Best of E3 2014 – The Microsoft Press Conference

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

The conference opened up with this game, with Microsoft riding the Call of Duty wave once again. Once again everyone on Xbox platforms will get additional content first. The video showcased an amazing looking sequence involving some sort of futuristic drop pod over what appears to be downtown L.A…. nice effect. We get to see a gun with holo sights, a jetpack, a mech suit, a walking quadrepedal tank that looks like Metal Gear and more. What’s very interesting is the U.I. There is no H.U.D. in this game, all your readouts are shown on the gun itself and through other pseudo augmented reality functions. The characters fought against a swarm of drones, cloaked enemy soldiers and robots. We also got to see a brand new sight that highlights enemy targets in red to let you see exactly where to shoot. Oh yeah, and the main character loses his arm in the intro… so can you say ROBOT ARM!?

Forza Horizon 2

In addition to a brand new track, the Nürburgring, which is coming to Forza 5 , Forza Horizon 2 was announced. Your Forza 5 driveatar will be transferrable over to Horizon 2 . The game will be a fully open world and will launch on September 30th. Evolve Combination FPS, RTS, boss encounter, craziness by the makers of Left 4 Dead ? I’m in there! It’s classed based allowing you to choose between assault, trapper, medic, or support, or you can always play as the huge boss monster. Yes, players actually play as the bosses. The beta will be coming first to Xbox platforms.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

The first exclusively next-gen Assassin’s Creed , Unity takes place in 18th century France. You will be able to form your own brotherhood of Assassins to play together in the single-player campaign. You can team up to perform cooperative assassinations, allowing you to take down multiple targets at once or create distractions for your other assassin friends. The trailer showed 4 players going through a campaign at once. There’s also sword fighting, strategic bombing, and a lot of killing wealthy noblemen. It was really cathartic to see the group of assassin’s throw a noble to rioting countrymen and seeing the people decapitate the noble and put their head on a stake. We are the 99%!

Dragon Age Inquisition

Just a trailer here but hot damn was it hype! Watching you take down dragons, summon up forbidden spells, and ride great beasts is a perfect tease. It’s coming out October 7th, 2014.

Sunset overdrive

This game looks absolutely awesome. The main character was using zip-line parkour and sliding around a warehouse blowing people’s heads off. It has a fantastic cartoony look to it. The plot apparently has to do with a contaminated energy drink turning people into mutants. It’s like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater meets Team Fortress 2 . We are shown a simple mission where you have to get to the other end of a mutant ridden theme park. The character had access to rockets, ice guns, , miniguns and more. He also could run, grind, climb, swing, and do all sorts of other parkour goodness off buildings. Seriously looking to be one heck of an arcade shooter. It comes out October 28th.

Super Ultra Dead Rising Arcade Edition Ex Plus Alpha

It looks like Dead Rising has gotten goofy again. All Dead Rising characters can team up and take down Nazi zombies! You can also get super moves like the Metsu Hadoken! It’s nuts! It makes no sense! It’s awesome! You can power-bomb a zombie shark! POWER-BOMB A ZOMBIE SHARK!!!!

Fable: Legends

It’s old-school Fable action, with one twist: you can be the villain. In multiplayer a villain gets to set creatures on heroes in an RTS style mode. It looks like a lot of fun, especially for strategy heads. The ability to design your own dungeons is really, really cool.

Project Spark

We all know what Project Spark is. A new trailer showed off how many awesome games that you can make. I wasn’t gonna put this on this list until the trailer revealed that Conker from Conker’s Bad Fur Day was coming to the game. That… is way too awesome to pass up.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

It wouldn’t be a Microsoft press conference without Halo . Apparently the new Halo is about a search for Master Chief. Also, in preparation, 343 studios is releasing Halo: The Master Chief Collection . It includes Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4 in one disk, with everything unlocked. You can play every part of Master Chief’s story from start to finish. Halo 2 will be remade just like Halo 1 was. The collection will also include the original Halo 2 multiplayer, as well as 6 remade Halo 2 maps. In addition it will have its own multiplayer that includes every single multiplayer map ever released in every Halo ever! It will also come with Halo: Nightfall , the Halo TV series that has been all the buzz. Also, the Halo 5: Guardians beta will be coming this holiday season.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Lara Croft is Batman now! She is speaking with a therapist about her horrible experiences in the last Tomb Raider . She is addicted to danger now, constantly throwing herself into harm’s way to get a fix. Once again this was just a trailer, but it got a standing ovation!

Indie Games

Inside is some sort of 2D environmental horror. Ori and the Blind Forest is a 2D platformer with an incredible nature themed aesthetic. Aztez is a black and white action game. White Night is a murder mystery. Cuphead is an old-school shooter done in Mickey Mouse style. Fru allows you to use your own body as a platformer. Then, of course, there is Mighty No. 9. Microsoft is really doubling over their indie efforts here.

Phantom Dust

Another trailer that utilizes downtown LA as it’s setting. I dig it. It’s a remake if an old-school Xbox game. We get to see two people, battling in an alternate reality, flinging energy blasts and swinging laser swords. I’m hopeful.

Crackdown

Yep, the super cop simulator is coming back, with a brand new cartoony look! It’s going to be an open world action game where teams of gamers will gang up to take down heavily defended bosses. It looks absolutely phenomenal, with smart rockets, miniguns at the top of towers, neon motorcycles, and more. It was mostly a trailer but hey, the very announcement of a new Crackdown was awesome enough.
