7 Games That Needed Just a Little Bit More…

So many games leave people hanging. Maybe it is because of things that developers intended to do more with, like characters or locations. It could be because of time running out to explore things. Maybe a follow-up was planned, then fell through. Plotholes and cliffhangers can be heartbreaking. While now, we can sometimes hope for expansions, odds are we’ll never see any sort of interactive resolution for these games anytime soon.

Mirror’s Edge

Mirror’s Edge

This is a plotline that will never be resolved, since Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst never brought it up. But in the original Mirror’s Edge , there is an ominous enemy that is basically a one-off occurrence. Except, the Runner-Assassins never show up outside of one mission. Which is odd, considering the reveal that one person is someone so notable. While this was part of cut content, it would have been great if this storyline had been resolved in an add-on expansion.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

Vincent’s solo outing was a weird, but interesting game that did a lot to expand on the Final Fantasy VII lore. It also ended up tying into Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and set up what could have been a sequel. Except, at the very end, we see a big bad from the eventual Zack-exclusive spin-off run away with Vincent’s most recent foe, and there’s no resolution. Considering the current course of things and how long it will probably take for the Final Fantasy VII Remake to conclude, we might have to wait a decade for some resolution. But really, if PS2 games often got expansions, this is one that would have needed it.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Mass Effect: Andromeda

What happened to the Quarian Ark? Mass Effect: Andromeda dropped so many hints about it. We knew that it was supposed to be coming. DLC was teased. Except, the game tanked. Resources were pulled. It didn’t get any add-ons. People had to wait for a book, Mass Effect: Andromeda Annihilation by Catherynne M. Valente, to provide answers. But, how many people actually go back and read the extra literature? This game deserved an expansion that provided answers.

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7

This is more of a sticking point because it likely will be resolved, but won’t be resolved quickly. The Resident Evil 7 DLC, called Not a Hero, brings back Chris Redfield in a new role. He’s working with Umbrella, the one company you wouldn’t expect him to associate with, and handling the Baker ranch. It leaves so many unanswered questions about what’s going on. Eventually, we’ll probably get answers. But, it almost feels like a full expansion would be a better way to handle all of this than just a brief add-on.

Turok 3

Turok 3

Since it has been so many years, I am going to go ahead and post the cliffhanger details here. Joshua isn’t dead. Adon has proof that he is alive and wants to save them. When the Council of Voices says no, she decides to go rogue. It seemed to set up a scenario where people might play as Adon to reach Joshua, then have the duo fight to survive against the Council. An expansion would have been a huge help. But, now that Turok is coming back with remasters and a spin-off, maybe we could get a proper new installment with answers.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade Chronicles X has a lot of plotholes. So many elements were left unexplained when the game ended. Once you land on Mira, the Ghosts just disappear. We saw someone fall before the end, but then suddenly alive and well after the credits. There was even text at the end that said, “The story never truly ends…” There desperately needed to be an expansion here, to explain what happened with this character. Or, I mean, we could always get a Nintendo Switch port with expansion content built into it.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2

Why is Mexico in Red Dead Redemption 2 ? It doesn’t make any sense. Yes, it could eventually be tied to some Red Dead Online elements. Or, it could instead be a perfect opportunity to give people a really cool Red Dead Redemption expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2 . Spoilers aside, John Marston plays a big role in both games. Having an extended add-on to go even further into his story would be great.
