3D Realms Acquired by Interceptor Entertainment

3D Realms Acquired by Interceptor Entertainment

Apogee Software and 3D Realms, responsible for the original Duke Nukem games, has been bought by SDN Invest, the parent company of Interceptor Entertainment. Mike Nielson, SDN Invest Founder has been appointed as the new CEO of 3D Realms.

Interceptor Entertainment is currently working on a Duke Nukem RPG entitled Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction . So yes, a company who was making a new Duke Nukem game under the Duke Nukem license, now owns the original company that held that license. I guess this is where Duke’s new home is going to be from now on.

“3D Realms is legendary for its contributions to the gaming industry, as both the pioneer of the shareware model and an always generous partner who has provided both funding and guidance to game studios such as id Software, Parallax Software, Remedy Entertainment, and many others,” Nielson said in a press statement.

“3D Realms has also developed, co-developed, and co-financed such hits as Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Raptor, Shadow Warrior and Prey. There are only a handful of independent studios with a better track record of original games. Yet even with this stellar track record, we hope we can take the company to new heights.”
