Beginning next season on ABC is the Amazing Video Game Show Race, a no-holds-barred, reality-based game show that combines elements of the most popular game shows ever. But there’s a twist: Contestants must also be video game players. Combining shows such as Survivor, the Amazing Race, Deal or No Deal, and the Price is Right, The Amazing Video Game Show Race pits individual contestants in a competition that takes them around the world. Clues will be given at specific checkpoints where the contestants will have to play a video game to move on to the next area. These video games will be based on popular TV game shows, past and present. Various consoles and handheld units ranging from Commodore 64s to PSPs will greet the contestants at each checkpoint. The varied games and the game systems will ensure that no player will have a specific advantage. The Amazing Video Game Show Race is open to everyone; however, those that aren’t chosen by ABC will have to pay their own expenses. Online auditions for the game will begin in the New Year. A hundred contestants will be chosen by ABC and will be granted a virtually unlimited expense account, most of which will be used for eating, traveling, accommodations, and bribes. “When we say no-holds-barred we mean it,” says ABC executive Dick Withers. “Sabotage of opponents is heartily encouraged, and that will usually mean paying someone to do it. The winner receives five million dollars, so we expect the competition to be fierce. This is going to make great television,” Withers says will glee. “Some of the video games are simple,” Withers continues. “You complete a level and receive instructions to your next destination. Other video games require more commitment such as the hour-long Deal or No Deal game. We also have some RPGs that will take up to a couple of weeks to complete. Players will have to carefully preserve their stamina, but snooze and you might lose,” laughs Withers. Withers says the Amazing Video Game Show Race will begin in Los Angeles, where he expects more than five-hundred thousand participants. However, he claims the outrageous traveling expenses will seriously reduce that number to a few hundred in the days to come. “But if you think you’ve got what it takes, there’s five million dollars waiting for the winner at the end of the Amazing Video Game Show Race,” Withers taunts. *This article is presented as an exclusive Cheat Code Central feature titled “Are you dumb enough to believe this?” Please check back each Friday for the newest edition. |
