Sony held a large smartphone-oriented press conference in Japan yesterday, where they announced a number of new developments for the Japanese market. Among these was a reveal that two classic RPG franchises are set to return. Both the wild west RPG Wild Arms and cult classic strategy RPG Arc the Lad will receive new installments on mobile phones in the coming year.
The Wild Arms game will feature all of the main characters from previous games in the series in a new story. Original producer Akifumi Kaneko will be on hand once again to assist with development. All signs point to this being a “gacha” game, but we’ll see. Arc the Lad , on the other hand, seems like it will be a proper RPG. Details are scant on both at this time.
Both games are currently slated to release exclusively in Japan, though that may change. I’m not a big fan of mobile titles, as they tend to strip away meaningful gameplay in favor of in-app purchases. Who knows, though – both of these could be a return to form for their respective series.
Nah, I’ll probably hate them. Check out a teaser trailer below.
