Apple Reverses Rejection of Kim Jong-Un Video Game

Apple Reverses Rejection of Kim Jong-Un Video Game

Seriously, why is Kim Jong-Un such a huge figure in media these days? It seems like everyone wants to poke North Korea with a stick.

Anyway, a smartphone game called Little Dictator was rejected from the Apple App Store in early February. The rejection notice cited App Store guideline 14.1 “Any App that is defamatory, offensive, mean-spirited, or likely to place the targeted individual or group in harm’s way will be rejected.”

The game is essentially a flappy bird clone. The only difference is that it plays from right to left and the main character is Kim Jon-Un riding a missile through an obstacle course of other missiles.

The developer, Built Games, filed an appeal and following the appeal, the app was allowed back on the store. No reason for the reversal of this decision was given.

After the apparent hacking and internet release of Sony’s The Interview , a comedy about an attempted assassination of Kim Jong-Un, a variety of different Kim Jong-Un related products have been created in an attempt to cash in on the buzz. This has made us ask where we draw the line between purposefully inflammatory material and parody, and unfortunately that line isn’t very clear.
