2012 Is the Year of the Portable Game

2012 Is the Year of the Portable Game

None

Any new system, portable or otherwise, needs to have a killer app to get it off the ground. Up until now, the 3DS hasn’t really had that killer app. However, it is greatly increasing its library in 2012. Perhaps that, coupled with the recent price drop, will get Nintendo back on top of the portable market.

In 2012, Nintendo will be releasing Mario Tennis, Paper Mario, and Animal Crossing for the 3DS. In addition, the 3DS will be getting a new Fire Emblem, a new horror game called Shinrei Camera from the makers of Fatal Frame, a new Style Savvy release, and Japanese games Culdcept, Calciobit, and Tomodachi Collection. In addition, Kid Icarus: Uprising, which was originally slated to come out this year has also been delayed to 2012. However, all these are Japanese release dates only, so it’s uncertain if these games will come out in America in 2012 as well.

Sony isn’t sitting on its hands when it comes to the PS Vita though. We already know big name titles like Uncharted and Street Fighter X Tekken will be coming to the PS Vita next year, and now we can add Super Monkey Ball to that list. Sega has officially announced that the Vita’s Monkey Ball will be hitting in early 2012, shortly after the release of the console.

Who do you think will win the portable gaming race?
