3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Nintendo 3DS. It was released on July 22, 2015. Unfortunately, this game is no longer available to purchase officially because the 3DS Nintendo e-Shop was discontinued in March 2023. However, this game is still available to those who bought it before the shop was discontinued and for those who choose to emulate it. The title was also re-released as Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage and Sega Ages: Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
3D Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Premise
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the sequel to the original game. This title introduced the world to Miles “Tails” Prower, Sonic’s sidekick. Upon release, the game received critical acclaim, and many people consider it one of the greatest games ever. 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ported over the entirety of the original and the following new features:
- A new mode called “Ring Keeper” where the player starts each Act with ten rings and only loses half their rings when hit.
- Stereoscopic 3D.
- A 2-player VS. and co-op mode that utilizes wireless co-op play.
- A screen filter for emulating the visuals of old-fashioned television sets.
- Customizable controls.
- Sound options.
- Save states.
- An entirely original credits sequence.
- A new mode called “Super Sonic Mode” is unlocked after beating the game once. Here, the player starts with all Chaos Emeralds unlocked, allowing Super Sonic to be playable from the start. This mode also gives the player fifty rings at the beginning of each Act.
