A Drinker’s Guide to Video Games: 21+ Only

A Drinker’s Guide to Video Games: 21+ Only

Not every gamer sits down with their favorite titles while crumpling a Doritos bag and chugging a two liter of Mountain Dew. No, I’d much prefer a Coke Zero and some sunflower seeds. But I’m no self-centered ninny; that’s not what everyone wants to drink when they’re gaming! Besides, some titles are just suited to specific kinds of beverages. That’s what we’re going to dive into today here on Cheat Code Central. Here are eight games with their most applicable thirst-quenching pairings.

Juniper Berry Beer with Skyrim

Juniper Berry Beer with Skyrim

No one who has ever played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has escaped without knowledge of juniper berry mead. The reference is right there in the opening, and every time you create a new character, you’re going to hear all about it again. So let’s break away with something slightly different, eh? There are all sorts of juniper berry beers out there in the world. And your humble writer has even had the chance to sample one from Sam Adams. The juniper berries in these beers will transport you to Skyrim , where you’ll have plenty of liquid courage to take on the dragons!

Metroid Cocktail with Metroid

Metroid Cocktail with Metroid

This entry in our list is a bit of a cheat. This cocktail might not be the best taste pairing for an evening of Metroid game playing, but it sure looks the part. We can thank the Drunken Moogle for this concoction of rum, Kool-Aid, Sprite, and strawberries that looks a lot like a real living metroid. If strawberries aren’t really your thing, you could probably leave the creature-creating fruits out and enjoy the drink on its own.

A Stout with L.A. Noire

A Stout with L.A. Noire

There’s nothing quite like a cold brew to get those detective juices flowing. For L.A. Noire , it seemed that the time period was best set to a stout of sorts. My personal favorite is Guinness, but there are a great many varieties of frothy, bitter pints to be had out there. So pick your favorite and get down to business reading those facial reactions to find who-dun-it. Make sure you don’t have too many brews, or you might start to struggle!

Grog with Sea of Thieves

Grog with Sea of Thieves

The best drink for any pirate-y adventures has almost always been grog. As far as the most recent titles to utilize it, Sea of Thieves has really managed to put it front and center. When you’re not battling krakens, you can down yourself a mug (or four) of grog. For the uninitiated, grog is essentially watered down rum. So it’s even great for those of us who don’t have a lot of money to spare! Buy yourself some cheap rum, water that sucker on down, and enjoy some perfectly legal pirating!

Sake with Okami

Sake with Okami

If there’s one drink that just screams Japan more than any other, its sake. That’s why this is the perfect drink to pair with Okami . Take in the beautiful surroundings, watch cherry blossom petals fall from trees, battle a couple demons, and enjoy some sake (hot or cold!) along the way. The only trouble here is that you need to make sure you aren’t drinking too many tiny glasses of sake. Those bad boys add up! And your brush skills will no doubt get worse as the night goes on.

Mead with God of War (2018)

Mead with God of War (2018)

The newest God of War takes Kratos from his Greek origins and puts a whole Norse spin on things. Thus for this newest entry in the God of War franchise, only a Norse drink would do. Vikings are inherently tied to Norse culture, and if there was one thing that Vikings enjoyed drinking most, it was mead. Well, mead and beer, but we’re pretty certain mead came first. If you haven’t enjoyed mead before, what you mostly need to know is that it’s essentially a honey wine. The alcoholic content for it can range from a mild 3.5% all the way up to 20%. I’d wager Kratos drinks the stronger stuff, and so might you!

Rum and Coke (Nuka Cola Style) with Fallout

Rum and Coke (Nuka Cola Style) with Fallout

I’d like to say I struggled with what drink should pair well with Fallout , but there was really only one choice that made any single semblance of sense. The only choice can be a rum and coke… or in this case, a Nuka Cola! While you can’t run down to your local grocery store and purchase a Nuka Cola any time soon, you can at least pick up some other variant. I’ve heard this Coca-Cola is actually pretty comparable. Mix it with some rum, and you’ve got a classic to sip on while traversing the wastelands.

Moonshine with The Witcher 3

Moonshine with The Witcher 3

Anyone who has played The Witcher 3 will probably already understand perfectly well why I have deigned moonshine to be the perfect pairing. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, I’m not about to ruin a beautiful scene for you. But just know that moonshine is one of Geralt’s favorite drinks, and you might as well join him in some fun. If you’re a scaredy-cat like me, you can start out with just a little sip. But like all these items on our list, make sure you enjoy your moonshine responsibly. Wouldn’t want to end up doing anything you might regret. Kind of like Geralt did…
