First and foremost, I should probably be wishing you an early Happy SWAPtober; Activision’s new and improved version of what was once colloquially referred to as “October.” Not much will be lost in the transition, though, as the two names sort of rhyme.
The change seems more appropriate, as we, the gamers, rapidly approach SWAPtober 13 th , the official release of Skylanders: Swap Force .
To celebrate, Activision is kicking off SWAPtober with a sweepstakes run from October 1-31 via the official Skylanders Twitter channel (@SkylandersGames.) To enter, current and future Portal Masters need only visit Skylanders.com where they can mix and match their favorite Swap Force characters to create over 250 different combinations. Then they must tweet their combination, alongside a suggested catch phrase (such as, say, ‘Swapping; it’s not just for wives) with the hashtags #SWAPtober and #Skylander for a chance to win one of the coveted Starter Packs. There will be one winner a day announced throughout the month; the month that is SWAPtober.
And what would SWAPtober be without SWAPtoberfest? On SWAPtober 10 th , Activision will be partnering with Toys “R” Us to bring Skylanders to life in Times Square. Attendees will be among the first to play the new game, enjoy various Skylanders-related events, take pictures with Skylanders costumed characters (do not mix and match due to human limitations) and, of course, be given even more chances to win Swap Force Starter Packs. Neat!
Skylanders: Swap Force was recently named as one of the 2013 Toys”R”Us’ “Fabulous 15” on the Toys”R”Us’ Holiday Hot Toy List. The game will be available to own in North America on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS on October 13; in Australia on October 16; and in Europe on October 18. It also will be available day-and-date with the launch of Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
