Darksiders Director Explains Possibility For Series’ Future

Darksiders Director Explains Possibility For Series’ Future

The closure of THQ signaled a premature end to the Darksiders franchise, but in a recent interview with IGN, creative director Joe Madureira—who headed up the two games we’ve seen already—revealed a few options for the two remaining horsemen.

Madureira explained that the studio was originally planning a four-player game, giving players access to all horsemen simultaneously. He added that the option was a possibility, and that he wished they could have answered fan wishes to play as Pestilence and Famine.

Evidently, the option of having “the Horsemen attacking Hell to challenge Lucifer” was also considered. Madureira also said that “there was also an idea to do a crazy ‘western’ type story, where the Horsemen are mortals after the rebirth of Mankind, sort of an alternate future,” but that the idea was shot down.

The Darksiders IP has since been purchased by developer Nordic Games, who has yet to comment on their plans for the name. However, if Madureira’s ambitions are any indication, we may be seeing the much needed final acts of the Four Horsemen soon enough.
