Crytek Closing Multiple Studios

Crytek Closing Multiple Studios

I hate reporting on news like this. We have word that Cryek, developer of titles like open-world adventure Far Cry and the cutting-edge Crysis, has shuttered several of its studios all over the world.

The studios closed include Crytek’s Budapest, Seoul, Sofia, Shanghai, and Istanbul branches. The news comes after reports that Crytek has been struggling to pay its employees for the last several months. A source via Eurogamer revealed that employees received their salaries for October only last week, and that November salaries are to be paid this week. It’s no wonder many of them have reportedly been seeking employment elsewhere, even in light of the company’s apparent efforts to help them transition to other positions.

Crytek will henceforth focus on utilizing and licensing its proprietary CryEngine. What this means for the industry and for their own projects remains to be seen. My heart goes out to the employees displaced by these closures.
