keep on killing the undead there until you complete this quest. * Now sleep again and you will be told to get an Elixir from the Idol of Death. The idol says he needs a Splinter of Death. This will have to wait until you get to the City of Desolation. Once there slaughter the Blacksand Soldiers and this quest will complete. Head back to the idol to get the elixir. * Sleep again and Moonlight will congratulate you on getting it. However that is the end of the quest for the moment. * When your each the Valley of Solitude sleep at an Idol and talk to Moonlight. Turns out that Curians mutant form has been killed but his Will is holding on. You must speak to the Idols before that too passes on. * Go to the Idols and talk to them, each of them require something done. The Idol of Death wants Cursed Honors, Greed wants Pure Gold and Love wants Cold Love. Okay... this is a little tricky. - Cursed Honors can be obtained by fighting cursed honorable warriors, ie. the spectral Ghost Knight enemies. You will need to kill one of each of them to get this completed. You can find them: 1. Ghost Knight - Forest of Embracing 2. Flame Knight - City of Desolation 3. Lightning Knight - City of Desolation 4. Dark Knight - Hall of Arrogance 5. Ice Knight - Valley of Solitude Completing this nets you Curian's Mind Trace. - Pure Gold is gotten from Golden Louse which only spawn in the Twilight Corridor in the Hall of Arrogance. Keep looking for them until you find and kill them. This isn't enough but unlike most monsters these guys will keep on respawning. Leave the map square you are on and return to take them out again. Keep this up until you get 100%. Now the Idol will take Curian's Mind Trace, if you have it, and tell you it's going to take some time. You can either leave the game running (worked for me) or keep playing through the game and just keep checking on the Idol (worked for my friends). - Cold Love is gotten from the Yuki Onma and Yuki Otoko in the Valley of Solitude. Go on and keep killing them until you have gotten it. Now bring the Cold Love to the Idol and she tells you where Curian's Spirit Crystal is. Head to the Cave of Rage and search the first area for it. - Go back to sleep after all that and talk to Mononlight to advance the plot. - Continue on to the next statue and sleep again to further the plot. - Once again keep playing and go to sleep again to further the plot. - After you reach the next statue and sleep the side quest is for all intents and purposes over. All that is left is to fight Encablossa and end the game to see what happens. ============== Curian ============== While Curian has no actual quests to engage in he does have a special tome he can read while sleeping. This tome details the history of the world and gives you quite a bit of background about the game that would have been nice if they explained it otherwise. There are 44 pages so have fun reading. ============== Duane ============== Duane doesn't have a true quest either. Instead he will reminisce about the days of old when he was trying to win the hand of Lady Marguerite. This forces you to have to duel another suitor named Bertrand for her hand. To do this you will have to duel Bertrand an ungodly amount of times and it can be rather hard to do this. Your goal is to get your favor with Marguerite up to 100%. The gains and losses during the duel are as follows: +3% for winning a duel. -2% for losing a duel. -2% for unlearning an ability. Do not play Duane as your first PC or you are in for a serious headache as you try to figure out what abilities to use. What I am working on is a listing of all of the types of attacks that Bertrand will do and what he says just before doing it. The reason this is so important is that once you know what he is going to do, you know how to respond. So if he says something that tells you that he is going to attack downward then you must block or parry downward. * NOTE: Parrying is very powerful but it isn't always successful. It stops working reliably once you get your favor up to 45% or so. So at this point I heavily suggest you simply start blocking ============== Kendal ============== * Sleep and talk to Moonlight at the first statue. * Sleep and talk to Moonlight at the next statue. * Now when you sleep again you should see Walter in the dream. Sometimes the quest isn't started yet, I'm not sure why. If that happens Wake Up and clear the area you are in before coming back to this statue and sleeping again. It might take a bit but Walter will eventually mention a Pendant and Moonlight gives you a quest. * It's going to take a bit but head for the City of Desolation and start taking out all enemies in your path until you find it. Go to sleep and talk to your buddy Moonlight. Apparently you have to talk to the Idol of Love. * You are now told to pick up five pieces of Spiritual Purity located inside of the Halls of Arrogance. These look like glowing orbs (all quest objects look like that actually) and are scattered all over the place. When you appear in a map look around and then scour each and every corner. * With all pieces in hand talk to the Idol of Love. Now go to sleep and talk to Moonlight to advance the quest. * When you do talk to Moonlight two things can happen. He will either tell you that you have to wait to fight Curian or he will give you the key. If he gives you the key then you can go fight Curian but if he doesn't fight your way to the next statue and sleep again. If you have leveled up, gained an ability or even just changed equipment he should give you the key. Now wake up. * Take the key and go to the City of Desolation and head to the 3rd area, the Evening area, and search the map. You will soon find the End of Desolation. ------------------------ End of Desolation ------------------------ Not only do you have to kill Mutant Curian to advance the storyline but there is also an achievement for doing so. Curian isn't exactly a very tough foe. All of his attacks are melee based and they do a fair bit of damage but Kendal should have little difficulty with taking him out. He has two attacks of note: a radial attack where he can do a fair bit of damage no matter where you stand near him and a bit away from his body and a spin move that does a lot of damage if you are too close to him. I would suggest using a ranged weapon to pluck at his health or possibly the Needle or Magic Shot spell. Once his health has dropped you can close in on him and start beating on him in melee. If you have a good supply of Small and Medium Red Potions you should have little difficulty taking him out. If he is too hard for you simply don't fight him now and come back later. * NOTE: With that door open you can now farm Curian like you do any other boss for the EXP and items. * Alright now you need to solve a little riddle but it isn't as hard as it can seem at first. Head to the Hall of Arrogance and clear the level until you end up back in the Antechamber just before you go up to fight Loki. Now head for the entrance to the Sunrise Atrium but don't enter it. Let the prompt come up and select no and then continue walking forward. In this area is a staircase that, when used, leads to the Glass of Serenity. * Now head over to an idol and sleep. Keep talking to him, changing statues and talking to him until he mentions the Water Embracing Time. Now head back to the Forest of Embracing and find the waterfall in the second area. You should see the glowing orb that has the waters. Pick it up and sleep. * Another mission, yay! Go to the Cave of Rage and look for the glowing orb. When I did the quest it was near the end of the stage, right before you enter the End of Rage but others have said it was right at the beginning in the Lava Tower area. Once that is done go to sleep again. * This quest is ridiculous. Essentially what you have to do now is go to the Halls of Arrogance and comb through all the areas to find three tomes. However these tomes are not guaranteed to be there and you might only find one, or even absolutely none, on a pass through. I had to pass through the area five times to find them. Luckily by this point you should be cutting through enemies like it's no problem. You can even pick up a few skills while doing this. * With those in hand go to sleep. Encablossa will give you the key to the Gap in the dimension. * Fight your way to the Gateway area, the final area of the Dimension, and go to the Gap and defeat Keither. * Go to the statue and sleep to further the story. * Now go kill Encablossa to end the storyline. ============== Leinhart ============== * Sleep at the first idol to get some exposition on the storyline. * When you sleep at the second statue you get more quest information but you also get the first inkling of his quest. * At the next idol sleep again to actually get the quest started. * Wake up and talk to the Idol of Death. He in turn tells you to talk to the Idol of Greed. He points you to the Idol of Love to get him a Seed of Lust. She tells you to get her the seed of a regular plant. Finally. * Don't even bother with this quest for the moment. Beat all the enemies you encounter on the maps in the Forest of Embracing and clear the area. You should kill 2 Plant Kings along the way. Now warp back to the Forest from the first statue in the City of Desolation. The Forest will now have plenty of Plant Kings for you to fight. Kill 10 of them to get the Seed and bring it back to the Idol of Love. * The Idol tells you that you need to kill the Ice Maiden to nurture the seed in Endless Desire. Go to the Valley of Solitude and kill her. I didn't get it the first time I fought her so I went back, killed her again and I got it. Be sure to check your quest log since there is no indication you got it. * Now warp back to the Forest of Embracing and turn around. Right behind where you start is a golden orb. Stand on it to advance the story. Go talk to the Idol of Love to find out why it didn't grow. * She tells you that you need the Water Embracing Time which is found in the Forest of Embracing. Joy. Cut your way through enemies to the second map and you should see it when there is a waterfall to your right. Pick it up, double back to where you planted the seed and you will get the Seed of Lust. * Go to the nearest Statue of Greed and you will be told that Encablossa will speak to you in your dreams. * Sleep at the idol and speak to Encablossa. You are told that he wants to test you out and you are to get the Paused Hourglass for him from the Spiral of Desolation. Go to the Evening map of the City of Desolation and follow the path to go through the stage. You will see the glowing orb as you cut through all the vermin enemies down the spiral ramp. Pick it up and get out of here. * When you sleep Encablossa taunts you and says vampires can't be mutated. But he tells you to get the Narrow Wisdom and Potion of Self-Confidence if you are that desperate for mutation. * After you complete the End of Rage you will be at the start of the Road of Chaos. Turn around and you should see the glowing orb right behind where you started, in between what looks like a giant ribcage. Pick it up. * The Potion of Self-Confidence is gotten from Keither, located in the Gap. You get there by reaching the final area of the Road of Chaos and opening up the Gap and going inside. Fight Keither and you will get the potion. * With those in hand sleep a few times until Morene disappears and Valdemaar is repeating himself. Once all that is done go and defeat Encablossa to end this quest. ============== Regnier ============== * Sleep to meet Encablossa and start up the story. * Sleep at the next statue to proceed with the story a bit. * Sleep at the next idol to further the story yet more. * Sleep at the next statue to actually start the quest. It seems that you need the Blessing of the Absolute from the Idols. * Wake up and talk to the Idol of Death. He explaisn what the Blessing is and gives you the Splinter of Death before telling you to speak to the other Idols for the other pieces. Do so to get the Splinter of Love and Splinter of Greed. Now sleep and talk to Encablossa again to start the meat of the quest. * Now you need to make the Splinters grow into their Perfect forms. You are to start with the Perfect Greed. Simply go to the Hall of Arrogance and kill all of the enemies in your way. Sculptors and Statues are the key here and you will get messages that the Splinter has grown occasionally. Eventually you will be told that it has grown into the Perfect Greed. * Sleep and talk to Encablossa to be told that you are to work on Perfect Love. Go to the Valley of Solitude and start killing Yuki Onmas and Yuki Otokos until you are told that it has become Perfect Love. Sleep and talk to Encablossa to start work on the Perfect Death. * This one takes a bit more work but it isn't so hard as it might appear. You need to kill all sorts of Undead to make this one max itself out but there is a very easy way to go about it. Warp back to the Forest of Embracing and simply start cutting your way through the levels of the game. By the time I got back to the Ice Maiden boss I had this maxed out. Just kill anything that looks like an undead and you will do fine. Eventually it will turn into Perfect Death. Go to sleep and talk to Encablossa. * NOTE: If you bring a greed enchanted weapon you can gain some great EXP on this trip through the game. * Wake up and go right back to sleep at that same idol. Talk to Encablossa to get a nice little cutscene. * After that ends talk to Encablossa and he will task you with killing off Keither and Moonlight to cleanse his dimension. * Make your way to the Gateway map in the Road of Chaos, just before the final boss fight. Look for the Gap entrance and go inside. Take out Keither. * Go to the statue and sleep. You will be told that Moonlight has mutated and is holding the dimensions open. Obviously he needs to be taken out. * Wake up and go fight the final boss. Even though it says you're fighting Encablossa, and he looks just like when every other character fights Encablossa at the end, it's supposed to be Moonlight. Kill him to end the game and so you can see the ending. ========================================================= 6. Skills ========================================================= This section lists what enemies you must kill to get each of the skills that are available in this game. Note that most of the skills are entirely useless in the grand scheme of things so you might not have to bother with them. Also take note that you usually don't need to kill every single enemy listed. After you kill enough of the enemies the skill will unlock. For example the skill Dash, you only need to kill 4 of the 6 groups of enemies to unlock the skill. * NOTE: I heavily suggest that you learn the Dash, Heal, Magic Shot and Petrifying Breath attacks. Dash is great for when you don't feel like fighting certain enemies, Heal is self-explanatory and can save you potions and Magic Shot is just generally incredibly useful for damaging bosses. Petrifying Breath is limited in usefulness but it is integral to getting a particular achievement that you cannot get otherwise. ------------------------ Novice ------------------------ Needle Plant Jack x7 Plant Queen x7 Stalker x33 -------------- Dash Red Lizardman Soldier x6 Blue Lizardman Soldier x6 Stalker x13 Red Lizardman Warrior x1 Blue Lizardman Warrior x1 Wooden Golem x1 -------------- Clap -------------- Magic Shot Stalker x60 Blue Lizardman Wizard x10 -------------- Throw Sand Red Lizardman Soldier x30 Blue Lizardman Soldier x30 Red Lizardman Archer x30 Blue Lizardman Archer x30 -------------- Cherub Statue Skeleton Soldier x16 Skeleton Archer x13 -------------- Chilling Touch Blue Lizardman Wizard x13 Rare Blue Lizardman Wizard x3 Blue Lizardman Warrior x5 Rare Blue Lizardman Warrior x2 -------------- Poison Needle Plant King x2 Stalker x20 Ripper x13 Poison Ripper x13 -------------- Leap -------------- Punch -------------- Heal Red Lizardman Wizard x20 Blue Lizardman Wizard x20 Plant King x7 ------------------------ Intermediate ------------------------ Darkness Hand Ghost Knight x17 Rare Ghost Knight x8 Dark Knight x17 Rare Dark Knight x8 Blacksand Shaman of Darkness x100 Blacksand Warrior x33 -------------- Bleed Forest Guardian Head x12 Forest Guardian x2 -------------- Chain Lightning Lightning Knight x6 Rare Lightning Knight x3 Blacksand Shaman of Fire and Lightning x13 Iron Golem x6 Rare Iron Golem x3 -------------- Mirror of Abyss Chandelier x2 Sculptor Apprentice x20 Sculptor Maestro x20 -------------- Icicle Frozen Flesh Spear x13 Ice Knight x13 Blacksand Soldier x66 Frozen Flesh Man x13 -------------- Weep Ripper x66 -------------- Web Scorpion Spider x53 Blacksand Shaman of Darkness x10 Blacksand Soldier x66 Louse x66 -------------- Snow Bat Snow Bat x60 Frozen Flesh Man x20 Ice Knight x25 Yuki Onna x40 -------------- Fireball Red Lizardman Wizard x33 Forest Guardian Head x7 Blacksand Shaman of Fire and Lightning x17 -------------- Explosion Mutated Curian x1 Blacksand Shaman of Fire and Lightning x13 -------------- Drill Driller x20 Ice Driller x20 -------------- Flesh Spear Flesh Spear x20 Ghost Knight x6 Flesh Man x20 -------------- Power of Love #1 Flesh Man x33 Frozen Flesh Man x33 Explosive Flesh Man x33 Frozen Ice Maiden x2 -------------- Thorn Forest Guardian x7 Forest Guardian Head x100 Plant King x33 Plant Queen x100 -------------- Ice Sword Frozen Ice Maiden x1 Frozen Flesh Man x33 Ice Knight x13 Rare Ice Knight x6 Ice Driller x13 -------------- Golem Heart Magma Man x33 Magma Giant x6 -------------- Allure Necromancer x13 Fire Necromancer x13 Ice Necromancer x13 -------------- Explosive Flesh Spear -------------- Self-Injury -------------- Angel Statue Cherub Statue x33 Angel Statue x20 Archangel Statue x13 -------------- Vampire Bat Flesh Man x100 Flesh Spear x100 Flesh Golem x20 -------------- Archangel Statue -------------- Petrify Breath Sculptor Apprentice x200 Sculptor Maestro x20 Angel Statue x30 Archangel Statue x10 Invisible x50 ------------------------ Advanced ------------------------ Power of Love #2 Rare Encablossan Archmage x6 Encablossan Archmage x20 Yuki Onna x33 Yuki Otoko x26 Mutated Curian x3 Keither x3 * NOTE: It is impossible to do this quest unless you are playing as, or play with an online friend who is using, Kendal.
