There is sex in video games now. So what. Who cares? Why’s it such a big deal all of a sudden? No one got this pissed when Samus Aran pulled off her space suit the first time to reveal herself as a woman in Metroid . It was barely even thinkable that a woman character would even be the protagonist of a video game. Certainly it was revolutionary, but not controversial. Here’s some steamy reasons for the hot and sexy fun we gamers are getting into these days.
Sex Is Fun
I would hope that this goes without saying. How many people frequent strip clubs in real life? It only makes sense that they would do the same in Grand Theft Auto V . So what if you see boobs…it’s a strip club! If you don’t want to see boob and girls trying to make you horny, don’t go in!
You can’t deny beautiful women make things better. They enhance the setting and the visuals in games. There aren’t very many character models more appealing than an attractive female.
Do I really need to say anymore. In the music industry, they will tell you that if you can bring chicks into your shows, then the guys will follow. Why do you think that is? That’s right, boobies. So, if you want sales–especially from the male demographic, you’re gonna need boobies. Why do you think Dragon’s Crown is doing so well?
Sex Can Be Funny
Okay, let’s take a look at a scenario. In game, a dude is running towards you with a knife. You have several options. You could gun him down, but that’s a little boring and overdone. You could punch him in the face when he gets close enough, but that’s also a little cliché. Or you could bash his head in with a giant purple sex toy. Now THAT is fun! Talk about adding insult to injury.
Sex Is Educational
Not only do you learn the obvious topical anatomy of the female frame, it can also teach you about resource management. For example, you go into the Vanilla Unicorn in GTA V , and you only have $600 to spend. You are given some options. You can either just toss a dollar out for the stripper to pick up or you can “make it rain” and toss a handful of money onto the stage. Then you can take one to a back room for a lap dance if you want. Just remember, you still need to grab some bullets before the next job. See? Math is fun.
Blowing Off Steam
In the real world, sex is one of the great stress relievers. So it’s only natural that sex is given as an option for your in-game character to do the same. Relieving some stress with a little hanky panky never hurt anyone. Unless, of course, you’re the guy who feels like sex isn’t enough for your character to de-stress, so you jump out of the car and kill the hooker and take your money back.
I’m the Hero
I see nothing wrong with the savior of the galaxy getting a little nooky before going into battle. In Mass Effect , you are given the option to foster a relationship with one of many characters aboard the Normandy. So since you are on a suicide mission to try and stop a millennia old foe from destroying all life in the galaxy, how come you shouldn’t get some strange before you die? Just sayin’.
Look around in Saint’s Row: The Third . You will see a hugely unbalanced ration between hot girls and not hot girls. The hotties are everywhere in Stillport. They are on the streets, in the clubs, in gangs, and pretty much everywhere else. They even come to your crib to pole dance and lap dance for your homies in between trying to reclaim the glory days of the Saints. So take a load off and enjoy the view.
Diversion of Reality
Let’s look at this in another way. A more tragic one. Some people just don’t have the constitution to go up and actually make conversation with a beautiful woman. Even less of those people would have the courage to ask one of them for their number. And a staggeringly smaller number would even be able to muster up the bravado to try and get it on with one. So in a way, sex in games is providing a service to those who would otherwise never experience the feeling of conquest in dating.
Finally, it gives us all a sense that maybe, just maybe, we could have a shot at some random hot chick at a club or bar if we had the clothes, cars, or money to throw around like the characters do in our games. So we go out into our mundane real lives and try to challenge ourselves by asking what would our gaming heroes do. We try to better our sexual station in life by using the machismo we glean from games and trying to apply it to real life. Seriously, sometimes it works. I have a few friends that have been very successful with pick-up lines they took from games. The girls knew them too, so they hit it off, and the next thing you knew…well, you get the point.
