Anthem Is Breaking Some People’s PlayStation 4s

Not content with just being a broken game on its own, in some respects, Anthem is now apparently breaking PlayStation 4s. Some people playing the game on the console have reported the game not only crashing, but also turning off the system. In a few rare reports, the game has apparently even bricked the console.

People experiencing the more critical Anthem problems say this tends to happen when the game crashes. While a common occurrence seems to be the game crashing and sending people to the PS4 Home menu, many reports are coming in about the systems being shut off completely if a person tries to play with others online, leave Anthem , allows the system to enter rest mode while playing, or even just play the game as normal. Worse, when this happens, people need to actually turn the system on manually and allow the PS4 to check the system storage status. In some situations, this issue leads to a bricked console.

EA has since issued a response regarding Anthem bricking and shutting down PS4s. It is asking for crash reports to be filed when the game goes down and for people to report in at its official website with their PSN IDs, PS4 console model, information on when it crashed, if they had to do something special to get the system working again, and if they shared crash reports digitally when they could. Initial responses show it happening on all PS4 models, with over 570 people checking in as of March 5, 2019.

At the moment, the problem seems to be a PS4-exclusive issue. Xbox One owners have not been reporting any issues.
