Having no multiplayer component whatsoever is disappointing. The single-player campaign offers great venues for racing, dog fights, and destruction derby type modes, and yet none are present to be enjoyed with others. With the campaign allowing you to add many vehicles stolen from enemies to your own personal collection, it's a shame that we can't see these trophies individually tailored and put on display against opposing players in various contests of vehicular skill.

Mad Max is not a bad game. In fact, when placed amongst other video games adapted from movies, it is rather exceptional. However, Max's brooding demeanor rarely gives way to a dramatic overtone that might have us genuinely rooting for him. His cause is good, albeit mysterious, but his actions are redundant. He wanders the barren lands, dismantling the psychotic while rebuilding a treasured vehicle scrap piece by scrap piece.

For me, the monotonous grind is satisfying because each small measure of success reaps a tangible reward in the form of a personal or vehicular upgrade. This may not grant each player the same pleasure, thus I would recommend Mad Max to fans of the series and those who enjoy what fruits and failings an open-world action game offers.

RATING OUT OF 5
RATING DESCRIPTION
4.4
Graphics
It's hard to imagine a desolate backdrop so finely detailed. It's naive to expect much more than sand and junk piles, though it still would have been nice to see in such a vast map.
3.8
Control
Navigating through combat sequences and driving a vehicle are smooth enough. The camera however, is not nearly as intuitive.
4.4
Music / Sound FX / Voice Acting
There's a hand of restraint that is welcome with the placement of music. In combat however, it's a cacophony of destruction.
3.5
Play Value
There is certainly no shortage of things to do in the wasteland, however the redundant pattern can become a chore.
