Capcom Reveals Requirements For a Game to Have a Sequel

Ever wonder how well a game has to sell before a publisher considers giving it a sequel? Well Capcom was recently happy to provide that info. In an interview with Famitsu, Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono says that any Capcom game that doesn’t sell at least two million copies will not get a sequel. Even if Capcom had already planned a sequel, the brakes will be put on the project as soon as the sales numbers get in. “All that means is that we weren’t capable enough,” Ono said. “And all we can do after that is to reflect on the experience, take what we can learn from it, and try to apply those lessons on some other title.”

Based on these numbers, Ono says that fans probably won’t be seeing a new Darkstalkers game any time soon, as Darkstalkers Resurrection didn’t quite make the cut. Other Capcom games that haven’t met this mark include DmC: Devil May Cry, Dead Rising 3, and Dragon’s Dogma so… don’t hold your breath for them either.
