The rumors were true! It seems the first wave of Xbox One S goodness will be rolling out on August 2 for $400. This was confirmed this morning via an official blog post from Major Nelson. “Today, we’re pleased to announce that the highly-anticipated 2TB Xbox One S launch edition will begin hitting shelves in select regions on August 2.” He goes on: “That means that all pre-orders will arrive on August 2 and, for those of you that haven’t yet, you can still pre-order a 2TB Xbox One S launch edition through microsoftstore.com and select retailers.” Shortly after E3 Microsoft announced that Xbox One S pre-orders were blowing up, but I’m sure they’re keen to exaggerate a bit to drum up some hype. Either way, if you’re planning on picking up the 2TB model, you’re probably better off securing your pre-order sooner rather than later.
1TB and 500GB options are also in the works, which will sell for $350 and $300, respectively. Official release dates for those models have yet to be announced, but will be “shared soon.” The Xbox One S will also come bundled with the new Xbox Wireless Controller, which features a textured grip, improved wireless signal, and Bluetooth support. The controller will be made available to purchase separately beginning August 2 for $60. For anyone thinking about upgrading from their OG Xbox One, take comfort in the fact that all of your games and accessories will work on the Xbox One S.
