Call Of Duty Sales Slow Down

Call Of Duty Sales Slow Down

None

Activision is known for releasing new Call of Duty games every year, and every time they do, the games sell like hotcakes. However, it looks like fans have finally started to become oversaturated with Call of Duty.

Sales of the Call of Duty franchise are starting to show signs of slowing. While Modern Warfare 3 had a stronger launch than Black Ops, the previous Call of Duty title, sales of Modern Warfare are actually lagging behind sales of Black Ops by about 4.2 percent according to analysts at Macquarie Equities. Not only that, but the March sales of Modern Warfare 3 were less than half the amount that Black Ops sold in March of last year.

Many analysts attribute this to a shift in the casual gaming mindset. Casual gamers are no longer buying games long after their release date, as they have downloadable titles and extra functions like media streaming to keep them occupied. In addition, you can only sell so many titles in a franchise to a casual gamer before they start questioning the title’s worth.

Famed analyst and host of Pach Attack Michael Pachter says that software sales are becoming more reliant on new releases in general. Part of this may be due to the draw of online play. Since many games now focus strongly on their online component, purchasing a game long after its release when the online buzz has died down becomes less appealing.
